How to see SQLs for a database session ?
I am on Oracle 8.1.7 in AIX.
I can see all the session details in v$session , also I can look at the SQLs being executed on the server in v$sqlarea and v$sqltext.
If I want to see, for a given database session, what are the SQLs those are run ? how can I do that ?
Can I do that or not ???
Please guide .

How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012
How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012.
I BACKED UP a SQL Server 2008 database from work, which runs the enterprise version of 2008, and I tried to RESTORE it to my new 64-Bit home PC which is running the new SQL Server Express 2012 64-Bit (Advanced Edition).
But if fails. I get the following message text.
Can anyone help me please. I thought restoring a 2008 database to the later version 2012 would be possible.
Here is the error message. Thanks.
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Restore of database failed. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.RelationalEngineTasks)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The database was backed up on a server running version 8.00.2039. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 11.00.3128. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a
backup that is compatible with this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The database was backed up on a server running version 8.00.2039. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 11.00.3128. Either restore the database on a server that supports the

Are you sure your database is SQL server 2008 from error message it seems your SQL server version is 2000.I guess you have multiple versions of SQL server.
AFAIK you cannot restore backup of SQL server 2000 to 2012 directly .Restore it first to SQL 2008/2008R2 or 2005 then take backup again of new database created and then you would be able to restore it on 2012.Its kind of intermediate way
Also make sure your DB size is less than 10 G as max DB size supported by Express edition is 10 G and if your DB size is more than 10 G restore will fail.
You are also trying to restore enterprise DB backup on express edition so you will loose enterprise features on express edition

ShantHi,
You need to a script and run it on os level. Here is an example:-
emcli relocate_targets -src_agent=agentmachine1.domain:3872
-dest_agent=agentmachine2.domain:3872 -target_name=RACDB
-target_type=oracle_database -copy_from_src -force=yes

Identifying the sql for non persistant session
We have a number of queries which are being directed to our Oracle 10.2.0.5 database.
I am being informed that there is something wrong with these queries and I need to view the SQL for these queries to investigate.
The problem I have is that the sequence of events is as follows :
1. Connection is made to the database.
2. Query is run and completes in less than 1 second.
3. Database session is disconnected.
Normally to investigate this I would connect to the session in question and interrogate the SQL.
However, because steps 1-3 complete in a split second I am unable to do this.
Is there any way that I can capture this SQL for investigation?
Thank you in advance.user6502667 wrote:

How to set SQL trace in OCI session ?
Hello,
In a SQL*Plus session, I can use the SQL statement "alter session set sql_trace=true;" to set SQL trace in that session only. I assume I could execute the same SQL statement from C code in an OCI client and achieve the same goal.
However, if I cannot change the code of this OCI client, is there a way to set SQL trace for that single session alone, without changing the C code? Say, through an environment variable, configuration file, etc.?
Thanks.I am not aware of a way to selectively enable the server-side tracing without modifying the client code.
There is client tracing available by setting the environment variable EVENT_10842 as follows:
"server=<>;user=<>;stmt=<>;level=<>;interval=<>"
e.g.
setenv EVENT_10842 "server=inst1,inst2;user=scott,system;stmt=all;level=15"
Where:
"server" is a comma separated list or "all"
"user" is a comma separated list or "all"
"stmt" can be INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE,SELECT or "all"
The following levels are supported:
1 - Trace all server attach and server detach calls for servers listed in "server" attribute of the environment variable.
2 - Trace all session begin, logon, session end, logoff calls for the users listed in "user" attribute of the environment variable.
3 - Trace all prepare, execute, fetch calls for the specified statement types listed in "stmt" attribute of environment variable.
4 - Trace all Bind, Define, Describe calls.
5 - Trace all OCI LOB calls
7 - Get statistical info on all connection pooling /connection related calls
8 - Get statistical info on all session info
9 - Get statistical info on all handle info
10 - Get statistical info on time taken in execute and fetch calls
11 - Get statistical info on transaction related calls
15 - Trace all calls with statistical info. -

How to enable autoconfig for Oracle database 11g?
Hi,
I have a Oracle 11g database installed using runInstaller, and now I want to enable autoconfig feature in this database.
Is it possible to do that?
Please suggest me..
Thanks,
PrasadI do not believe you can run autoconfig for database server. Oracle apps database are configured with some specific table which are used by these adcfg pre clone scripts to store some information but you do will nto find these tables in normal databases. This is the reason I believe you cannot run autoconig on normal databases.
You might be able to do something similar to autoconfig if you show some creativity by tweaking the scripts and creating the tables but why to go this difficult route. You can instead create and automate script for duplicating database using RMAN.

How to implement optemistic locking in pl/sql for oracle database
i have search the net to find example of how i can do the optimistic locking in pl/sql, all the resources i found were old , for example "Optimistic Locking with Concurrence in Oracle.
As " by Graham Thornton Snr. Database Architect / Oracle DBA in 2001, but at the end he said that the approach will not work fine if the update being made is a relative update, this apprach includes:-
1.add a timestamp column to an exsiting table.
2.add a preinsert trigger on the table to set the timestamp.
3.add a preupdate trigger to comapre the old time stamp with the new one.
So where i can find updated resources about this issue.
Edited by: 812643 on 17-Nov-2010 12:39totally plagiarized from expert oracle database architecture 9i, 10g, 11g by Tom Kyte pg201
one popular implementation of optimistic locking is to keep the old and new values in the application and upon updating the data use and update like this
update table
set column1 =: new_column1, column2 = : new_column2, ...
where primary_key = :primary_key
and decode( column1, :old_column1, 1 ) = 1
and decode( column2, :old_column2, 1 ) = 1
another implementation
optimistic locking using a version column
add a single column to each database table you wish to protect from lost updates. this column is generally either a number or date/timestamp column
It is typically maintened via a row trigger on the table, which is responsible for incrementing the number column or updating the date/timestamp column
every time a row is modified.
another one on page 204
optimistic locking usin a checksum
similiar to the version column implementation but it uses the base data itself to compute a virtual version column.
the ones suggested where owa_opt_lock.checksum, dbms_obfuscation_toolkit.md5, dbms_crypto.hash, ora_hashEdited by: pollywog on Nov 17, 2010 3:48 PM
might be a good book for you to look into getting it has a whole chapter on locking and latching.

Edited by: user589812 on Jan 4, 2009 8:17 AMJim,
Before starting the database A, did you set ORACLE_SID=A from command line? You can run as many instances you want from single server provided you enough memory, processing power. Also try starting your instances usign window services and check and post some lines from alert.log for database A.

Running sprepsql.sql to get full sql and explain plan from hash value...
SQL comes back with bind variables :1, :2, :3 etc.
How can I find out what the values are for the bind variables so i can plug them in and run them in test db?
Thanks for all your help.I don't have a trace file...
I need to know what the values are and if there is anyway to see them from the output of the sprepsql...
currently looks like:
select
r.status,
NVL(r.required_date, to_date('12/31/3999', 'MM/DD/YYYY')),
r.calc_qty,
r.issued_qty,
r.workorder_type,
r.workorder_base_id,
r.workorder_lot_id,
r.workorder_split_id,
r.workorder_sub_id,
r.operation_seq_no,
r.piece_no,
r.warehouse_id,
0,
wbs_code
from
REQUIREMENT r
where r.part_id = *:1*
and r.workorder_type = 'W'
and r.calc_qty > r.issued_qty
and r.subord_wo_sub_id is null
AND STATUS IN ('R', 'S','U','H','F')
AND WAREHOUSE_ID = *:2*

How to view SQL for a materialized view in SQL Developer (Oracle 11g R2)
Good Morning,
I am new to SQL Developer 3.1.07 and just installed it on a Windows 7 PC yesterday.
There's a materialized view for which I need to view (and eventually update) the SQL. The mat'lized view is in another schema, but my Oracle user does have access to the schema and to this particular mat'lized view. My user also has SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, DEBUG, and ALTER permissions. When I select (click on) the matl'ized view in the object tree on the left, a multi-tab window opens with information in the Columns, Indexes, Grants, Dependencies and Details tabs, but the SQL pane is blank. I don't know if there's some other GRANT that I need in Oracle, or if there's something else I need to do in SQL Developer to see the matl'ized view SQL.
Thanks
Bob Gardner

I'm not sure what privileges you might need besides the one you listed except RESOURCE on the MV, or maybe CREATE ANY MATERIALIZED VIEW.
Can you use DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL to get the data you want (may/may not work due to privileges)? -
How to see filename for Mavericks Calendar Open File alert?
How can you see the name / path of the file to be opened for a Mavericks Calendar Open File alert from the Calendar UI?
Before Mavericks, the file's name would be displayed in the item itself like this:
Now all I see is something more like this:
So I can longer see or verify exactly which file (if any) will be opened. The external image URL in my previous post isn't displaying, so here's a copy of the old iCal Open File image:

How to See logs for custom programs from without the logviewer in NWA
Hello Experts,
The JavaAS developers want to see the logs for their custom programs from without the logviewer in NWA.
Do you have any experience or know of any reference materials to instruct them on where to write their logs, and how to configure NWA to see them?
Thanks
Jibin.Hello Jibin,
Your developers should familiarize themselves with the Logging Framework of the J2EE Engine.
Here is the guide:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/a2/15ab41d60bcb46e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
If they use the Logging Framework you would be able to access the logs through NWA.
