How to "see" trough a web camera?

Hi people, I'm new to JMF, but I have good experience programming in java. Now I would like to have an web camera connected to my pc via usb, and an java application that has simple preview of what the camera can see. The question is: how do I make such an application ?

Here's example code I posted a while ago Link

  • How can I get my web cam to work in Adobe Connect ?

This is actually an end user's question that I am having trouble answering to...
We use Adobe Connect to give online language classes, the end user is one of the students.
I cannot find the right Support answer to give him.
    Problem:
My camera does not work when I connect to Adobe's rooms but camera works fine with other software.
Even though I suspected my old camera was working fine, yesterday I went ahead and bought a new camera.
I thought perhaps my webcam software may have been a problem, so I bought a different type camera with different software.
Even after removing all the old software, same result:
I surmised the problem might be caused by my firewall and security software, so once I tried changing the permissions for Adobe, and my Webcam, but that didn’t work.
Another time, I restarted my computer right before class and then turned off my firewall completely so there would be no interference but to no avail. I’m totally perplexed.
Isn’t there anyone else experiencing a similar problem?   Has anyone else found a solution?
I run Windows Vista with McAfee Internet Security Software.  I always reboot the computer before class and open no other programs other than Google Chrome.
I now have a brand new Microsoft LifeCam Cinema Camera with LifeCam 3.5 Webcam Software.
I test my camera before going online.  It always works fine.   Then I shut down the camera program and login into class.
When I “connect webcam” in the room, the light on my camera comes on (suggesting that it is ON), but only a black image is transmitted to the room.

Check to see if you have Google Voice installed. If so, remove it and see
if your problem vanishes. If not Google Voice, check to see if you have
any other communications software which interacts with your cam and
disable it. This was the problem I had with a similar problem on a Mac.

Thanks a lot Heyward for the swift reply !
I sent the advice out to the end user, but unfortunately this wasn't the
    solution.
    His reply is below :-
The default resolution of my new camera is already set at 640x360, but I
went ahead and tried several lower resolutions (e.g. 424x240; 320x240; and
160x120) but none worked in the room - camera still showed up as black
blank screen.  Also, as far as I can tell, I don’t have the option of
    adjusting the frame rate.
I started playing around with my Internet Security Settings to see if they
might be playing a role. So far, all to no avail.
Hmm...quite a tricky one - webcams always are - maybe if he can find a way
to adjust the frame rate (?).
He's going to fiddle about with the settings a bit more and see if
    something does the trick.
If anyone has had a similar problem and found an ingenious solution,
please jot on a note on this thread.

  • I see only one WEB camera

    Hello all
    I have LV 7.1
I installed the two same identical WEB camera.
But in the LV I can see only one WEB camera - the first . The second cemera I don't see in the LV
    Why ?
    Respect
    Iskander

    Hey Iskander,
Check out the following KnowledgeBase called Accessing Multiple USB Cameras That Have the Same Name, and it looks like you have the same issue of having multiple cameras with the same name. The problem lies with your specific USB camera's driver in that it is not giving the cameras a unique camera name. There are a couple of solutions in the KB.
Also, since you are using the NI-IMAQ for USB Cameras driver, you will also want to check out some of the Known Issues that are now documented on the download page for the driver. First, this driver only supports acquiring from one USB camera at a single time, so you might want to consider using Firewire or GigE cameras. Second if you are considering using 2 USB cameras, you might be thinking that you can just acquire from one, close its session, then acquire from the other, and then go back and forth by acquiring and closing the sessions each time. But then another issue you will run into, if you do this in your program, is the second known issue of the IMAQ for USB Cameras driver, - Opening and closing a camera session causes a small memory leak, so it is not recommended to do this repeatedly.

  • How do i use my web cam, where do i go to, to get started

Can't figure out where to go to be able to use my web cam. Its not in my devices and printers area.

Firstly, uninstall the current version of Cyberlink Youcam and re-install it.
To Uninstall: Click Start >> type Programs and Features in search and select it from the list >> In there, select Cyberlink Youcam and uninstall it.
Once done, try using webcam with Skype or any other messenger you may have, or else re-install Youcam.
If the above does not work, do a System Restore to a previous working date when the webcam worked.
System Restore: Click Start >> type System Restore in search and select it any perform on-screen instructions to restore the notebook to a previous working date.
If none of the above work, open Device Manager, check if you have 'HP Webcam' listed under Imaging Devices category.
You would find the Product Number on the sticker in the battery compartment, will be similar to XT594PA#ABA.

  • How to disable USB, Bluetooth, Web Camera in iMac

    Hi
Hi we have 4 Apple iMac 21.5” Quad-Core i5 2.5GHz/4GB/500GB/Radeon HD 6750M 512MB. We have upgraded the OS to Mountain Lion. For company security purpose we want to disable USB, Bluetooth, Web Camera. Please help us understand if this can be done or not ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Soum

    Hello, soum_mohanty.
There's no need to post again in the iSight (or any other) forum.  Hosts will likely delete multiples anyway.  I will just give you my thoughts here.
Use Linc's answer above:  (Regards, Linc)
From Hardening Tips - National Security Agency:
... The best way to disable an integrated iSight camera is to have an Apple-certified technician remove it. ...
Contact your Apple-Authorized Service Provider and discuss your needs.  If anyone can safely disable the cameras in a way that meets your security requirements without damaging your Macs, it will be an AASP.
If your AASP cannot do what you need with your current Macs, my only remaining suggestion is that you consider trading them for machines that have no inbuilt camera.  Mac minis or Mac Pros may meet your needs.

  • How can I attach a web cam to my iPad

My wife has the first iPad and she is jealous of my iPad2 which has a built in web cam. Is there a way that I can hook up a web cam to her iPad?

That was announced back in the summer of 2010 but apparently never shipped. PhotoFast, the company that was purported to release it, makes no mention of the product on their web site. So I think we can consider this vaporware.
There are no web cams for the iPad actually available that I know of.

  • How to see what "as shot" camera wb was for jpgs?

How do you see in Lightroom (2.7) exactly what the in camera white balance setting was for images shot as jpgs?
For example, I shot some jpgs using the camera's "Flourescent" setting, and some other jpgs using a numerical Kelvin value.  All the jpgs were shot at the same event, and are imported into the same LR catalog.  Now, I'd like to compare back and forth which in camera white balance setting worked better for me, but all LR reports on white balance is "as shot."  That's not very helpful.
I'd like to learn where, how, or if Lightroom reports the in camera white balance settings in metadata.  I can see exposure details, like shutter speed, aperture, ISO setting, etc.  Is it possible to also see the white balance setting?

Thanks for the responses so far.
It sounds like Lightroom CANNOT read the White Balance value of the camera's EXIF data.  It sounds like I'm looking for something in the Lightroom program that isn't there.  Is this correct?
The idea was for me to not have open up another program when I'm browsing through thousands of jpegs in LR just to be able to read what the white balance setting was.  It is very disruptive to the workflow to have to leave the LR catalog every time the question comes up.
I was hoping that LR would report what the white balance was in the camera (Canon 1DM4) just like LR reports what the camera's ISO setting was.  Since LR cannot change the ISO of a jpeg after the fact, but can still read ISO, it would seem logical that LR could report what the camera's WB was also, even though LR cannot change it.
I just want to make SURE that I haven't overlooked a box or setting in LR that would enable me to see the WB EXIF data.
    Thanks!

  • How to see output of basler camera wirelessly on pc/laptop?

    Hello,
I have basler aca 2000-50 gc camera. It is installed at a remote position. I want to see its output on pc through wireless connection. Please suggest me how to procced .
    Thanks in advace.

I think you will need to use NI Vision and the NI-IMAQdx driver. If you have these and MAX installed, you should be able to see/find the camera under Devices and Interfaces >> NI-IMAQdx Devices. Once you have it there, you can write a LabVIEW application that acquires/displays the data from the camera.
Here are some articles that discuss how to do it:
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5651/en/ (First page)
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/5750/en/ (Second page)
Note that it's a GigE (gigabit ethernet) camera so you may not get the full resolution/framerate over a wireless connection.
