How to separate one Argument to characters

Question

I can�t find a solution to distinguish the characters in one parameter (args[0])
i.e. : the user has entered this line 1,2,3 which all are in one argument (args[0]). how can I separate these three numbers and add them to an array. and finally add them together.
I will appriciate if anybody answer my question
