In the past flex 3 version, there is an attribute call <flexlib:MDICanvas backgroundImage="@Embed(source='/imgFolder/imgFile.png')/>
to set it. However it has problem in Flex 4 because of 'halo' and 'spark' theme library changed.

You can setStyleName property for chnaging the external css dynamically by using the setStyle() method ...

You can change the external css by using the styleaName property with setStyle method..the line in blue..where blendButtonSkinOther is another css class..

Got maybe a solution for you, I have just tested it.
So, the idea is to use intermediate variables. Imagine Var1 and Var2 variables that you refresh with your more or less complicated queries. Then what you can do is to refresh your final variable Var3 with a query using your intermediate variables. Here is an example for Oracle:
select #Var1+#Var2 from dual
This way you can make a chain of dependent variables: Var3 is using Var2 and Var2 is using Var1.

Here is the code of the Button in the skin class of spark title window.

So first change the default height and width from 15 to 32. Then in the Button Skin class i.e. spark.skins.spark.TitleWindowCloseButtonSkin change paths to modify the cross symbol.

I need to set the size of my application programmatically. In Flex 3, I did it this way:
mx.core.Application.application.width = theWidth; (equivalent for height).
I can not figure out how to do this with Flex 4. Searched high and low.

I have a requirement to Default the DFF field value as No on Iprocurement Requistion Headers Page.
I followed the below steps to enable the field. Please help me where can we set the initial value as NO.
Please help me how to set the default value as No and we would aslo want to give flexibility to the user to change it to Yes if they want to.

Add DFF to iProcurement Requisition header in the same way. Define a DFF again:
1. Create a new Value Set.
2. Define Values for the value set created in step 1.
3. Add Value Set to the Flex Field Segment in Application: Purchasing and Title: ReqExpress Headers.
4. Freeze and Compile the FlexField definition.
The steps to enable DFF in IP HTML pages are as follows:
1. Enable profile Personalize Self-Service Defn to yes at the user level
2. Log in to iProcurement
3. Go to Checkout: Requisition Information page
4. Click Personalize Page at the top of the page
5. Look for Flex: (ReqHeaderDFF)
6. Click Edit (Pencil)
7. Change Rendered from false to true8. Click Apply
9. Click Return to Application

Thanks for your quick reply. I did a different solution just by adding value set with Pop List and attached to DFF segment. The value set that I created is for single value saying Yes. So on the page by default it will display NULL. If user want to select a value then they will select Yes from the pop list. On that same region I created TIP and left a note.
I will follow the approach that you mentioned, for my future extensions. Thank you for your help again.

How to display reply in flex data grid?

Frompast couple of months i am working on a Flex Application which used MySQL databse and PHP as server side language. In this application user can login and they can post their comments which will be displayed in a datagrid. This will have a reply button where other users can send their reply. My problem is how i will be displying the reply of a msg in a datagrid. Here is the screenshot of my datagrid
I thought of 2 options:
1. Displaying the reply in the datagrid and disaply in the same row: i don know how we can do this.
2. Store all the replies in data base and display in toher panel though a button. From flex side it is easy to do but i don know how i can store them in database.
Please let me know if you have any ideas/tutorials on this

This is only in theory, haven't actually checked it but I think it could work
If each one of those posts is done by an itemrender, your renderer can have 2 states stateone and statetwo for example.
The reply state (statetwo) being bigger and containing space for the reply post.
Store your replies in the database and have another boolean column ( Tinyint(1) or something) in your MySql db indicating that a particular post has a reply . When you pull your data from the database and put in in an arraycollection check this column for each post and use it to set the state of the itemrenderer.
That way posts with no reply with be state one, and posts with replies will be state 2 and you can populate the reply field with data from the object in your arraycollection.
I suppose it all does depend on how you get your data from MySQL and how you store it in Flex but I think states is a way you could accomplish things like this.

By Using XML.ignoreWhitespace = false; I am able to Store/Carry/Save L&T white spaces in XML and i can retrive values with whitespaces... It is in case of loading from Java<DB> to Flex. But the actual problem is with xmlObject.toString()/toXMLString() is not able to carry whitespace, while it should carry as parameter to Java Servlet..so that it can be get using request.getParameter() [..then it is serializing/deserializing] So, how i can preserve the L&T whiteSpaces on XML.toString()/toXMLString() method. want to use the proxy service of BlazeDS, for accessing the web

I'm not sure what you mean by referring to forms personalization. If your requirement is simply to be able to enter an accounting KFF via a DFF then you need to attach a value set of type 'Special' to your DFF segment. These are much trickier to get right than other value set types so I would suggest some careful reading of the flexug and also taking a look at some of the seeded value sets of this type.
