How to set charging thresholds on Ubuntu - IdeaPad

I prefer Linux over Windows for most of my work. But the problem is that it's hard to live without conservation mode since my G50-70 is always plugged in to the AC.
I've read about TLP, but it does not seem to support IdeaPads.

iTunes does not support any flavor of Linux. It cannot be installed.

  • How to set alert threshold and email alerts?

    Hi!
I have configured Solution manager 3.2 to monitor
    our R/3 systems.
I want to be able to set the threshold for  tablespace
usage and be able to send an email if the usage
of the tablespace is 80% full.
Could anybody tell how to implement it?
    Thanks!

    Hi Christy:
There are different approaches to configure alerts, if you are using Solution Manager; I think you can benefit if you choose SolMan and the Central System (CEN) to handle all the monitoring and email alerting.
If this is the case, you will need to install the CCMS Agents on every satellite system in order to trigger remote alerts.
Let me know what is your idea and I can follow with you with the required steps.

  • EM 10g Release 3 Grid - how to set up thresholds/notifications

    Hello --
We have installed EM 10g Release Grid control and I would like to set up all the necessary thresholds and notifications. I would like to set those up for one instance only. So I went to Preferences --> Notification Rules and set up (what I thought) notifications for this one database. However, I keep getting alerts for ALL databases. Is there a way to set this up just for one?
Also, on the home page in the Related Links section I see the following links related to metrics:
    Metric Collection Errors
    All Metrics
    Metric and Policy Settings
    Metric Baselines
    User-defined metrics
What are Metric Baselines? How do set those up? Are these also "global" - if I modify those it will affect all of the databases? Is there a quide (like a miniumum) on thresholds - how do you decide on the values? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it is easy to be confused. Maybe this will help -
    1) Notification Rules are set to provide you notification when a metric and policy setting is in warning, critical or clear status - (side note here is that clear is clear for warning and clear for critical- so if you set notification to page on clear you can get warning clear and critical clear pages)
    2) Metric and Policy Settings establish warning and critical thresholds - you dont have to have notifications on them.
    3) Baselines can be taken on the live database to establish normal operating thresholds. I am a little weak in the Baseline Space.

  • How to set threshold level JPG images

Please I need help with setting the right threshold value for my images. I am new with Photoshop. I need to interpret images consisting of sand oil and water in a glass medium. I need to calculate in pixels the volume of each phase (oil and water) with time. I converted the image to threshold and by default the setting is 128 level. This gives a rather high pixel value for the black background. adjust to other levels like 70 makes the white image more. Does some know how I can determine the correct threshold level to reflect that in the original image?
Also how can set the threshold value to be the same for all the files (example 600 jpg files).
    Thanks a lot

Also how can set the threshold value to be the same for all the files (example 600 jpg files).
Create an action and use batch processing or import your images as a sequence and treat it as a video in the timeline. The rest is unclear. For all intents and purposes setting a threshold is completely arbitrary and factors like the color of the sand or whatever can influence it since e.g. red sand will naturally accentuate the red channel more than green and blue. Come to think of it, your methodology is rather unscientific in the first place, but providing one of your images as a sample reference might help people to be able to advise...

  • TPY: How to set maximum charging limit?

In my Win 7 X220 and Win 8 Yoga11s, both had Lenovo programs (Power Manager and Lenovo Energy Management respectively) that allowed me to maximize battery health by setting a charging threshold.
In the TPY, is there any Lenovo programs that does that too?

Lenovo removed the program in Windows 8.1. The battery is set to fully charge under all condition.

I've looked through all the settings and can't find that option anymore. I know it is working because I'm plugged in and I see 98% and it's not going up. I often move my computer around and unplog and plug a lot so I want to set that threshold to 90%.

  • [somewhat solved] Charging thresholds with tp_smapi issue

I installed the latest Arch linux on my Thinkpad Edge e420 without any issues (so Ubuntu did teach me something the last ~5 years) and was following the tp_smapi wiki how-to on changing the battery charging thresholds when I found that when I set either one (either start or stop), it would change the other to being one less or one more:
    [root@arch josh]# echo 80 > /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/stop_charge_thresh
    [root@arch josh]# cat /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/stop_charge_thresh
    80
    [root@arch josh]# cat /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/start_charge_thresh
    81
    [root@arch josh]# echo 40 > /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/start_charge_thresh
    [root@arch josh]# cat /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/start_charge_thresh
    40
    [root@arch josh]# cat /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/stop_charge_thresh
    39
And this happens for whatever number I chose for `start_charge_thresh` or `stop_charge_thresh`. Running `lsmod`, I see that `tp_smapi` and `thinkpad_ec` are both installed and running,
    josh@arch~ # lsmod
    tp_smapi 20660 0
    thinkpad_ec 4253 1 tp_smapi
Any suggestions? Or needed extra information?

Despite having the start/stop_charging_threshold set as 40/39 as in the above example, my battery charges to 80% and then stops (I've done this three separate times, leaving it plugged in with enough time to charge it 100%, and each time it stopped at 80). Another one of those Linux quirks, I guess.

  • Can no longer change charging thresholds on t510 with latest update

I just updated to the latest version of lenovo settings dependency package - 1.2.1.5. Afterwards, I was unable to set my charging thresholds via the registry as per the existing thread. The values in the registry stay, but restarting the computer does not make the battery not charge past the threshold.
This is what Lenovo Settings shows:
And this is what I changed the Registry to:

it is simply displayed as "VGA Display"
That is how your Display Identified itself to Mac OS X. If the display only provides that as a name, and does not provide its full capabilities, Mac OS X cannot determine its true capabilities and you get an abbreviated set of resolutions to avoid damaging your display.
As you discovered, you can use a cheater program like SwitchResX.
There is nothing wrong with your Mac. That is the way it was designed.
There is nothing wrong with these Forums, either. They have always been User-to-User forums, and Apple never posts here. • T520: Slice battery charging thresholds stuck

I bought a T520 (4240) a few months ago and, like most people around here had the same issues with pulsing fans and, on applying BIOS 1.28, CPU throttling issues. I'm not sure if the latter one is fixed properly yet, but I also have a problem with the battery charging thresholds that has me stumped.
I have the 55++ and 27++ 9-cell main and "slice" batteries. For a while I let them charge up to 100% whenever connected to AC, but then I read that a 100% charge level is not recommended for day-to-day operation.
I use Fedora 15 Linux 99.9% of the time on my T520. I wanted to set the battery charge thresholds to avoid the 100% charge level, but the "tp_smapi" Linux driver doesn't work for the T520 (yet). I read somewhere that if I were to set the charge thresholds with the Lenovo Power Manager in Windows 7, that they would work in Linux as long as the laptop was not completely powered down when switching from Windows to Linux (i.e., use a warm boot). Well, it worked. In fact it worked really well: I could even power down and remove the batteries and something, somewhere would still remember that I wanted to start charging the slice battery when it dropped below 35% and stop charging it at 80%, even when running Fedora 15.
Having used the machine for a few weeks, I found that I used it on battery power a lot and liked to "top up" the batteries over night. The 35/80 thresholds didn't really suit my working pattern. So, back in the Power Manageer in Windows, I changed the battery thresholds from 35/80 to 50/88 for both batteries (55++ and 27++). On booting back to Linux, I noted that the main battery would respect the new levels, but he slice battery was still stuck on 35/80. Back in Windows, I tried changing the levels in different ways, but the slice battery refused to charge to more than 80%, even under Windows, no matter what I did. It seems that my first change from the default (is it 96/100?) to 35/80 has gotten stuck somewhere and I cannot change it again.
I even notice in the Power Manager that the slice battery constantly toggles between charging and not charging when under AC power if I set the threshold to 85/90. Because the 80% level where the battery is stuck is lower than 85% (my new "start" threshold), charging kicks in, but it immediately stops again, as it won't go over 80%, then, of course, it starts again and stops again, and so on.
How do I fully reset the charge thresholds on the slice battery so I can exceed 80% charge?

I had kind of given up on this, but thank you KooMaster for your confirmation that I am not alone with this issue. I don't think this is a problem with the Lenovo or Windows software, as this happens to me when running Linux without either of those. My guess is that the problem is in the embedded controller (EC) firmware. It is responsible for charging the batteries and enforcing the charging thresholds (that's why they still work even when the machine is turned off).
It probably makes sense to charge each battery to 80% first, as it likely only takes half of the overall charge time to get to that level (the last 20% taking as long again). That way, we get both batteries to a useful charge level as fast as possible. However, based on your observations, it seems that someone in Lenovo forgot to tell the EC to check that the main battery has reached its upper charge threshold, not that it has reached 100%, before topping the slice battery up to its upper charging threshold.
Can someone in Lenovo please comment on this issue, as I raised it over seven months ago now and I haven't heard a single word from any of you about it? "KooMaster" has confirmed the problem on a different model with different batteries, so it seems highly likely that a quick check of the (shared?) EC firmware code and a patch will resolve this quite quickly.
(I updated my BIOS and EC firmware today and it made no difference to my problem.)

  • How does battery charge work ThinkPad T430s

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s 2356-LRG and was wondering how the charge technology worked. I have searched around and looked in the manual but I couldn't find a good answer.
My questions is that I use the notebook alot on AC power. And often for extended periods of mid to heavy load. I run Linux and have setup ChargeThreshold. It stops charge at 95% and begins again at 45%.
But when I keep the AC power on, and if the battery has 80% it does not move up or down as expected. Because it must drop lower than 45%.
Will the power then go straight to the machine and bypass the battery? Because the Battery-LED on the back is turned off. Or will it go via the battery and produce charge cycles on the battery?
So let's say the battery is bypassed will it then be fine to keep it on AC and active for a period of many days with heavy load but monitor the temp of the battery. I know heat kills it.
I could also buy an 95W power adapter and remove the battery completely from the machine when I have it at my desk for an extended period of time.

Hey there MikalD and welcome to the forums!
What you are experiencing is as per normal. These charge thresholds are determined in your power manager, there is a nifty Knowledgebase Article about this.
First, open up the ThinkVantage Power Manager. Click on the battery tab, and then Battery Maintenance. This will open a window where you will be able to change and set your charging thresholds to your desired preferences.
Additionally, here are links that can give some insight and advice of how to increase the longevity of battery life.

  • Charge threshold w/ utrabay battery and Windows 8

    Hello
One more problem with the missing Power Manager under Windows 8.
The battery charge threshold can be changed in the registry or using the freeware utility in http://thinkutils.wordpress.com/collection/power-manager/
Does anybody know how I can set the charge threshold when using a second battery in my T430s' ultrabay?
I have tried many things with the registry, nothing worked reliably. At the end nothing worked any more and I had to use a restore point...
It would be good if Lenovo would hear to their customers an bring us back the Power Manager functionality!
    Regards
    Patrick

Hey, nobody else has an ultrabay battery and would like to optimize its charge?
After having had almost no problems with my T410s and Windows 7, now I'm beginning to bitterly regret having updated to a T430s with Win 8. Much heavier machine, unreliable WLAN (after the last Lenovo update, it didn't work any more at all...), unreliable BlueTooth, no more Power Manager and so on. Is that what Lenovo and Microsoft understand under "technical improvements"?

  • How do I charge iPod w/ a different computer without losing my iPod library

I usually use the iPod with my G5 at home. Last time I travelled I tried charging the iPod with the USB cable and my laptop. Unfortunately, it decided to use the library of iBook.
I know there is a setting for manually updating, etc. Isn't that option only available when the iPod is plugged into the computer? I would rather do it now while I am at home then on my trip and lose my tracks.
So to sum up, my question is... How do I charge my iPod with a second machine and not lose my iPod library?
Thank you so much in advance!
    Bobby

Since you have a fifth generation iPod and a machine with FireWire ports, you can do this by plugging it in through the FireWire connection; that iPod will charge but not sync through FireWire. Otherwise, set the iPod to update manually when it is hooked up to the main machine, or use these instructions to change the synchronization mode.

    Hi Gerhard,
Sorry for very very late reply.
But I want to know if you are raising PO on supplier A then why you required track of supplier B.
    Now just see,
If you want to pay any extra charges for supplier B then you can make this transaction by using Landed Cost functionality. In that in Broker field you put supplier B . so that supplier B's account also get hitted.
But I want to know why you want to consider tracking of supplier B. Supplier A can purchase material from anywhere. You have to make A/P Invoice on supllier A only.
Plz revert back if it not solves your problem.
