How to set focus in the parent window after a JOptionPane pop up ?

I am not able to set the focus back to a JTextField in the parent window after poping up a JOptionpane.showMessageDialog(). I tried requestfocus(),requestFocusInWindow etc......but not working. The code is given below.
if ((encryptor.encrypt(password)).equals(configuredPasswd)) {
                    validPassword = true;
               } else {
                    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(saveUI,"The password entered is not correct.");
                    saveUI.getPasswdField().setText("");
saveUI.getPasswdField().requestFocus();
Sometimes the focus is coming to the JTextField.Sometimes it appears for a moment and then dissappears.Please give a solution

see if this makes a difference
if((encryptor.encrypt(password)).equals(configuredPasswd))
  validPassword = true;
else
  JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(saveUI,"The password entered is not correct.");
  ActionListener al = new ActionListener(){
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae){
      saveUI.getPasswdField().setText("");
      saveUI.getPasswdField().requestFocusInWindow();}};
  javax.swing.Timer timer = new javax.swing.Timer(100,al);
  timer.setRepeats(false);
  timer.start();
}

  • How to set focus on the title of JTabbedPane

    I have created a JTabbedPane and added three JPanels to it. They are titled, say "Panel 1", "Panel 2" and "Panel 3". And each of them contains buttons and text areas. Since this app is for physically disabled users, it must provide navigation through these three tabs with keyboard operations only (i.e. without mouse clicks).
    When the title "Panel 1" gets focused, users can go to "Panel 2" by the right arrow key. When Panel 2 is brought up, however, the title "Panel 2" does not get focused. Instead the first button inside panel 2 is focused. In order for users to navigate to 'Panel 3" by the arrow key, the title "Panel 2" has to be focused. How do I set focus on the tab title?
    I have tried 'requestFocus()' on Panel 2, but it does not work. Please help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.

    I'd be quite interested to know if this can be doen as well so I thought I'd post this message to move it to the top of the board.
    Thanks.

  • ADF Tree setting focus back to parent node after deletion of child node

    Hi,
    Is there a way to get the focus back to the parent node (or rather any particular node) in a tree?
    I have a use case where we need to get the focus back to the parent node after a child node is deleted.
    Currently the focus is shifted to the next node in the tree, but the need is to get the focus shifted back to the parent node. Also the parent node should be re-invoked to populate to get the latest status after deletion of the child node.
    Any help/pointers?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply Frank.
    I saw the link http://sreevardhanadf.blogspot.in/2012/07/showing-next-row-as-current-row-after.html
    However the issue is since I am using custom created tree using POJO tree item (composite object).
    calling myTree.getWrappedData() doesn't gives me a handle to JUCtrlHierBinding and subsequent access to JUCtrlHierNodeBinding.
    my program gives me data like -
    List<MyTreeItem> treeData = (List<MyTreeItem>)treeModel.getWrappedData();
    because my tree model is build using -
    treeModel = new ChildPropertyTreeModel(items, "children");
    where items is List of <MyTreeItem>
    Hence I am unable to get a handle using -
    List nodeParentList = nodeParent .getKeyPath();
    I am programmatically able to invoke the parent node to get the fresh data, only issue is the focus/selection of that node is not happening
    Is there a way around?
    Thanks

  • How can i refer to the parent window of the window containing an applet ?

    Hi all,
    I m stuck up with something. I have a web page say 'page1' which has a link that opens up a popup window. This popup say 'page2' window has an applet. On clicking particular pins on the applet i need to
    direct page1 to another URL & close the popup window. i hv tried this code.
    URL url = new URL(applet.getCodeBase(), path);
    AppletContext appletcontext = applet.getAppletContext();
    appletcontext.showDocument(url, "content");
    JSObject win = JSObject.getWindow(applet);
    win.eval("alert(\"Do u wnat to close!\");");
    win.eval("window.close()");
    This code opens up another window on click of the pin, & shows an alert before closing the popup window. On using
    appletcontext.showDocument(url, "_parent"); or
    appletcontext.showDocument(url, "_top");
    The window containing applet gets refreshed with the URL but not page1.
    How can i refer so to page1 from the applet.

    You don't show your code for what parent or top are, but in an
    applet, you must stick with relative links. Once you have the
    appletcontext, use a relative path from there:
    In the snippet below, docName is a relative path, i.e. ../up/above
       * Displays the specified document in the Web browser.
       * @param docName String pathname of document to download from Webserver
       * @return void
      private void fetchDocument(String docName) {
         AppletContext ctx = getAppletContext();
         java.net.URL serverURL = getDocumentBase();
         java.net.URL codeURL   = getCodeBase();
         java.net.URL docURL = null;
         try {
            docURL = new java.net.URL(codeURL, docName);
         catch (java.net.MalformedURLException err) {
            System.out.println("unable to compute URL from (" + serverURL + ", " +
                               docName + ")");
         if(this.bDebug)
           System.out.println("Open document: " + docURL.toString());
         ctx.showDocument(docURL);
      }

  • How to set focus on only one window?

    Say, I have a main window with a button inside, and if the user presses on that button, another warning window with an OK button inside will then pop up. Now the question is how can I disallow the user from returning back to the main window unless the OK button on the pop-up window is pressed ?

  • How do I return to the "parent" source after following a link in a page source?

    After following a link in a page source, I would like to be able to switch back to the 'parent' source. The only option I found is to close the source completely and open the page source once again. A "back" option would be useful here...

    Thank you for the fast answer, Tony!
    Apparently you misinterpreted my question (or I was not clear enough describing it) because my question has nothing to do with normal surfing. The back & forward buttons are present and fully functional in my browser.
    With "page source" I meant the information that can be reached by pressing Ctrl+U. Some page sources contain links to e.g. js scripts. When I click on such a link, indeed the source of the script is shown. At that point there is no turning back to the original page source where the link was in...
    My browser:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; nl; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0E)

  • Keep focus in the same window after opening a new window per key-event

    I have an application in which user can press on a specific key, and that opens a new window in a JFrame. User might want open a few of such windows in a row by changing the cursor position and pressing the same letter key. But the problem is that with every new window Java VM transfers the focus to that new window. User is forced either to click to regain focus, or to move the mouse out-and-in the window, in which case the focus returns to it as well, assuming the X11 style of focus by cursor position of course.
    Is there any way to keep the focus with the window on which the cursor is placed?

    In your ActionListener your code should be something like:
    JFrame anotherOne = new JFrame();
    anotherOne.setVisible(true);
    originalFrame.requestFocusInWindow();If you need further help then you need to create a [Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE)|http://sscce.org], that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour.
    Don't forget to use the Code Formatting Tags so the posted code retains its original formatting. That is done by selecting the code and then clicking on the "Code" button above the question input area.

  • How to Direct control to application's window after closing the popup?

    Hi,
    I am using 10.1.3. In my application I am unable to direct control to application's window after closing the popup, if I open any other window at the same time.
    For more info see the below step:-
    -> Open any popup in my application.
    -> Open any new window (lets say Google.com).
    -> Now restore popup on Google window.
    -> Now close popup
              - control goes to Google window but not the parent application window.
    How to direct control to the parent window?
    Can anybody help me regarding this?
    Thanx...Abhijit

    Hi Abhijit,
    You can do this using Javascript alone. Below are the two sample files I created.
    main.html_
    <html>
    <head>
      <title>Testing popup</title>
      <script type="text/javascript">
      function openPopup() {
        window.open("popup.html");
      </script>
    </head>
    <body>
      <a hr_ef="javascript:openPopup()">Open popup</a>
      <input id="something" name="something" type="text" value="something">
    </body>
    </html>
    Note: hr_ef should be href. The code tags are messing with the link.
    popup.html_
    <html>
    <head>
      <title>This is the popup window</title>
      <script type="text/javascript">
      function goToMain() {
        window.opener.something.focus();
      </script>
    </head>
    <body onunload="goToMain()">
      This is the popup window. Close this window to return to main window.
    </body>
    </html>The idea is to call a javascript function in the popup window that tries to focus on an object (eg. InputText) in the main html.
    Although, one point to take note is the naming of html objects by by these ADF UI Components. If you named your form id as "*form1*" and input text id as "*something*", your input text id will end up as "*form1:something*".
    Therefore, you will have to tweak the code above to the following:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function goToMain() {
      window.opener.form1['form1:something'].focus();
    </script>Regards,

  • How to re-show a dialog with the parent window

    I am writing an Menu drivern application:
    -- A JCMDIPane is put in the JFrame.
    -- Multiple JCMDIFrames are added to the JCMDIPane via menu selecting events
    -- Each JCMDIFrame (call it parent) may pop up a Dialog window (child) (Thes dialogs are modal)
    Here is my problem:
    When you switch away from this Java application to other applications (reading mauls, editing word documents, surfing web), of course, the Java program is hiding behind these applications and only left a Icon on your taskbar. The problem is that when switch back from other application to this Java program, However, it only shows the parent window (the JCMDIFrame ) and the child (the dialog) is behind. You have to using Alt_Tab to get the focus on the child and show it.
    My question is:
    Is there any way can we show the Dialog window is on the parent window (as it originally shown)?
    I have tried to overwriting the paint method of JCMDIFrame :
    public void paint(Graphics g)
    super.paint(g);
    if(child != null && child.isShowing())
    child.setVisible(true);
    This works on other applications but not on the Internet Explore (It always show the dialog).
    Anybody can give me a clue?
    Thanks!

    When you pop up a dialog, if you use the constructor:
    Dialog(Frame owner, boolean modal);
    and pass it an instance of the parent frame (and set "modal" to "true"), then it is my understanding that it should always appear in front of the parent - are you sure this is what you are doing?
    Double check by doing myDialog.getOwner() and make sure it's not null.

  • How to get the parent window in sub-child controller class in javafx?

    how to get the parent window in sub-child controller class in javafx?

    You can get the window in which a node is contained with
    Window window = node.getScene().getWindow();Depending when this is invoked, you might want to check the Scene is not null before calling getWindow().
    If the window is a stage that is owned by another window, you can get the "parent" or "owner" window with
    Window owner = null ;
    if (window instanceof Stage) {
      Stage stage = (Stage) window ;
      owner = stage.getOwner();
    }
