How to setup photo structure after switch from Windows?

Hi Colleagues,
Have changed all computers at home from Windows into Mac. As a result have new Air and Pro Retina plus NAS system by Qnap.
WIth windows was having a regular photo file structure that was stored on NAS. This "library" has approximately 100GB and is manually structured in folders that represent events. So far was downloading pics to Win computer, making some adjustments, cleaning and only then moving them to NAS.
Now what is the best practice to organize such files with Mac and iPhoto provided that I would like to have access to this database from both MAC's. How to go forward with current taken pics? Where to import them, store, etc?
Look forward for your advices.
Adam

Picasa - you mean the google app and storage?
Was using it for sharing pics, but it had limited space.
There is a Picasa photo manager for the Mac - it is from Google but it is not th eonline version (although it integrates to that) - it is local to your mac - You will have to seperately research its abilities and if it will meed your needs
NAS gave me same options so was not utilizing picasa for a long time.
OK - but you can not use your NAS for their iPhoto library so people are suggesting alternatives
Regarding file structure need to explore if I can change it on NAS.
You can not - a NAS is not a disk drive - it is a headless computer and it has its own file system that can not be changed -
You either need to change what you want to do and use iPhoto the way it works or change the software you use to a system that will work with your NAS
Once again  You can not use either iPhoto nor Aperture with their libraries on a NAS
You could use Aperture in a referenced mode with the original photos on the NAS and all of the edits, changes, etc on your mac
You can use other programs - Picassa is a potential - and a Digital Asset Manager (DAM) discussion site will have others - there are soem that work fine with a NAS

  • Sync problems after switch from Windows to Mac; cannot read/write error msg

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue.
I recently switched from a PC to a Mac. To move my iTunes files (50GB) I simply dragged and dropped them from my external HD to my new computer. I know that Apple does not recommend this process, but when I needed to move my library between drivers earlier this year, it was the only way I could do it without getting an error message that killed the process.
Moving the files seemed to be a success. Everything appeared in iTunes, I was able to play the music, etc.
I then tried synching my iPod (Classic 160 GB – I think 5th gen, it’s about 3 years old) on the new computer. I got some message that said you can only have one iPod per account and that I would have to wipe the iPod before syncing. I let it do that.
    Here's where problems began:
With a few gigs to go in the sync I got a message that says something to the effect that iTunes cannot read or write to the iPod. Even though must of the library had been transferred to the iPod, before disconnecting the iPod iTunes wiped all but a few hundred megs worth of music from it. I've tried restoring the iPod a few times but that has had no effect. The first time I tried to sync the iPod it was formatted for Windows. I have reformatted it for Mac.
Also noteworthy is that the first 3/4ths of my library copies very quickly -- 1GB a minute -- but then it eventually slows down to where 100 MB takes 10 minutes. It copies the files in a different order every time, so it doesn't look like it's getting hung up on the same files every time.
In case I had a corrupted file, I deleted all the files added to the library since my last successful sync.
    Suggestions?
Should I just go to the nearest Apple store and beg for mercy?

    Hi!
same problem here.I can use around 30G of my iPod Classic 160G.If i try to upload more than that it will take very long time and finally freezes.
Have no idea what to do..

  • Something running major after switching from Windows to Mac OS X. Any Ideas

I have been experiencing one issue when I transition from Windows back to Mac. It seems like the hard drive is being scanned or something big is running. It slows down Mac until it has finished doing what ever it is doing in about 20 minutes. I'm thinking that Mac is reclaiming space back or something, but it is doing it every time. How do I find out what is doing this and how do I stop it (if I can)? Is it something that will always happen? Did I set something in bootcamp that I can unset maybe?
    Thank You for Your Help.

Finally figured out the problem on my own. My external hard drive was named <Mobile 2.5">. In this thread I read about others having a problem when their hdd was named in a comparable way (e.g. <storage for 21" iMac>).
I renamed my drive to <Mobile 2.5> and the problems are gone!

  • Trouble syncing iPod Classic after switching from Windows XP to Mac OS X

I'm using an 80 GB iPod Classic (the first iPod classic to come out) and I've had it for a little over two years. Ever since I've had it, I've been syncing it with a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows XP Professional. Haven't had any problems since buying it.
I recently bought a 13-inch Macbook Pro, and spent a long time transferring my music from my Windows computer over to this one. When it was done, I formatted my iPod Classic for Mac and tried to sync my library. It works slowly and steadily until the syncing freezes at a random song. Usually after about 700-800 songs is when this happens.
Then my iTunes starts moving very slowly and it's impossible to get the iPod to stop syncing or eject properly. I had to force quit the program and eject the iPod's disc before I could try again. I struggled with syncing in this way about 3 times before I gave up. Now I'm trying to add music manually, a little bit at a time.
However, every time I eject the iPod to see if my songs are getting put on there, it says there is no music. When I go to the "about" screen, it says I have memory on the device, but none of it is music.
I've tried reformatting through iTunes and erasing the disc using disc utility. Anything else I should do?

There are plenty of topics on this very question which gets asked fairly often depending on your search criteria.
    Short answer is no.
The OS X license agreement provides for installing and using it on a single Apple branded/labeled computer only.
The only way to install Tiger on a PC is via a hack of some sort and even if the hack is successful, very little on your PC would be supported and the overall performance would not be worth the trouble.
    > I was reading an artical and found out that the Mac OS X Tiger already has many of the things that the new windows vista has.
What you read is correct and it took Microsoft 5 years to come up with what amounts to a copy of OS X. I read there are 10 separate/different versions of Vista to choose from? How on earth is the average person (or even the above average person) expected to wade through all that confusing mess?
Apple is getting ready to launch a new OS X version called Leopard this spring which will place Windows even father behind.
If you want to run Tiger and Vista, purchase an Intel Mac which gives you the ability to run both operating systems natively on a single computer.

  • After switching from Windows to Mac, my iPod says "No Music"

I have an 80GB iPod Classic. I used to use a Windows machine, but recently switched to a MacBook Pro. Last night, I copied all of my music over to my Mac, and added some new stuff since I have more hard drive space now. I synced the iPod. All of the files are showing up in the iPod file browser within iTunes. So the media is there. However, when the device is ejected, the only media it says is available is photos.  Meanwhile, it does say that I have used 68GB.
Although I have never had a problem with the device, I feared there could be a hardware issue, so I ran the onboard diagnostics. The results were:
    For Retracts: 9
    For Reallocs: 16
These numbers are low, so I don't think it's hard drive failure.
Do I need to do anything to reformat to Mac, other than what I did within iTunes?
Please help. I'm bored and need my iPod to work!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi!
Make sure you authorize the new MacBook  iTunes first, and you're good to go, no need to reformat! Hope this helps!

  • Blurry font after switching from WinXP to Win 7 (Was:Schrift im Dreamweaver CS 3  verschwommen)

<Preran> For the benefit of moderators here, I used Google to translate your content into English:
    Good day,
I have problems with blurry font in Dreamweaver CS3 after switching from Windows XP to Windows 7
I have already tried the following:
In "Edit" Preferences "change font size" - unfortunately that does not work. (which had worked fine in the previous changeover to Windows XP)
Then I got in the forum www. office-loesungen.de the tip, sometimes seen on the control panel display, which percentage is set.
When I got the set to the mean value, the writing was not so blurry, but still not really readable.
Experiments with Clear adjust TypeText were not successful.
There is a trick, so the font is larger
If I have to "small" hinders the size that was at 0.75 in the previous pages, it is readable for me, so I could enter the text and read it.
However, the text is then when uploading larger.
    What can I do now?
For speedy help I would be grateful
    Best regards
    Guten Tag,
    Renate Gundel

I've done this multiple times and it produces essentially the same message, but there is a mention that a restart is pending. This is also strange because this is definitely not the case. First time I used CScleaner it took a while and was obviously busy correcting something. However now when I select clean all, it simply dumps anopther massive log file into AppData and says cleaning completed successfully. Now I just ran it again, so would you like me to post the more recent log file?

  • NI-4060 giving invalid 1st reading after switching from or to LOW Resistance Measurements

We've been using TestStand & LabView to test various Circuit board. On series of test involves checking for a short circuit (Measure Low Resistance 4-wire) then measuring for a 3.5Vrms signal on another part of the board.
For each measurement, the following NI-DMM VI's are used in order:
    niDMMInit, niDMMAutoZero, niDMMConfigure, niDMMMeasure, niDMMClose.
If we do the Low Resistance 4WR measurement, then a AC V measurement, the 1st reading from the DMM is approx 10x too high, if a 2nd reading it done it is then OK.
It doesn't matter how long a delay is before we take the 1st measurement, it's always approx a factor of 1E+1 out.
If however we don't do a Low Restance prior to
the AC V measurement, then the measurement is always correct.
I expermented with turning AutoZero on & off, and various resolution settings, however none of these seem to have an effect on the result.
Can anyone explain these strange results?
    Thanks

Thanks, after playing with a few more settings I found if I turned the Cacheing off niDMMInitWithOptions, with "Cache=0" that everything worked fine, but it would take a couple of seconds to get the first AC measurement after switching from resistance.

How do I switch from Windows to mac on a macmini?

    Hi,
I assume you are talking about a BootCamp Windows, right ?
If so, usually you hold down the Alt/Option-key at startup of your Mac to get the Boot Selection screen.
There you can choose which Operating System to boot into.
Once in OSX you might wanna go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.

How to delet photos that were downloaded from the computer?

Resync the iPad with the computer, but before doing so, click on the device once it is hooked up to iTunes. You will see the Device Profile to the right with several tabs - Photos being one of them. Select the Photos tab, and either uncheck the Sync Photos box at the top (if you don't want any of the photos to be on your device), or uncheck the selected photos you no longer want to sync.
