How to show relation attribute on logical model

Hi.
How to show child entity relation attributes on logical model?
Entity properties attribute list contains relation attributes, LM dont show they.
I have model with several subviews. I need to show some entity without related entities but need to save "semantic" of relations on this subview. When relation attributes does not visible - no information about invisible relations on this subview.
I can create my own visible attribute like "reference to customer" to make sense the relation with entity "Customer". This case problem is relation attribute presents in entity implicitly and relation model have 2 attribute - my own and generated FK column.
In logical model i can`t replace child table relation attribute to my own "visible" attribute.
In relational model i should redefine FK manually. Transformation script is posible but very odd way.
Any advice appreciated.

I am confused.
I think the legacy Oracle Designer Barker notation could show reation attributes optional or by default, int`t it?
Thanks a lot anyway.

  • How to copy field comments from logical model to relational one?

    Dear gurus!
I had a logical model without field comments. Then I made an engineering of logical model into relational one. Later I added field comments to logical model. How can I copy these values to relational model? Seems to me that when I use
    model.getTableSet().toArray()
then I get list of relational model tables. How can I get a list of logical "tables" and to get a relations between those two lists?
    Thank you!

You don't need to write and run script for that. Just use engineering to relational model. Use compare/copy options tab if you don't want something else to go into relational model

  • How to show display attributes like key and description in voyager

This question is on voyager connecting to SAP BI Query. I would like to show both key and description of the row member. It is mentioned in the guide that display attributes can be viewed and changed from the properties tab of the tab panel. But I didnt see any such option in properties tab.

It is a XI 3.0 version. I looked at Voyager user guide for XI 3.0 in page no 202. It is about Using Voyager with SAP
    "Display attributes

  • Delete Rules between Logical Model and Relational Model are different

Relation Properties in Logical model has three Delete Rules: "RESTRICT", "NO_ACTION", "SET NULL".
    1. "RESTRICT" and "NO_ACTION" are same
    2. "CASCADE" is missing.
However, Foreign Key Properties in Physical model has three Delete Rules: "RESTRICT", "NO_ACTION", "CASCADE".
    1. "RESTRICT" and "NO_ACTION" are same
    2. "SET NULL" is missing in this case.
They are supposed to have "NO_ACTION or RESTRICT", "SET NULL", and "CASCADE".
Please fix this ASAP. It is really annoying in Engineering process. Modeler creates duplicate wrong relationships while it engineers.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
it seems you are not using the latest version 3.3. In earlier versions - delete rule set on relationship was used only in some cases to set delete rule on related foreign key. Now delete rule is transferred to FK as it's defined on relationship.
I assume you are using Oracle database - "Restrict" doesn't appear anymore for Oracle.
    2. "SET NULL" is missing in this case. Most likely the foreign key is set as mandatory thus you cannot use "set null" as option.
Modeler creates duplicate wrong relationships while it engineers. Can you elaborate on that - example?

  • Logical Model vs. Process Model

Some questions on SDDM 3.1.4 support for internal consistency of a design:
    1. Can I have the same Information Store on more than one Data Flow Diagram (in the same design)? When I try this, either by creating a new one on the second DFD and trying to give it the same name, or by copying and pasting from the first DFD, the product renames my new Information Store by suffixing a "v1" string to the end of the existing name.
Ideally, the Information Store would not only have the same name on both diagrams, but would be recognized by SDDM as the same "thing," such that a change to the definition in one place would appear the next time it was viewed in the other place.
If this can be done, how?
    2. Can I tell SDDM that an Information Store on a DFD and an Entity on an ERD represent the same concept, and should be linked internally? Ideally in that case, attributes of the Entity and data elements of the Information Store would be forced to be synchronized, or at least I could run a report telling me whether they were or not (based on name matching).
If this can be done, how?
    TIA,
    Mark
Edited by: Mark on Nov 7, 2012 11:50 AM

    Hi Mark,
    1. Can I have the same Information Store on more than one Data Flow Diagram (in the same design)? yes, when you create store it appears also in global list "All information stores" - using drag&drop from there you can add it to each data flow diagram. And it'll be the same thing.
    2. Can I tell SDDM that an Information Store on a DFD and an Entity on an ERD represent the same concept, and should be linked internally? Ideally in that case, attributes of the Entity and data elements of the Information Store would be forced to be synchronized, or at least I >could run a report telling me whether they were or not (based on name matching). You cannot attach entity to information store saying they are the same concept. Moving of attributes (from logical model) between elements of DFD can be presented with information structures you can create (or use) on Flow - so you create Information structure in flow dialog and add attributes from logical model to it. And data store attributes (entities used) is the set of attributes in information structures of incoming and outgoing flows.

  • Importing multiple column names to Logical Model

I have approximately 2,000 column names to import into a new logical model and create my glossary. The names are in currently in .xls format. Is there an easy/efficient way to do this or must I enter each into the logical model attributes? Maybe a way to cut/paste multiple columns into the logical model?
    Thanks...

    Hi,
it's not clear what are you trying to achieve:
I have approximately 2,000 column names to import into a new logical model are you trying to create attributes in logical model - you also need entities that will contain these attributes.
and create my glossary. The names are in currently in .xls format.or you want to create glossary from your file. You need to transform your file in following format and import it in glossary editor using ERwin txt format:
    COUNTRY,CTRY,
    IDENTIFICATION,ID,
    REGION,REG,
    DEPARTMENT,DEPT,
Maybe a way to cut/paste multiple columns into the logical model?if you have tables with columns in relational model then you can use "Engineer to logical model" functionality to get entities and attributes in logical model.

  • How to change "Relation UID" attribute name in logical model?

Beginner question here, sorry if it has been covered already.
In the Logical model in Data Modeler, how do I change an attribute name which is used as a "Relation UID"?
For example, I create two entities each with a Primary UID called "id", then create a 1:1 relationship. Each entity will now have an attribute called "id1" marked as a Relation UID, but I can find no way to change the attribute's name. Is there a way?
    Thanks.

    Hi GuyM,
you need to check setting in preferences - "Data Modeler>Model>logical" - FK attribute name synchronization - clear the check box if you want to set the name manually.

  • How to resolve corruption in logical model?

    Hello
I have a logical model created in SDDM 3.1.2.704.  I have engineered to a relational model successfully in the past, but recently when I tried to engineer logical -> relational nothing happens.  I get the following entry in the log file:

    Hi,
but the problems continues (even when the model is reduced to no entities at all!)
The error you reported (in engineering and import) cannot be reached if there are no entities and attributes - it's a specific error probably related to usage of distinct types that are removed from design.
You can use search functionality in order to find attributes/columns (logical/relational model) with incorrect data type definition based on distinct type.
And it's better to move to Data Modeler 4.0 (833).
So what to search (example is on logical model - it's the same for relational model - column):
    1) Activate search window (CTRL-F when logical diagram is active, or Find icon), switch to advanced mode
    2) for "Object type" Attribute:
    - check "Data Type kind" line and put DT as search text
    - check "Distinct type" line, don't put search text - it'll search for attributes without distinct type
    - change the operand for expression from OR to AND
    3) press "Find" button
If you find some attributes, then you need to decide what to do with them - to set data type or to delete them.
The same for columns in relational model.

  • Propagate a deleted attribute from Logical to Relational

    SQL Developer Data Modeler 4.0.0.825
Hi. From what I gather from the manual, when we delete an attribute from an entity in the Logical model, then Engineer the Relational model, the change should be detected and allow up to decide how the chage is handled in the "Synchronization of Deleted Objects" table of the Engineer to Relational wizard.
But the deletion is not showing in "Synchronization of Deleted Objects" and it does not get deleted in the Relational Model.
    Here's what I am doing.
Create the "Library" model in the SQL Developer Data Modeler tutorial
    Engineer a Relational Model
Add a new attribute "Date of Birth" to the Patrons entity in the Logical
Re-Engineer the Relational (new column is created)
Delete "Date of Birth" from Patrons in the Logical model
    Re-engineer Relational
There are no little "change" icons in the comparison screen - it looks like there are no changes at all
Nothing appears in the Synchronization of Deleted Objects tab
When I click "Engineer", there Date_of_Birth column is not deleted from the Relational model
    Am I doing something wrong?
If I reverse engineer from Relational back to Logical, it DOES identify the Date_of_Birth column as a difference and it wants to copy it back to the Logical.

    Hi Ross,
you need to download DM 4.0 production release (4.0.0.833) - it should work there.

  • How to change the attribute name for a relation

When the Data Modeler engineers a logical model into a relational model it create table columns for the relations. The names of the generated columns are listed in the attributes list in the properties dialog of the relation. The actual name of the attribute gets calculated by the attribute name of the entity which is part of the relation. This is okay, if there is only one relation between two entities. But when there are two relations between two entities the second attribute gets a stupid number suffix. This makes it impossible to give the attribute a useful semantic meaning.
When I engineer the model into a relational model I can change the column name in the relational model. Changing the column name in the relational model is not perfect but it would be okay for me, if it would not be overwritten during the next engineering run.
    So I have two questions:
How can I change the attribute name in the attributes section of the properties dialog of a relation? See here for screen shot:
    http://public.ceving.de/2012050300/relationattribute.png
And if it is not possible:
How can I preserve any changes on column names in the relational model during a re-engineering run?
    Edited by: 931739 on 03.05.2012 08:07

    Hi,
I've logged an Enhancement request on this.
I don't believe it's possible to change it from the Entity or Relationship dialog, as it's not updatable in these dialogs.
What you can do is change it in the Relational Model, and then reverse engineer the change back to the Logical Model.
