HOW TO SORT SAFARI BOOKMARKS IN ORDER

Hi,
Does anyone know how to sort the Safari Bookmarks in order from A to Z so that the sub folders are in order from A to Z??? If so, please advise. Also, please advise if it is possible or not to sort bookmarks in Safari.
Thanks,
relaxed

Safari doesn't sort bookmarks. You need to use a third-party solution for that:
Safari Sorter (free).

How do you sort bookmarks in safari? Why does apple not allow you to do this?

    Hi,
You can manage your Bookmarks anyway you like.
    Start here.  http://www.cultofmac.com/how-to-manage-safari-bookmarks-efficiently-macrx/35616
If you want to alphabetize a Bookmark folder just move it to your Desktop. The Finder will automatically alphabetize the list of Bookmarks for you then just drag it back to the Safari window.

Yes, but you will need to use iCloud ...

You get up to 5GB of storage for free.
And not just bookmarks >  Apple - iCloud - Your info up to date on all your devices.

how to restore safari bookmarks after ios. update

The only way is to restore from a useful backup, if you have one.
If you sync the iPad to iTunes and use Time Machine regularly, you would likely have the appropriate backup to restore from. In that case:
Restore the iPad backup set from Time Machine from a date before you overwrote the bookmarks. The location of the backup is ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ (you can get to it by pressing Cmd+Shift+G in the Finder and entering this path).
Connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from the backup.
If you use iCloud Backup, then you can restore from iCloud and choose which date's backup you'd like to restore from. You can check if you're using iCloud Backup by opening the Settings app on the iPad, then going to the iCloud submenu and looking at the status right below "Storage & Backup", where it would say "iCloud Backup is off." (or "iCloud Backup is on.", as the case may be).
In any case, keep in mind that restoring from a backup means you lose all application data changes after the date of the backup.

  • How to backup Safari bookmarks?

I ordered Snow Leopard and want to do a clean install when it arrives. How do I backup my Safari bookmarks so I can transfer them over? Thanks.

    Hi,
go to - Home/Library and make a backup of the "Safari" folder this contains bookmark/history/top site info.
If it's really only the Bookmarks you're interested in, then just copy that.
After your clean install, put them back in the same location in your Snow Leopard Home Folder.

  • How to get Safari bookmarks into iPad Air?

I have an iMac running the current version of OS X. Also have an iPad Air with IOS 8.1.3. How can I get my Safari bookmarks on the iMac over to this iPad? Because of Apple no longer allowing simple ID's, I had to create a new ID. Trying to use this same ID on my iMac, iPad, and iPhone did not work - I spent hours trying to sort that out and gave up. Anyway, how can I get my bookmarks copied over?
    Thanks, Jim

Oh, if I only knew the answer to that question. Somewhere, somehow, something got screwed up with my "new" Apple ID and the underlying email accounts. I spoke on the phone to an Apple support guy who finally gave up after 30 minutes. As it stands now, all three devices see the same email messages - very good thing. However contacts, notes and anything else on the iMac are not shared on th iPhone and iPad. The goofy thing is that those items DO share between the iPhone and the iPad, but anything I do on either of those devices is not sync'd over to the iMac. I've spent so much time messing with it that my head hurts. I wish I could simply clear out all three and start over, but the way things have worked out so far, I'd probably wind up with NOTHING working. Very, very annoying.

  • How to Restore Safari Bookmarks with Time Machine in Lion

    Hi -
I want to restore my Safari bookmarks.
I am running Lion and have a Time Machine backup with the correct bookmarks.plist file.
The problem - as I see it - is that the "Library" folder - where the Safari bookmarks.plist file is located - no longer shows up (by default in Lion) in the Home folder.
I fixed it so that "Library" does now show up in the home folder but since it was not set to show "Library" at the time the backup I need was done, it doesn't show up in the Home folder for the backup that I need.
I have tried restoring the entire Home folder but this is not restoring my bookmarks for some reason.
I even tried restoring the entire hard drive but that did not work either!
It would seem that the "library" folder - even if it was hidden - would be restored when I did the entire Home folder or the entire hard drive.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Brillianrt! Worked like a charm.
Then I found an easy solution to alphabetizing that doesn't require 3rd party software in a Macworld article:
"Without resorting to external tools or dragging links about, it’s actually fairly simple to order the list. Make sure you can see a Finder window, or your Desktop, and the Safari Bookmarks window at the same time. Now just drag the folder (or folders) you want sorted from the Safari window to your Desktop—you’ll see the folder appear when you release the mouse. Switch to the Finder, and open each folder. Set the view to List view, and then close the window (not strictly necessary, but I’m a neat freak).
Now drag the folder back into Safari’s Bookmarks window; Safari will treat it like a newly-imported folder of bookmarks and add it to the list. Open the folder in the Bookmarks window, and you’ll see your neatly-sorted bookmarks."

  • How To: Sort Numbers in Ascending Order in a Generated List

Greetings! How do I set up a Generated List of Paragraphs so that it sorts in true ascending order? What I want is:
    1.1
    1.2
    1.3
    1.4
    1.5
    1.6
    1.7
    1.8
    1.9
    1.10
I have tried every trick I can think of with the sort order listed on the reference page. But all I can get is something that sorts by individual number (ignoring the numeric value) like:
    1.1
    1.10
    1.11
    1.2
    1.20
    1.21
    1.3
    Any help is much appreciated!

Hello there, Michael! Thanks so much for looking at my post! Alas, the LOP will not work. I should have explained more, but it was so complicated I thought folks would give up reading.
Here's the best I can render it without getting permission to share a good example document. I do not blame anyone if it's too cumbersome or convoluted to wade through...
This is a requirements document which has sort of a "legal" tinge to it--as the document evolves we must maintain traceability for individual requirements. This means, for example:
    Version 1 - I have requirements 1 and 2.
Version 2 - I need to add a new requirement, which should appear before requirement 1 in the document. Even though it comes before requirement 1 in the document, numerically it will be requirement 3 and requirement 1 will remain requirement 1.
Version 3 - I need to remove requirement 2. Even though I now have only 2 requirements, their numbers will not change (they remain requirements 1 and 3, appearing in reverse order).
Version 4 - I need to move requirement 3 to be after requirement 1. Again, the requirements keep their original number, even though their position has changed and there is no longer a "requirement 2" number in use.
Originally, I told the team (I'm doing this for a different dept), that they would have to hand-number requirements, which they did for a while. But that was getting very cumbersome, and the scenarios above are limited to one or two occurrences per document. So I created an auto-number sequence for them to use in the initial version and added a little smoke-and-mirrors work process to take care of changes in later versions. The last bit of chicanery I cannot get to work is the index...
Even if there are no changes to the requirements after the initial version, the index still does not sort in ascending numeric order. It was working with the hand-numbered requirements because they were using leading zeros. But without being able to include leading zeros in the auto-numbering formats (I tried the "use a zero as a tab leader" solution and like to have thrown my new monitor out of the window), I cannot find a solution.
Or rather, I think the solution is "you have to hand-number requirements".
For anyone who has made it this far, I truly appreciate your time and patience!

  • How to sync Safari bookmarks to my iPad2?

I've had my iPad2 for a few months now, and I noticed that my iMac Safari bookmarks are more current than those on my iPad2, even though I think I'm set up for them to be kept current using iCloud.  I use the cable to sync with iTunes on my iMac, and I've set it up to use iCloud storage.  Obviously, I'm probably causing a conflict somehow, so please review how to ensure the iPad2 bookmarks are current with the iMac.

This generally worked for me (finally!), though I think there is still a tricky place where your bookmarks in Safari on the iPad "over-write" those on the iMac. I was expecting some type of merge where bookmarks that were different in either system would be added to the other, but that may be expecting too much.
I would also suggest two slight modifications/additions (though I have not thoroughly tested these):
In step 3 - press "Keep on my iPad" after you turn off Bookmarks
In step 5 - back in your iPad, leave Bookmarks "Off"
I am disappointed that the iPad user guide fails to adequately describe how this process works. If you have both an iPad and an iMac, syncing the bookmarks seems like a pretty important function to get right.

  • How to save Safari bookmarks when changing ownership and ID?

My wife has her own iPad which I tied to my ID and account.  Now I would like to let her have her own account and ID.  I hope to share a few things eventually with home sharing.   I can use her iCloud email address to set up an account for her but am concerned about her Safari bookmarks which are not linked to my account.  How might I set her up and safe her bookmarks?
