How to wrap a view in oracle

Does any one know how to wrap a view in Oracle, I know it is not possible, yet. Are there any third party software to wrap the logic in the view.

Your best bet is to write a view that queries the source tables and contains any necessary business logic
CREATE VIEW VBASE AS SELECT A.COLUMN_A FROM TABLE_1 A, TABLE_2 B, TABLE_3 C WHERE A.ID = B.ID AND B.ID = C.ID;
create a view for exposure to the user that queries the base view.
CREATE VIEW VSECURE AS SELECT COLUMN_B FROM VBASE;
and grant privileges to VSECURE.
GRANT SELECT ON VSECURE TO SECURE_USER;
This will allow the user to see, query, and describe VSECURE without seeing the definition for VBASE.
The advantage of the this approach is that the query engine can still push predicates down into the base view to optimize the performance or the query where as this is limited with the pipeline function and can become a tuning headache.

How to sort Data in XML template (rtf) file?

Hi, I have an oracle 11i custom report (rdf) with an xml output to a PDF. There is a formula column in the report. Now I need the data to be sorted on this formula column. As we cannot sort on formula column, i have decided to find a way to sort it in the data in the XML template. But I don't really know how to sort and also where to specify the sort tag in the rtf file. I appreciate your response.

As long as you don't have your ^field commands grouped inside a ^group the order in the .dat file is not important. Your last command
^field BG_DOC_LN__LN_AM
246624.12
should populate field BG_DOC_LN_AM wherever you place it on your form. Obviously you need to name the fields according to your ^field commands and not just use tab (move to next field).

Sorting character column ( used in order by clause dynamically)

Hi,
I need help on sorting character-based numbers. Like say, I want to sort customers based on street numbers(which is a character string being used in the
order by clause) they live in.
The criteria are :
i. Numbers must take precedence.
This being a character string, 1000001 comes before 2. This shouldn't happen. And you cannot use to_number
since using it with a string having characters in it would raise an error.
ii. If only a single alphabet occurs as the last character, then treat the whole string as a number except the last character and then sort it
as if sorting a number. Something like : if you have 1000A, 200D, 200B, 1000X, the result would be 200B,200D,1000A,1000X.
iii. if a character occurs elsewhere in the string, then perform the search normally as if performing a character search.
The output of the following data :
100
A101
B100A
110C
C120B
120
100020
120C
C1100
100D
would be like :
100
100D
110C
120
120C
100020
A101
B100A
C120B
C1100
Please note that the sort is being done dynamically, so I could have access to the values of the street numbers only during run time.

Create a function to test whether the column is numeric :

And try this query
Assume the table name is TEST with column STREET

order by case is_numeric(STREET) when 1 then LPAD(STREET,20, ' ') else STREET end
Please make sure that 20 mentioned above is the column size for STREET.

it could be very help to me if you provide some information about sorting technique used by oracle engine for order by clause.
Issue i am facing :

Line Date
1 05-06-2013 00:00:00
2 05-06-2013 00:00:00
when we query above table using order by date, it is returning line 2 prior to line 1. we would like to know why it is returning line 2 first?

How to run batch file from oracle forms 9i

i have a data in csv file. i want to upload it to my database. i am using sql loader for it.
i have made a batch file which run the sql loader and transfer my data to database.
How to run batch file from oracle forms 9i.
when i press the button, nothing uploads in my database. (when i simply run the batch file it works).

can someone show me how to sort this in numerical order?
only the first column in order, but the rest of the columns will follow the sorted values.

How to sort a string as integer

Hi,
I need to sort some log files which got timestamps as below:
1149807013000 this is line no 1
1149807023000 this is line no 2
I am converting the date time stamp of the log file to Date.getTime() in a ArrayList and then want to sort this so that i will get them sorted from oldest timestamp to new.
I am using Collections.sort(ArrayList) method, but it is sorting them as String. As this is simple array would it be possible to tell the sort program to sort as Numeric ?. I donot know how to write comparator for this kind of Array, any help here appreciated.

The ArrayList populated here from reading the text files - finding the date pattern - converting to ephoch seconds, and then i need to sort before converting back to normal date. When i verified the sort output, i see sorting like below:

20
where as in numeric i would like to see,
1
2
20
100

It is not possible to perform a joining query across a variable class 1:1 mapping. If you need this sort of querying I would recommend using a shared table between your interface implementers and inheritance. Then you can have a relationship to the root class and query on the shared attributes.

How to sort files and folders like Windows

I don't know if this is specific to Arch or every other Linux distro but one thing that really bugs me in Arch is how files and folders are sorted. I use Windows as my main OS (don't start on that please) and I have one folder properly organized exactly as I want it and I like it how Windows sorts this. I access that same folder from my Arch installation, the problem is that the sorting is different and it gets on my nerves lol...
This is how Windows sorts that specific folder:

How to sort the data in JSP using stylesheet sorting?

Hi, i extracted data out in and display them <%=data%> in the jsp, but how to sort? do i have to provide a drop down list that gives different sorting options, and when user clicks on one option, say sort by title, the collection of results are sorted out on the same jsp page? so all in all, only one jsp page is needed or do i need to create xml files, etc?
i have no idea how to integrate the xml sorting into the jsp page, even after seeing online help, cos there is no example of a jsp page with sorting to refer to. PLease help, thanks alot!

im getting the data from beans, but one of the requirements was that i cant use the database to sort and display but i have to use xslt to do the sorting in the jsps, so i have no idea how to do so. possible to give an example? thanks
