How to stop Firefox for Androids crashing on my Kindle Fire.

Installed OK but when I open, opening page appears, lasts ~5 seconds, then disappears. How can I stop this?

Firefox for Android is known to crash on the Kindle HD. We have a development version that should resolve the crash at http://nightly.mozilla.org

  • How can I stop firefox for android from increasing font sizes on some pages?

    I try to get my browser to show websites exactly as they would look in my Firefox for desktop pcs. Checking "show desktop version" helps, but still, on many sites the font size is almost doubled compared to my laptop's browser. a good example would be the amazon site. Not only the font size but the whole layout seems bigger, although both my laptop any my tablet have the same screen resolution. Changing the text size setting to tiny didn't have an impact on any site at all.
    Also, is there a way to manually zoom in/out of a website like strg+ -/+ in the normal firefox does?

    This is an interesting one. I'm not a web developer so others will be able to give a more thorough answer but I think the thing is that the navigator.userAgent is not the only source of information about your device available to the site.
    Recently user agent sniffing has become less popular because browsers tend to catch each other up and, for example, you don't want to force IE10 users to view a web page designed to get around lacking features in IE6. See the following links for more info on this:
    * http://jibbering.com/faq/notes/detect-browser/
    * http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8970800/is-server-side-useragent-detection-bad
    * https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Browser_detection_using_the_user_agent
    I expect what is happening is that the site is instead using feature detection of some kind and is varying the images served based on the features it can detect rather than the useragent string of the browser you are using.
    As far as I can tell there is no setting in Firefox for Android that is default-zooming in on desktop websites. It just displays what the site provides.

  • Why does Firefox for Android crash when I try to play any media or plugin content?

    I have had this device ASUS MEMO Pad for 6 months and Firefox for Android has never been able to play any media or plugin content without crashing. I have tried playing flash with the appropriate flash plugin installed and without and it crashes every time (it should not crash even without the plugin - it should handle it).
    Even HTML5 video and mp3 audio will cause a crash every time (with tap to play enabled or disabled).

  • How big is Firefox for Android?

    I don't see any specific information on the info site for Firefox for android. I want to know how many bytes it requires before I download and install it. I have a d2 pad and am a novice in the Android system. I have used Firefox for years with Windows and have only had one problem with Firefox in all those years. I would like the same perks with my d2 pad.
    Thanks!

  • Firefox for Android crashing while loading website

    Hello all.
    I've purchased an Android 4.0 smartphone recently - LG L5.
    I then installed the Firefox version for Android and tried to access a webpage I've been building. Though when it's still loading, Firefox crashes.
    After browsing some related articles, I installed Firefox Nightly and the issue persists.
    What is exactly causing it to crash? Other webpages work just fine. Thanks in advance.

  • How do I stop Firefox for Android from popping up the on-screen keyboard when loading a page with a search box on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2?

    When I go to certain sites on the web which have search boxes, Firefox will pop up the onscreen keyboard as the page load completes, without me doing anything to focus the search box. It's annoying to have to tell the keyboard to go away each time before I can navigate in the page.
    I specified the device I am using (Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch) because it uses a nonstandard keyboard applet, called simply the Samsung Keyboard, which could be doing something different than the regular Android one. I don't have the option of switching to the stock Android keyboard.

    That won't help iamjayakumars. That pref blocks popup windows on load. The keyboard is not a popup window.
    This behavior happens because the website sets focus to a text box on the page. Firefox is following the standard behavior for desktop browsers.

  • How do I stop Firefox for Android from saving EVERYTHING I TYPE.

    I want AUTOCOMPLETE AUTOFILL and AUTOTEXT turned off but there's no option. Will uninstall and leave one star review if this issue isn't addressed.

    hello, try this: enter '''about:config''' into the address bar, search for the preference named '''browser.formfill.enable''' & change its value to '''false'''.

  • Firefox for Android crashes on all three of my Sony Xperia V's (LT25i), usually when a page contains one or more embedded videos or Flash animations.

    I have three Sony Xperia V (LT25i) phones, all of which are running the latest Android firmware version (for that model (9.2.A.2.5) to date. Since I had been using Firefox since 2007, I tried numerous times to run Firefox on all three with limited success. The browser crashes whenever I load a page that had embedded videos or any other form of animation. The issue was so frustrating that it caused me to stop using Firefox altogether and switch to Chrome, which is in no way nearly as sophisticated, streamlined and feature-rich as my formerly-beloved Firefox - a situation which I would very much like to reverse. Thanks.

    Oh, there are too many to list - basically any page that's even slightly heavy-handed with videos and/or animation.
    For the record, I managed to ''somewhat'' alleviate the issue by uninstalling Adblock Plus, but I haven't yet done enough testing to verify that Adblock Plus ''actually was'' the root cause of the problem. However, that didn't solve the issue of the text on any page flickering at five-second intervals, which makes reading longer articles a very annoying and unpleasant experience.

  • Firefox for Android crashes on open after 34.0.1 update

    "Unfortunately, Firefox has stopped" message comes up after installing 34.0.1. App is unusable. I have rolled back to the previous version for now.
    I have 2 phones this is happening on, both Galaxy S 4, stock running 4.4.4.
    Tried:(in this order)
    1-clear cache
    2-clear data
    3-reboot and uninstall
    4-uninstall & download 34.0.1 from Mozilla website
    No luck..
    Anyone have any other ideas or seen this happening?

    HI artzmama,
    In order to better understand the issue, a little investigation will have to be done.
    *Are there any crash reports listed under the page about:crashes?
    *Do you have any addons or apps installed in Firefox? If so, please try to open it without these installed.

  • Firefox for android crashes every time I try to open it

    I am fairly new to fire fox but was really liking it on my new galaxy note 8 tablet. However it updated in the last couple of days and ever since then it won't open. I have not yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling as I am not sure if that is the best course of action. I'd be grateful for any help! Thanks.

    '''Flashfox is not made by Mozilla.'''
    We strongly recommend you only use Firefox made by us. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox
    If you need Flash you can get Flash from Adobe by following this support article. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-watch-flash-videos-firefox-android

  • Firefox for Android crashes often for me, I believe its because my tablet has a low amount of RAM.

    I have a low-end tablet that (despite having 8GB of storage), only has 512MB of memory/RAM. I've already encountered a few games that won't run because of this limitation. Up until now, it was things I could live without. But I get frequent Firefox crashes and I believe it may be due to this same issue...insufficient memory. When Firefox crashes, I notice I have very little free RAM. I've gotten into the habit of force closing everything before I use Firefox, but this doesn't guarantee Firefox won't still crash. And by crash, I mean the application just spontaneously quits and drops me back at the home screen. I used to use AdBlock Plus, but I removed it to reduce Firefox's memory footprint size. I was wondering if anyone had any other tips or tricks to either reduce the amount of memory Firefox is using or to free up more memory on my system. In case it matters, my tablet is a Digiland DL701Q which runs 4.4.

    Please don't link to third party apps. The one you suggested does not seem trustworthy.
