Adding a Raspberry Pi to our network

Let me just begin by saying the while the company I work for is, thankfully, really starting to invest in their IT infrastructure we still have quite a bit of "ghettofied" systems in place. One such system was how we played our hold music over our phone system. Pretty much we had the music on a USB stick that went into a super cheap walmart boom box. We had an aux cable come out of that which we had to cut and splice into a line going into our phone system. While that worked for X amount of years the boombox finally died.Instead of buying new boom box only to have it happen again, I grabbed a Pi and loaded up the music on it and now have the music playing through it beautifully. Anyways I digress, was wondering what I should think of if I consider putting this Pi on our network. In order to set it up I had to drag a monitor, keyboard,...

Hi
"Can I keep my Snow Leopard Server and add the Lion Server to our network?"
Yes.
"Are there any instructions for doing this?"
Not really although it depends on what you want? Without any more information it's difficult to advise? With the information you've already given you could consider a number of deployment/integration strategies?
(a) Configure Lion Server as an MDM Server and use that to 'manage' only your IOS Devices and nothing else.
(b) Connect Lion Server to your existing Server's LDAP Directory (assuning it's an OD Master) and allow users from that Server access to services in Lion Server your existing Server can't provide.
Assuming you want these technologies, but Wiki WebDAV and WebMail (no more Squirrelmail - finally) are certainly much improved in Lion Server. Profile Manager is new and full or promise - especially for IOS devices IMHO. Web Services are painful in Lion Server and hopefully Apple may 'fix this soon? Assuming you want the service anyway I would stick with what you already have and move across once Lion Server has been stabilised and improved.
Given time you could consider moving your existing Server to Lion and from there implement an OD Master/Replica relationship assuming this would be something you'd be interested in?

  • Lost purchased items when adding another apple tv to our network

We have had an apple tv working perfectly in a downstairs bedroom for about a year. I just bought another apple tv for our upstairs living room for xmas, and was told at the apple store that all i had to do to have them view videos from each other was to add them to our home network and sync it to our itunes on our home computer. i added the upstairs ATV to our network, and synced them both to my laptop, which i had never done for the downstairs ATV. now my downstairs ATV is completely empty, except for a couple of videos i had on our laptop. I can see all of our content that we had purchased for our downstairs ATV, over 100GB worth, on our iTunes but they're showing up in grey. i don't think they are sitting on our laptop or on the downstairs ATV. how do i recover those programs? they don't see to be available for re-downloading on iTunes. i'm bummed because we had a ton of programs on there. help!

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
There wasn't really anything wrong with the advice you were given from the store, unfortunately you chose to replace your primary library with the library on your laptop, whereas what you should have done is add it as a secondary library.
    (Please excuse my unsupported nomenclature)
I suspect if you remove the laptop library as a primary library and re-link your original library as a primary and then add the laptop as a secondary library, you will once again have access to your purchased content.
    See This
Additionally, may I suggest doing something about only having your purchased content on the tv, it's not a good idea and can easily be lost, you may want to let it transfer to your primary library.

    Hi,
    Let’s try the following resolution:
Exchange 2007 server>EMC>server configuration>Hub Transport>Receive connector>properties>Network> add your new company server IP address in the tab “receive mail from remote servers that have these IP addresses”.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • Adding a new switch to the network....configuring internet access

Hey guys i need some help!
I am trying to set up my first switch. I am using the catalyst 2950 for learning on.
The network im on right now (the one with internet) has the following settings.
    10.22.227.???
    255.255.255.0
    10.28.43.254
The one i am learning on i connect to it by going to 192.168.0.1 this will allow me into it using the Cisco Network Assistant.
I have a laptop on port 1 using Vlan1 and i have Desktop on port 24 with vlan 1 and i have a cable from our 10.22.227 network pluged into port 23
I am able to see the computers and i can share files on it. What i dont understand being a noob is why i dont have any internet on ether computer.
I have setup up port 23 as a switch.
It seams like to me i would have to give the switch a ip address a subnet mask a default gatway and a dns of the 10.22.227 network on port 23.
Can some one throw some light on the subject and point me in a good direction?

    @de fl
If i go to a computer on the 10. network i can ping and go out and do everything i need to.
But if i try and ping with in the new switch (192) it does not work. I have added an ip address and a default gateway I have added a screen show on how our network is set up.
To me i think i need to add a ip address subnet mask and default gateway to the switch for the new switch to work.

  • Certain Windows updates will not download on any PC on our network

    Hi,
We've had a problem that seemed to develop a couple of months ago in that certain Windows updates will not download to any PC on our network, most notably IE11 and .NET 3.5.1 updates. Most others will download and install with no problem at all.
I have tried running the Windows Update Fixit, I have tried deleting the /Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder, I have tried the System Update Readiness Tool, I have added the various Windows Update server URLs to our firewall whitelist, I have
tried a clean boot, but to no avail. Downloading and installing the affected KB patches manually works fine though.
When I connect any of our PCs directly to an external router the updates download and install fine. It's only when connected to our network (which comprises a Peplink WAN load balancer, Cyberoam CR25iNG security device, Windows 2003 domain controller
& Arista 10Gig switch) that the problem exists.
Most updates download successfully but others only get to a certain percentage downloaded, most commonly 45%, although I'm not sure if that's a meaningful figure.
For example, the most recent batch of updates all download and install fine except for KB2982378, KB2894844, KB2972211 & KB2973112. Is there something those updates have in common that something on our network could be blocking?
I'm really unsure where to try looking next, so if anyone has any suggestions they would be very welcome please.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi  Matt,
When you connect  to an external router directly, does your network location change to private or still domain network?
I suspect this is related to some firewall setting, even related to your network security device.
Please check or upload the WindowsUpdate.log ( %windir%\Windowsupdate.log), we can find some information about downloading phase.

  • Can I create a static IP on our iPad when our network uses DHCP?

iPad/Touch connectivity was great until Charter upgraded our router to an SMCd3gn yesterday. We like what the router does for all our other Macs but the mobiles are not happy. I've read about the glories of giving them a static IP but I can't figure out how to do it when our network is DHCP. Do I use the IP address currently assigned on the DHCP screen? The other thing is that we have to use OpenDNS numbers on all the computers or the router is extremely slow, unlike the old one so it's definitely the router. Does this complicate things? If I can make the iPad static could someone tell me what goes where? Surprisingly, this is not yet on the web.

If you assign a static IP address to the iPad then you must choose it so that your router will not assign it to another device via DHCP. Check the router configuration to see which addresses are being used for which purpose.

  • Adding a PC to my wireless network

I would like to find out how I can add a Windows laptop (as yet unpurchased, so assume your basic Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc. running Windows 7) to my wireless network. I currently have an iMac running 10.6.5 and an Airport Extreme Base Station. I would like to add the PC to my network so that I can browse, share and edit files across my network. Does anyone have any links, how-tos, advice on how I can do this? Also, other than convenience, are there any upsides/downsides to this (besides having to work on a Windows computer!)? Thanks in advance.

Very similar to the Macs, Windows-based PCs can be configured to share resources: files, internal or attached hard drives, attached-printers, or internal or attached CD drives.
How to configure the PC to do so will be based on the exact operating system of your new device.
Three ways to experience this before going out and buying a PC is: 1) Borrow a PC from a friend, colleague or relative, 2) Use Bootcamp, under OS X to install the Windows OS that you will be interested in, and 3) Similarly, install either Parallels or VMware to run Windows as a virtual Guest.
Using any of these methods can help answer your second question on the upsides/downsides of adding a Windows client to your network.

Using the personal hotspot feature on the iPhone 5, I am able to connect to the internet.  We also use Juniper NCP client to access our local system from a remote location.  A VPN connection is created, but I am unable to access servers in our network.  This same functionality works using my colleagues iPhone 4.
Both phones are running iOS 6.1.3.  I tried to reset network settings, but still unable to ping servers in our network.  This is a feature that our sales team relies heavily on when out of the office.  Hoping someone has some suggestions on what is different between the 2 phones.

    Hi,
Generally, this issue should be related with something called split tunneling, since you’re using a F5 vpn client, you need to look for something related to split tunneling in the F5 VPN client's documentations.
Here is an example, share it with you as a reference.

  • Mac OS 10.9 and installation for Laserjet 1022n to our networks

I work for a school district and have purchased new MacBook Pro laptops for all our preschool teachers.  I am trying to set up their laptops to our network printer in their classrooms.....however when I try and use the mac setup.....there is no software for this printer.  I then connected the USB cord to the printer and it downloads the software for desktop version not the network version.  When I try to add the IEP address......it says it can not use the printer because it is already in use.
I have been struggling with this for two years now.  Possibly I need software to install?

I have connected a new (set up for mac) seagate external HD and although file sharing is turned on the HD doesn't show up on any of the other computers on our network??????  Please help!!!!!

If the HD is setup for Mac and plugged into the AE.. with file sharing on, it should work.
    Try manually mounting the disk.
In finder use go, connect to server, and type in AFP://AEName or AFP://AEIPaddress.. where you replace what I wrote with the actual name or actual IP.
Later versions of Mac OS.. like ML for some strange reason have their preferences set by default to not show network drives.. change finder preference to see everything.

  • User is not receiving some email from outside of our network.

My company runs a 2010 exchange server in house and we have Microsoft Office 2010 running on all systems. Recently one of the executives at my company has been having trouble with receiving email. As far as I can tell the issue is just related to him.
He still receives a bulk of his email, I've been sending him multiple test messages from different outside emails and he gets every single one of those, but there are times when he doesn't receive emails from certain people. He has no filters/rules set up
for him in outlook or in our server. I'm not convinced the issue is with our server or outlook. We have a barracuda spam firewall on our network and when I look through it's message log, the emails that he needs to receive are not even showing up. It would
show up even if it was blocked. This means that they don't even touch our network. This morning it happened again and the executive had the other guy send me the email and I received it no problem and I could see it on our firewall message log, but not the
one he had sent the executive earlier in the morning. I need to come up with some kind of solution or work around, or even just different ways to trouble shoot the issue. Any input would be appreciated.

All the clues indicate this is not the problem on recipient Server/Client. We are out of control for the message item even doesn't touch our domain. Maybe we need to contact ISP or resolve the issue on Sender site.

This has been occuring for the past few months.  I have 8 years with this not happening on this machine and this network.  I now have to save to my desktop, then move the file to the correct folder, re-open it and work from there.  Any ideas to fix this??
