How to syncronise 2 cols in two different tables....

Question

In a form i have got 2 col EMPNO,ENATI....
EMPNO ENATI
12 02
13 12
14 34
15 09
16 10
This has been created using DB wizard...
now i have got other table where the values for this ENATI are stored...the table name is nationality_vu
i.e SQL>select stlename from nationality_vu where stcode=018;
output
NATIONALITY
GERMAN
Now when i create a relationship between table1 and nationality_vu using DB wizard(join condition) and specify that i want 10 values to be dispalyed at the run time i only get the nationality of the empno where the cursor blinks......
I had even written this code under WHEN_NEW_FORM INSTANCE

select stlename into  :enati
from nationality_vu
where stcode=:enati;
exception
*     when no_data_found then*
*     null;*
end;
i want the nationalities to be displayed in palce of thr code ...n i have tried many ways using trial n error but in vain...

Hi!
Are you sure you want to select the stlename value into the :enati column?
Better create a non database item for the stlename value.
Use your cursor for the stlename value in a when-validate-item trigger of :enati
and in a post-query trigger on your block.
Create a function for it:
function get_stlename ( f_enati in nationality_vu.stcode%type ) return nationality_vu.stlename%type is
begin
if
  f_enati is null
then
  return ( null );
end if;
for l_rec in ( select stlename
               from nationality_vu
               where stcode = :enati
               and rownum = 1 ) loop
  return( l_rec.stlename );
end loop;
return ( null );
end;then use it in the above mentioned triggers like:
begin
:block.stlename := get_stlename ( :block.enati );
end;Btw: it is always better to use :block.item syntax in your code.
