How to temporarily lock or disable a user account

Hi, I need help on the easiest way to do the following:
I want to temporarily disable one of the user accounts on my Mac so it cannot
be used.
I do not want to delete the account, just block it
Thanks

Aha! Now that's the kind of info I was looking for.
To hide the user with short user name "jim" from the login window, first log in to an admin account, launch Terminal, and paste in these two lines:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow \
HiddenUsersList -array-add jim
To unhide the account, enter this:
sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow \
HiddenUsersList

    Go to the System Preferences>Users.
Click the lock if and enter your password, if necessary.
Then click on the "+" symbol below the accounts list.
From the "New Account" menu, select"Administrator" and fill in the rest of the information.
And finally click the "Create Account" button.
Done. A new Administrator user account.

  • Disable OID user account

I am new to OID, but very familar with Novell eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory.
Both Novell eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory have the ability to disable login accounts so they can not be used for login (ie say when a user leaves your company).
I have been unable to find in OID how to disable a user account, could someone point me to that please?

there is an attribute called "orclisenabled" and you can disable a user by setting this attribute to "Disabled"

  • How do I transfer Pages from one user account to another

How do you transfer Pages from one user account to another on the same Mac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you haven't modified anything, Pages is installed on /Applications. All users have access to this folder, identified as "Applications" on the Finder sidebar, so you don't have to move anything, because Pages will work on all your users.
If you have installed Pages on ~/Applications (being ~ your user folder), then you have to move Pages to /Applications. After doing this, you will be able to access to Pages on all users

i have one imac. my wife and i each have our own user accounts and itunes library.  How do we share selected music between user accounts?

To give other users read-only access to your library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support article linked below.

  • Disable OID User account after 90 days of inactivity - OIM

    Hello there,
I have a requirement where I have to disable a users account if he/she has not logged in since last 90 days into our environment(OID). The users are authenticated via OAM when they are logging in. Does anybody has any idea which attribute in which object class in OID needs to be checked for the last login attempt made by the user and what is the datatype of the same? Is it a date that I can compare after making a initial LDAP context to OID and pointing to each single user?
Really need a solution for this. Please respond.
    Many Thanks,
    - oidm.

    Check the schema description at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28196_01/idmanage.1014/b25348/schema.htm#CFHCGFCC
You create a code that runs daily, check for the last login dates and, if is older than 90 days, you disable the OID user.

my iTunes library is on an external hard drive; how do I set it so other users (accounts) on my imac, will also have the same library, with the same playlists

    Quit iTunes.
    Sign into another user account.
    Hold Option, launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external.
    Do this for all users.
NOTE: You must quit iTunes when switching users as the library can only be opened by one user at a time.

  • How to disable a user account and issue CoA via REST? (ACS 5.4)

Like the subject line says, I need to disable user accounts via REST, as well as issue CoA doing the same. Is this even possible? I've been trying for a few days now and I can do GET queries on user accounts, but I can't get anything to work using PUT.

According to this document it should be possible to use the PUT method.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_system/5.4/sdk/rest.html
Could you please tell us how are you using the PUT method? I could try to replicate it in my lab.

  • Disables AD User account in OIM 9.1 still user can access its account

The following issue is happing on OIM Version: 9.1.0.1866.25
When disabling a single AD resource, it will appear on IdM in status as Disabled, even though it remains accessible by the user. No change of password occurs.
Where should I check and how can I fix that.
    Kind Regards,
    Silviu

What task is attached to Disable of user? Ideally we have an adapter attached to disable user who disables user in target AD system when fired. Login to design console, open you process definition and open disable user task to see what adapter is attached.

  • PC locks up at select user account screen

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I built my new pc over a month ago. I've been able to tease out all new pc teething issues except this.
After I boot up my pc, it runs through bootup, without any problems up until the user account screen, where it then locks up. After I hit the reset switch, it then boots up normally. I've tried removing and reinstalling the Audigy drivers. It locks up even when the drivers were removed, so I don't think it's the soundcard.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Here's my System
    A64 4000+(newcastle)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    2x512Mb OCZ DDR PC-3700 466MHz Gold Edition, Rev. 3
    Audigy 2 (SB0240)
    Gainward 2400 (6800GT) GS
    Running WindowsXP SP2

I know this may sound silly, or has nothing to do with the problem.
But have you tried installing Win Xp with sp1 only?   My friends tried using sp2 on his comp and when he got to the login screen it went blank on him and wouldnt respond.
    Good luck.

  • Locked out of my user account - can anyone help please!?

    Hi all
I have a rather annoying issue that only happened a few hours ago and I have come here to ask for help if I may because I do not have the experience to resolve it on my own.
Here goes.. Using my 2009 mbp, running snow leopard 10.6, computer hangs with spinning ball, try to shutdown and it just hangs. So I shutdown with the power button and when I power up I find I cannot access my standard user account with everything in it - I get a message saying " cannot access account at this time due to an error" .
The mbp I'm using has two drives : one intel ssd for osx and program's and a hitachi hdd for storage. The hitachi drive is in a caddy in the place of the SuperDrive and the SuperDrive is now in an external enclosure and the intel ssd in the hard drive bay.
    Things I have tried :
I have booted in safe mode - same error message.
Cleared PRAM - same error message.
Booted from system disc and tried to reset password - same error message.
Ran disc utility from cd and I see that the hitachi hdd is not mounted - it will not let me mount the volume, first aid sees that it's still alive but that's all it will do.
The intel ssd checks out just fine in disc utility first aid - I repaired permissions.
I suspect the hitachi hdd is at fault but would really like someone's educated opinion if that's ok? As all my data is on it and stupidly I have not backed all of it up.
I am having to send this from my iPhone !
    Many thanks
    David

It sounds like the Hitachi with your home folder may have died or become problematic, in one way or another. This won't solve that problem, but it may help to get you to be able to at least log in. These instructions are for resetting a password with a CD, not your issue, but it will allow you to create a new admin account, so at least you will be able to login. Not sure what will solve the problem with the Hitachi, if it won't mount because, for all intents and purposes, it's dead. If that's the case--and can't be certain it is--you might need some kind of recovery software. (Google that for Mac. There are many available programs.) That booting in Safe Mode doesn't fix the issue is not a good sign.
Make certain you give this new account admin privileges.
Reset Mac Password – without a CD or Boot Drive
reset mac password Using a pretty nifty trick you can reset a forgotten Mac password without a Mac OS X installer CD/DVD or any kind of boot drive or recovery partiton, and without having an Apple ID. This is basically the be-all-end-all approach if nothing else works, because it’s guaranteed to get you back into a Mac when the other options are available, and it works in literally all versions of OS X. The steps may seem a little intimidating at first but I assure you it’s easy if you follow them exactly, here is exactly how to do this in three stages:
Stage 1) Boot into Single User Mode and remove a setup file
Restart the Mac holding down the Command+S keys, this will take you into Single User Mode and it’s Terminal interface
You’ll need to check the filesystem first:
        fsck -fy
Next, you must mount the root drive as writeable so that changes will save:
        mount -uw /
Now, type the following command exactly, followed by the enter key:
        rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
        reset forgot mac password
After removing the applesetupdone file, you need to reboot, type ‘reboot’ and hit enter
Stage 2) Create a New User Account upon System Boot
You aren’t finished, but the hard part is now over – no more command lines, you’ll now be in the familiar Mac OS X GUI to finish the password reset process. In this step we just create a new user account as if you just got a new Mac:
Upon reboot, you will be presented with the traditional “Welcome Wizard” startup screen just like when you first get a Mac
Follow the welcome wizard and create a new user account – making the account name different from the account whose password you want to recover
Continue on and boot into Mac OS X with this newly created user account, this new user account is an Administrator and has administrative access

  • How do you Install programs to one user account on a macbook pro?

I want to download programs to my user account on my laptop without the other peoples accounts having access to it. How do you specify only to download to this account, or change the settings of past installed programs to only be accessible to my account and not the others

As Csound1 has already pointed out create a folder in your Home folder for only those applications that you want exclusive access to like this one in my Home folder:
For those application that have an installer, you'll need to install and then move the app from the Applications folder to your own app folder.
