How can I transfer t.v. shows and movies from my laptop to my ipad?

They have to be in a compatible format first. Then all u hav to do is point itunes to the file, add it to the library, then just drag it to the ipad.

    The advertised number of songs an iPod can hold is based on set factors such as the encoding for each song and the length for each song.
    Transferring movies is selected under the Movies tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes.
    Transferring TV Shows is selected under the TV Shows tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes.
    Include Music Videos is selected under the Music tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes.

    You can't, unless you bought them from the iTunes Store on the Apple TV.
    The Apple TV can receive content only, it does not sync content back, except items that you have purchased on the Apple TV.

    Sorry, but movies cannot be downloaded more than once without charge, so if you don't have a viable backup, you may be out of luck. You can, however, contact the iTunes Store, explain the situation, and see if they can make an exception for you.

    You can copy iTunes purchases from your iPod to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) - if you have music from other sources (e.g. CDs) on your iPod which isn't on your computer nor on a backup then you will need to find a third-party program for your computer which can copy them off (some programs are listed half-way down this page).
    You can then take a backup of the iPod and restore that backup onto the iPad (as described on the Using iTunes section of the page that you posted from) and it should copy all of your iPod's content over - a backup doesn't contain music or the actual apps (just their content and settings) which is why you need to do the above 'transfer purchases' so that the restore can copy them onto the iPad.

    You didn't say if you had the iPad 1 or 2 or what iOS version your running. The syncing process is the same for either iPad and any iOS version. Download this user guild/ manual on how to sync the iPad, pages 23-28.

    If the music was imported from another location, you can search yahoo, google or which ever search engine you like and search for transfer from ipod.

    A recent move of countries lead to me nearly loosing my itunes and apps.  I have now managed to get them back - most of them, but only to my laptop.  I cannot find any instructions that enable me to download from my lap top to my current (and a new) ipad. All instructions seem to be geared towards to transfer the other direction - ie, ipad to laptop.

    A straightforward sync using iTunes on the computer and the iPad should place the data on your iPad.  That is actually the more common direction to move data.
    Hopefully you have no issues with Apple ID, etc.
