How to trovi from safari on iMac?

In trying to download Skype I have somehow managed to download and install trove. When i open safari it opens with trovi as a default screen instead of google.

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

You need to get rid of MacKeeper (Zeobit).  Do not use their uninstaller, follow the instructions here ...

When that is done there does not appear to be a lot wrong if you correct the red ink entries.
The 4Gb is sufficient for Yosemite though 6 or 8 Gb would be better.  You may find the download slow so be prepared.

  • Is there a good either discussion or website or something on printing from the iPad? I'd like to figure out how to print from Safari or email (comcast). Thx

I am having trouble - read can't - print from safari or email off my iPad. I can print from several printer apps I installed, so I know the iPad sees the printer, hp 8500. So how does one print something off safari or xfinity email.

    Read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
The HP 8500 is not one of the supported printers; the HP 8500A is one of the supported printers.

  • How to update from Safari 5.0.6 to Safari 6?

How to I update my browser from Safari 5.0.6 to Safari 6?  I have a MacBook Pro (2010 I think).  Mac OS X Version 10.5.8.  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  4 GB 1067 MHz DDDR3.

You need to upgrade the computer's OS; on your machine, it's probably best to go to Snow Leopard and then directly to Mavericks. Back up your data, click here, and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

  • How to print from safari on the ipad2?

I setup my printer on my wireless network and i was able to print a document using "pages".My dad was trying to print an attachment from his email in safari and after the print job was sent, the printer did nothing.I cant seem to print from safari.
The printer is a canon mg3170 which i already firmware update it to make it airprint compatible.

If the ad hoc printer mode is not available for the envy, there are some reasonably cheap ways to get a wifi network in your car.   A cheap router from best but will generate the wifi network.  Does not matter if you have Internet or not.  A ifi device will also work, and most/ all of them run on batteries.  Lastly, if you have a smart phone or I phone that generates a wifi hotspot, that may be enough to support the printing function.  ( I need to test my I phone later today to see if that works.)

  • How to go from Safari 5 to 4

Our daughter has an iBook with 10.5 and she hates the new Safari 5 and wants
me to install Safari 4 that worked. She claims the new Safari 5 is slow and will
not open web pages that Safari 4 worked all the time.
Where can I download Safari 4?

many, if not most problems with Safari 5 hanging when trying to reach a webpage, have been >cured by adding dns numbers in System Preferences-Network-Advanced-DNS
    try Opendns ones -
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    one on each line.
I think you may have the solution. I just recalled I was having fits my iMac and Entourage
mail until I added the same item you recommended. There is a really cool free utility from
Google called namebench http://code.google.com/p/namebench/ and it really works.
This was how I found out what needed to be added to my network preferences.
I will add the two addresses to my daughter's iBook. Something tell me this may fix
    the problem.
    Thanks for the suggestion!!!

  • Hard drive failure, how to transfer from ipod to imac

OK, my iMac G5 hard drive failed....I had no good backup of my iTunes library, except on my iPod mini.....so, I thought that all I had to do was copy my library from my mini to my iMac.
Problem is, I can't seem to do this. Can anyone help?

If you do a search on Version Tracker for iPod you will find many utilities to help you accomplish what you want to do.

  • How to downgrade from safari 7.0.4

I apologise in advance if this is a stupid question.
I recently installed Safari 7.0.4 on to my macbook and since I still use OSX 10.8 it didn't end up taking properly, now It won't even let me use the internet. I can't remember what version of Safari I was using before hand besides it was version 6.something.
Is there some way to simply downgrade to the version I was using before?
I'm not that tech savey, so again, I apologise if this a really newbie type question. Any help would be really appreciated.

How does one remove temporary files from Safari?  A friend logged on to her Facebook account using my iMac running Mac OSX 10.7.5 and Safari 6.1.6.  Now I can't remove her e-mail address from my computer.  When I open Facebook her address shows in the user button.  I do not have a Facebook account.  It was suggested to me that I try clearing temporary files from Safari but I can't find anything that tells me how to do this.  Are temporary files the same as the cache?  It also was suggested that I try clearing Safari cache.  How do I do that?

Check Safari/Preferences/Passwords to see if the Facebook account is there. If so, select it and remove it. If you are still having problems, Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. If that doesn't work, Safari/Reset Safari.

  • How do I copy my bookmarks from Safari on my iMac to my new iPhone 6?

How do I copy my bookmarks from Safari on my iMac to my new iPhone 6?

    Hello!
Here is the manual. iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer - Apple Support
    - Note that the manual presupposes you have Mountain Lion installed on your Mac, which is what it says in your message, so I'm assuming you have.
Also, I suppose you're not using iCloud. If you ARE using iCloud on your Mac and iPhone, I recommend using that for your bookmarks over USB-syncing. Here's the manual for that: iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Bookmarks and Reading List - Apple Support
    The relevant excerpt:
Turn iCloud Bookmarks off and back on:
    Quit Safari.
Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click the icon for iCloud.
If you are using OS X Mavericks or Mountain Lion, deselect the checkbox next to Safari. If you are using OS X Lion, deselect the checkbox next to Bookmarks.
Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
Open System Preferences and choose iCloud.
Select the checkbox next to Safari (or Bookmarks). Click Merge.
    Close System Preferences.
Open Safari and test to see if the issue is resolved.

  • Since the import feature is missing from the Firefox 9 File menu, how do I import my bookmarks from Safari on an iMac using Lion?

I don't know what to add to the question, which is quite specific. I downloaded Firefox 9, but cannot find the Import section on the File Menu, as in previous versions, and as in the help section in Firefox Help.

i had the same problem you describe. the simplest way i found to import my bookmarks from safari is to: with firefox open click on "bookmarks" then " show all bookmarks". you will get a folder titled "library". in the menu bar you will see a 5 pointed star. click on it to open the drop down box. one of the options is to "import data from another browser". then follow the instructions from there. this worked for me. hope this helps.

A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius  work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.  The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:
    MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)- What to do if migration is unsuccessful;
    MacBook Air- Migration Tips and Tricks;
MacBook Air- Remote Disc, Migration, or Remote Install Mac OS X and wireless 802.11n networks.
Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft.
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.
