How to turn a stored procedure with a parameter into table function?

Could someone please let me know how to turn the SP below into table-value function? I want to be able to run this function by using SELECT statements with the parameter. Thanks
CREATE

[dbo].[Transformation](@year
varchar(4))
AS
BEGIN
Declare@Q1
Varchar(100)=
'['+@year+'Q1'+']'
Declare@Q2
Varchar(100)=
'['+@year+'Q2'+']'
Declare@Q3
Varchar(100)=
'['+@year+'Q3'+']'
Declare@Q4
Varchar(100)=
'['+@year+'Q4'+']'
Declare@StrQuery
Varchar(1000)
Set@StrQuery

'+@Q1+'+'+'+'+@Q2+'+'+'+'+@Q3+'+'+'+'+@Q4+'
as [Amounts], ''Update'' as [Description]  From Export with (nolock)'
--Print @StrQuery
Exec(@StrQuery)
END

You cannot use dynamic SQL in user-defined functions.
Work around (not an ideal solution, it has problems): OPENQUERY.

  • How to call a Store Procedure with IN PARAMETER

    Hi, im new using Oracle 10G with Oracle SQL Developer, my cuestion is how to call a Store Procedure with IN PARAMETER, I tried the following without results
    SELECT * FROM procedure_name(parameter);
    PROCEDURE procedure_name(parameter);
    EXEC procedure_name(parameter);

    Hi,
    As Beijing said,
    EXEC procedure_name(parameter);
    CALL procedure_name(parameter);work for me.
    So does
    BEGIN
        procedure_name(parameter);
    END;Can you be more specific about what you're doing? That is, are you testing it in SQL Developer? Where are you entering the commands? Where are you looking for output? Do you get error messages? Does anything else (like "SELECT SYSDATE FROM dual;") work?

  • How to incorporate  a Stored procedure with ARD file (ADD ON)

    hi experts
    i created a SP  which is called by the following code.
    Dim GD As SAPbouiCOM.Grid
            Dim Query As String = "exec sp_Attendance_Report'" & vmonth & "','" & vyear & "'"
            GD = objForm.Items.Item("10").Specific
            GD.DataTable.ExecuteQuery(Query)
    while creating add on (ard file )how to incorporate   this stored procedure?
    thanks in advance

    Hello
    When the addon first time connect, you must check that the SP is exists or not exists in target database. If not exist, you may create it.
    sql to check the sp exists
    select 1 from sysobjects where name like 'sp_Attendance_Report'
    if this query returns 1 the sp is exists in the database, skip installation, if returns no records, you must install the sp via recordset by create procedure command.

  • Please help - Can not use stored procedure with CTE and temp table in OLEDB source

    Hi,
       I am going to create a simple package. It has OLEDB source , a Derived transformation and a OLEDB Target database.
    Now, for the OLEDB Source, I have a stored procedure with CTE and there are many temp tables inside it. When I give like EXEC <Procedure name> then I am getting the error like ''The metadata  could not be determined because statement with CTE.......uses
    temp table.
    Please help me how to resolve this ?

    you write to the temp tables that get created at the time the procedure runs I guess
    Instead do it a staged approach, run Execute SQL to populate them, then pull the data using the source.
    You must set retainsameconnection to TRUE to be able to use the temp tables

  • Call stored procedure with OUT parameter

    Hello,
    I have created a short-lived process. Within this process I am using the "FOUNDATION > JDBC > Call Stored Procedure" operation to call an Oracle procedure. This procedure has 3 parameters, 2 IN and 1 OUT parameter.
    The procedure is being executed correctly. Both IN parameters receive the correct values but I am unable to get the OUT parameter's value in my process.
    Rewriting the procedure as a function gives me an ORA-01460 since one of the parameters contains XML (>32K) so this is not option...
    Has someone been able to call a stored procedure with an OUT parameter?
    Regards,
    Nico

    Object is Foundation, Execute Script
    This is for a query, you can change to a stored procedure call. Pull the value back in the Java code then put into the process variable.
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    import javax.sql.DataSource;
    import java.sql.*;
    PreparedStatement stmt = null;
    Connection conn = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    try {
    InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("java:IDP_DS");
    conn = ds.getConnection();
    stmt = conn.prepareStatement("select FUBAR from TB_PT_FUBAR where PROCESS_INSTANCE_ID=?");
    stmt.setLong(1, patExecContext.getProcessDataLongValue("/process_data/@inputID"));
    rs = stmt.executeQuery();
    rs.next();
    patExecContext.setProcessDataStringValue("/process_data/outData", rs.getString(1));
    } finally {
    try {
    rs.close();
    } catch (Exception rse) {}
    try {
    stmt.close();
    } catch (Exception sse) {}
    try {
    conn.close();
    } catch (Exception cse) {}

  • Calling Oracle Stored procedure with OUT parameter from ODI

    Hi,
    I called an oracle stored procedure with following anonymous block in the ODI procedure.
    Declare
    Status varchar2(10);
    Begin
    OTM.DeleteTarget('E_KPI_TARGET_VALUE', Status);
    End;
    I want to capture the OUT parameter STATUS value in a project level variable.
    And based on its va;lue I would like to choose between 2 interfaces in my package.
    Please help me in doing this.

    Hi,
    For that kind of situation I commoly use:
    1) one step with:
    create or replace package <%=odiRef.getSchemaName("W")%>.pck_var
    Status varchar2(10);
    end;
    * transaction 9, for instance
    2) step
    Begin
    OTM.DeleteTarget('E_KPI_TARGET_VALUE', <%=odiRef.getSchemaName("W")%>.pck_var.Status);
    End;
    * transaction 9
    3) then, at an ODI variable, use a refresh like:
    select <%=odiRef.getSchemaName("W")%>.pck_var.Status from dual
    at same logical shema where the package was created.
    Does it make sense to you?

  • Calling Stored Procedure with CLOB parameter

    Hi,
    i have one procedure with IN parameter CLOB which is taking xml file and stored in one table column and this table column datatype is also CLOB. And this procedure called by .Net program but problem is when the file will come more than 32KB calling procedure failed. But as i know CLOB can stored up to 4GB data.
    Is that Limitation of oracle or .Net version
    please let me know the solution for that,
    Create Procedure Insert_File(P_XMLFILE IN CLOB)
    as
    begin
    insert into instances
    values(p_xmlfile);
    commit;
    end;
    regards,
    Madan

    Hi Thanks for your reply,
    Actually this procedure called by .net program and the XML file has passed in that parameter which come from some FTP(its inbound) and this files we are storing into above mentioned table.
    Error has come while calling stored procedure Through .net

  • How to call a Stored Procedure with a REF CURSOR output parameter

    I am looking forward an example that call a stored function/procedure with a REF CURSOR output parameter and get the result.
    In other words, I have a stored function/procedure that execute a SELECT statement using the OCI library and then it could get the values of each column and each row.
    I put a code snippet, it have only the main thing to call a simple stored procedure and print the name of each column of the cursor, but I couldn´t to print out the values in the table that call the stored procedure.
    I understand that the next step, it is to call a OCIStmtFetch.
    How to associate the cursor with the OCIStmtFetch?
    If you need more information, only tell me.
    I am using ANSI C with HP-UX Operative System (C for HP-UX) and Oracle 10g.

    Hi Mark,
    Thanks for your recommendations.
    I change the code with OCIDefineByPos, one for each parameter from cursor and then use the OCIStmtFetch.
    I don´t receive a error when call OCIDefineByPos, but when I call OCIStmtFetch receive a -1 error number.
    What is wrong with the code?
    The script is the same.
    I need your help!

  • How to execute a stored procedure with an out parameter ?

    Guys I am struggling with executing a stored procedure from sql plus.I mean my stored procedure has 2 input parameter and 1 out put parameter (status of the execution).
    MY_PROCEDURE(p_name in varchar2,p_age in number,p_status out varchar2)
    end my_procedure;
    When I say
    EXECUTE MY_PROCEDURE('manohar','Shetty');
    i get insufficient parameters errors.
    please help.

    EXECUTE isn't a valid PL/SQL construct. It's a SQL*Plus command. You don't want to put any SQL*Plus commands in a PL/SQL block.
    You can always execute a stored procedure purely through PL/SQL
    begin
      my_stored_procedure( x, y, z );
    end;SQL*Plus happens to give you the execute command so you can avoid the begin and end statements.

  • Sqlbase - how to run a stored procedure with SYSDATE argument

    Hi, everyone!
    I'm trying to execute a stored procedure :
    cstmt = con.prepareCall("{ call PR_MYPROCEDURE(?, SYSDATE-1, SYSDATE) }");
    cstmt.setInt(1,1);And i get and SqlException - java.sql.SQLException: prepareCall(): An unexpected character 'S' found.
    Is there any way to pass a SYSDATE like argument?

    the problem that for sqlbase current date function is SYSDATE'sqlbase' the database?
    I couldn't ensure that the syntax that you posted looks correct but it seems possible.
    That would suggest there is a driver problem.
    Best I can suggest is modify the proc so it expects nulls for two parameters and then it creates the expressions that you are passing. Or create java Timestamp values and pass those.

  • Trouble with calling a stored procedure with VARCHAR parameter from trigger

    Hi everybody,
    today I ran across a problem with stored procedures and triggers that try to call them. Background info: I want to log changes in certain tables to another table in a trigger, so I can replicate the changes to another (non-Oracle) database in an asynchronous way. As an example I have the first data table "bak_s3_berufliste" and the table to store the changes in is "bak_s3_change_request".
    DROP TABLE BAK_S3_BERUFLISTE;
    CREATE TABLE bak_s3_berufliste (
    id_bl NUMBER(27,0) NOT NULL,
    berufsbez VARCHAR2(255),
    CONSTRAINT PK_BAK_S3_BERUFLISTE PRIMARY KEY (id_bl) ENABLE);
    DROP TABLE bak_s3_change_request;
    CREATE TABLE bak_s3_change_request (
    ID_CR NUMBER(27,0) NOT NULL,
    TABELLE_NAME VARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL,
    TABELLE_ID_ALT NUMBER(27,0),
    TABELLE_ID_NEU NUMBER(27,0),
    CONSTRAINT PK_BAK_S3_CHANGE_REQUEST PRIMARY KEY (ID_CR) ENABLE);
    DROP SEQUENCE seq_bak_s3_change_request;
    CREATE SEQUENCE seq_bak_s3_change_request;
    For testing purposes I created the following stored procedure and trigger:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE schreibe_cr (t_id_alt IN NUMBER, t_id_neu IN NUMBER) IS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO bak_s3_change_request(ID_CR, TABELLE_NAME, TABELLE_ID_ALT, TABELLE_ID_NEU)
    VALUES (seq_bak_s3_change_request.NEXTVAL, t_name, t_id_alt, t_id_neu);
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trg_bak_s3_berufliste
    BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON bak_s3_berufliste
    FOR EACH ROW
    call schreibe_cr(:old.id_bl,:new.id_bl)
    *... and everything worked perfectly - except from the fact that I need to know which table had changed of course. So I added another parameter to the stored procedure:*
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE schreibe_cr (t_name IN VARCHAR2, t_id_alt IN NUMBER, t_id_neu IN NUMBER) IS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO bak_s3_change_request(ID_CR, TABELLE_NAME, TABELLE_ID_ALT, TABELLE_ID_NEU)
    VALUES (seq_bak_s3_change_request.NEXTVAL, t_name, t_id_alt, t_id_neu);
    END;
    and tested it:
    CALL schreibe_cr('Test',1,2);
    *... successfully. So I also added the parameter to the trigger:*
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trg_bak_s3_berufliste
    BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON bak_s3_berufliste
    FOR EACH ROW
    call schreibe_cr('Tabellenname',1,2)
    and what i get is:
    Error starting at line 31 in command:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trg_bak_s3_berufliste
    BEFORE INSERT OR UPDATE OR DELETE ON bak_s3_berufliste
    FOR EACH ROW
    call schreibe_cr('Tabellenname',1,2)
    When I try to insert something into that table I get the following error:
    insert into bak_s3_berufliste (id_bl, berufsbez) values (seq_bak_s3_change_request.NEXTVAL, 'tueduelue');
    Error report:
    ORA-00911: Ungültiges Zeichen
    00911. 00000 - "invalid character"
    Cause: identifiers may not start with any ASCII character other than
    letters and numbers. $#_ are also allowed after the first
    character. Identifiers enclosed by doublequotes may contain
    any character other than a doublequote. Alternative quotes
    (q'#...#') cannot use spaces, tabs, or carriage returns as
    delimiters. For all other contexts, consult the SQL Language
    Reference Manual.
    Action:
    I tried everything that came to my mind, like using double-quotes (") instead of quotes (') in the trigger code or escaping the quotes (\'), but nothing worked. Can anybody help my and tell me what's wrong? After googling for hours I'm outta ideas :-(
    Any ideas appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Jens
