How to update php

hello,
i'm using personal web sharing on os x, which still has PHP 4. i'd like to get version 5. can anyone tell me how to do this?

I have seen more folks fight to get Entropy's PHP ver5 working, and they have all given up.
Because they miss one piece of the instructions: they forget to go back into the Apache config file and disable the lines that enabled PHP 4 in the first place. Or they download the wrong version of PHP 5 for the version of Apache they have.
Otherwise, I think it's a relatively simple update if you use Marc's installer package: make sure you download the version for APache 1.3 if you're using the stock Apache that came with your Mac. And make sure you comment out these two lines in the Apache config file:
#LoadModule php4_module libexec/httpd/libphp4.so
#AddModule mod_php4.c
Those two lines don't appear together, by the way, but you can just search for them and make sure they have the "#" at the beginning.
The final step is that once you comment out the lines and install PHP5, you have to restart the Apache server. Some people forget that, too.

That sounds Apple do not seriously release updates of third party packages shipped with the system (like Apache, mySQL ...) very often.
To use month or year old packages in a web environment is a big risk, e.g. mySQL actual official version is V5.50 / mySQL Version shipped and updated by Mac OS X 10.6.2 Server is V5.0.82).
The same with Apache and PHP, both are packages included in Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server product by Apple and are included in a old version.
And when manually updates by the administrator of the server system do not work well or are not supported by the OS X Server system (as I understand your posting), the administrator can not act to improve and secure the system.
That can only lead to one conclusion: Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server should not be used in a productive, internet faced web environment.
Is this true? I do not want to believe this!?
Is there really no official supported or documented procedure by Apple to keep the integrated third party components updated?
I'd like to prefer Mac OS X Server odd Linux distribution because it seems more handy to administrate and to use, e.g. tools like Server Admin. These tools are an advantage of Mac OS X Server.

Update PHP

Running OS 10.6.7 on Xserve 2.26 Ghz quad core Xeon, apache version 2.2.17 and PHP 5.3.4, serving FileMaker Pro via FM Server 11.0.3
I've been asked by security folks to upgrade to PHP 5.3.6 if possible. Best method? Worth the trouble? I am concerned that if I do manual install from source PHP download that 1) it may break FileMaker PHP and 2) Apple upgrades may break the install.
Any experience or advice?

Google around for some information on updating PHP; this question gets asked fairly regularly, and folks have managed this with varying degrees of success. (For some of those existing discussions, see: here, here, here, here, and here)
If you roll this change yourself, you're basically doing a full upgrade of all of the bits, performing a differences of the existing version of php within OS X and reimplementing whatever Apple added or changed within that previous updates, and then debugging it all. That's either you implementing the update yourself or (if it's sufficiently current) maybe downloading and updating via MacPorts or another packaged version.
And in any case and irrespective of how you update php, once you upgrade this stuff, you own it. You own additional security fixes and updates, anything that might go wrong when something (else) encounters the new php and tips over (web services, Filemaker, etc), and (hopefully, eventually) backing out the php updates if/when Apple ships a newer version and you then want (need?) to revert to the installed version.
There's a decent chance that problems can crop up after a php or other similar update of the integrated tools, so definitely have a complete full-disk backup made by booting the installation DVD and using Disk Utility, or some other similar approach. That's your path back out, if (when?) something blows up.
The other approach is to request a waiver from your "security folks", pending an Apple-provided security or system update. That's usually the easiest approach.

How to update the PHP Class Service back in Flash Builder 4

I'm not sure if my post title makes any sense or not but let me explain. I've been working on an application in Flash Builder 4 using the ZendFramework and PHP services and everything is work great. the problem I have is after I make changes to my services PHP class (edit php file that has my functions in it), how to I updated those functions in the Flash builder application?
For example, I needed to pass a second object into one of my function in my PHP class and after I edited the file and saved it, I don't see the changes in the Flash builder 4 application. Is there a button I can run to update the PHP class back in Flash Builder?

How do you use Flash Builder to regenerate the code for the same PHP service I connected to prior? When I first connected to the PHP service Flash Builder automatically built a package with all kinds of actionscript functions in it. I added a function to my PHP Class file server side and I need help on how to update the package back in Flex to see my new function. Can anyone help me??

Does anyone know how to update/recompile PHP to include IMAP?

I've just installed phplist (http://www.phplist.com/), which is a newsletter mailer based on php. Some of the features require that IMAP be installed with the php installation. Evidently Apple's OSX install does not include IMAP in PHP by default, but presumably IMAP can be added if PHP is recompiled. (See http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.imap.php). I was planning on updating PHP using Alex's very helpful tutorial, available at http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/category/4/18/62/, and at the same time adding IMAP.
Altho Alex does not touch on IMAP in his tutorial, I believe that to includ IMAP in the PHP installation, the configuration string must include "--with-imap-ssl=/sw --with-imap=/usr/share/c-client", or something similar. In any event, it seems that "c-client" does not live in /usr/share nor anywhere on my system, so I have not attempted an installation so far.
Does anyone know how to update/recompile PHP to include IMAP? And if "c-client" is required, how do I intall that first?

Disregard last post--that was a non-starter, but I think I have a successful installation, which I will post here as the documentation on this from php and from phplist is pretty bad:
First get and compile the c-client library, which is necessary for those wanting to run phplist:

Finally install php (cheers to Alex) as follows:

One last question, Alex: can I safely delete the SourceCache folder now that the installation is complete? My only concern is that the config string points to items in the folder, and I'm wondering whether I ought to have placed them inside /usr/share instead of SourceCache, or doesn't it make a difference?

How to update Spry-table and present the updated table in a div element?

I am using a very interesting AJAX-framework called Spry when designing a web page. Here the web page is: Link.
I need some help.
Every time a new project or shift is added, the changes are written to an xml-file. When the page is reloaded, Spry reads data from xml-files.
This is caused by this code:

I call this function that I have written: loadProjectsIntoDivElement ().

It iterates through the Spry-datastructure and puts the data in a table inside of the div-element called 'projectsList'.
Now, when I add a new project, I want it to be inserted into the Spry-datastructure and then cause the new data to be written into the div element called 'Specials_DIV'.
I have found out how to update a Spry-datastructure (e.g. dsProjects above), but I don't know how to update the table containing the data without refreshing the page. This should be done using Spry.

I don't succeed with the implementation in any browser.
I have found a way to it, but I would like a way that updates the data quicker and without reloading all of the page. After all, I am only adding one row on the end of the data structure, so there should be no need to read in all data again.
Now I do it like this:
When a project is added, do this:
1. Store a new row in the project file through a php script.
2. When the post-call to the php-file returns, do refresh of the whole page.
Then the newest version of the xml file will be read in.
However, I don't want to read the data from a xml file each time that a new project is created.
I know how to add the new data to a Spry-datastructure [in my code 'dsProjects'], but I don't know how to display the updated data without reloading the whole page.
I have tried some various ways to do it, but haven't succeded.

you can load image files into your swf dynamically but you can't easily change swf library items dynamically.
how you use php depends on whether you're using as2 (use loadvars) or as3 (use the urlloader class). how you use html depends on your actionscript version and what you're trying to do. if you want to open a html page in a browser window use getURL (as2) or navigateToURL (as3).

How to update ADF VO object to refresh the data in ADF Pivot table

I need to know how to update the View object so that the date in pivot table is refreshed/updated/filtered.
here are the steps I performed to create ADF pivot table application using VO at design time.
1) created a collection in a Data Control (ViewObject in an ApplicationModule) that provides the values I wanted to use for row and column labels as well the cell values (Used the SQL query)
2) Dragged this collection to the page in which wanted to create the pivot table
3) In the pivot table data binding editor specified the characteristics of the rows (which attribute(s) should be displayed in header), the columns (likewise) and the cells.
Now, I have a requirement to update/filter the data in pivot table on click of check box and my question is how to I update the View object so that the date in pivot table is refreshed/updated/filtered.
I have got this solution from one of the contact in which a WHERE clause on an underlying VO is updated based upon input from a Slider control. In essence, the value of the control is sent to a backing bean, and then the backing bean uses this input to call the "filterVO" method on the corresponding AppModule:

I have downloaded the latest pages update on my iPad, but my iMac still has Pages version 4.3, and I cannot find out how to update it on my desktop. When I try to send something from my iPad pages via email to be opened on my desktop in Pages, it won't open in Pages. I get a message that it can't be opened because the version is too old. I sent the document as a PDF and it worked. But I want to be able to use Pages back and forth. HOw do I update the Pages version on my desktop iMac?

The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.

I have to implement one badi ME_REQ_POSTED for purchase requistion, in this badi I have to read first line item and do
some check...if that check is true i need to update subsequent line item (line 20, 30, 40 or so) with purchase group and MRP controller.
In this BADI i have method POSTED, in this method parameter IM_EBAN is a table which i need to modify with my different
values for purchase group and MRP controller.
Kindly let me know how to update this table, so the changes can be reflected in purchase requistion.
Since when I tried to directly modify the table in a loop, system throw one error stating IM_EBAN can not be modified.

As you're misusing the valueChangeListener to set another input field, you need to skip the update model values phase. Otherwise the value set in the valueChangeListener will be overridden by the submitted value. You can do this by calling the FacesContext#renderResponse() inside the valueChangeListener method. This will shift the current phase immediately to the render response phase, hereby skipping the update model values and invoke application phases.
