How to use mapviewer

Hello, Im a newbie to Oracle and java..
Well, I'd like to build a Map Viewer.
How can I build an application using Map Viewer in it?
What tool should I use?
I have read the demos and I have done the tutorials in http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/bulldog/dvt_graph/gant_chart_pivot_table.htm (it's about how create a geographic map using ADF)
but it seems that tutorial can create a map by passing a URL MapViewer parameter (http://elocation.oracle.com/mapviewer/)
I really want to build an application with a map in it and do a little programming with the map..
can anyone help me?
thank you very much.

Hi, you should use the mapviewer quickstart kit. Install it on you machine (just unzip) and use the oracle maps demos. There are plenty of samples to build your own mapviewer/maps application.

  • How to use MapViewer API?

    Hi,
    I have a problem that is acturally regarded to java programming. I want to use MapViewer JavaBean-Based API. I did the preparing work described in Mapviewer doc §4.2.
    I saved the demo jsp page "mapclient.jsp" in my own application folder (under oc4j\j2ee\home\default-web-app). The other jsp pages written by myself can be displayed. But this mapclient.jsp can not be retrieved. "HTTP 500 internal server error The page cannot be displayed." It seems that I don't have J2EE container that contains the MapViewer service.
    I also changed the codes of mapclient.jsp. I use
    import oracle.spatial.mapclient.MapViewer;
    MapViewer mv = new MapViewer("http://localhost ...");
    It does not work, either. "The page cannot be displayed."
    I don't know how to invoke the MapViewer service. I use oc4j standalone. I don't know how to get the error message, either.
    I hope somebody can give me some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    about the addDataSource using the Java API, for now you have to disable the security
    in order to add the data source using the MapViewer client API.
    You can do that editing the MapViewer config file:
    <mv_security enforce_sec_role="false" />
    Assuming that you have added your data source, and you have rendered some map,
    you can get the attribute information using the "identify" methods of the
    MapViewer client API.
    1) To identify one individual geometry:
    String [][] result = mapviewer.identify(dataSource,table_name,columns,
    geometry_column,srid, x, y);
    where: "columns" contains the table attribute names that
    you want to retrieve
         x,y represents the device coordinate.
    2) To identify geometries inside a rectangle:
    String [][]result = mapviewer.identify(dataSource,table_name,columns,
    geometry_column,srid, xlowleft,ylowleft,
    xupright,yupright,false);
    where the rectangle coordinates are defined by xlowleft,ylowleft,
    xuprigth, and yuprigth values in device unit.
    3) The resulted String array contains on the first row the attribute
    names, and on the remaining rows the attribute values for each geometry.
    int nlin = result.length; // return the number of lines
    int col = result[0].length; // number of columns
    To get the attribute names:
    // attribute names
    Object []tableattrs = new Object[ncol];
    for(int j=0;j<ncol;j++)
    tableattrs[j] = result[0][j];
    To get the attribute values:
    Object [][]tablevalues = new Object[nlin-1][];
    for(int lin=1;lin<nlin;lin++)
    tablevalues[lin-1] = new Object[ncol];
    for(int col=0;col<ncol;col++)
    tablevalues[lin-1][col] = result[lin][col];

  • How to use mapviewer extension for jdevelop?

    I am working on the mapviewer. But my problem is that I can not connect mapviewer, or I can not start mapviewer using the embedded oc4j by jdeveloper. In mapviewer faq I read that:
    "How do I view the mapping metadata through JDeveloper's Connections Navigator?
    We have developed an Oracle JDeveloper extension that lets you browse the available list of styles, themes and basemaps defined in a datasource through JDeveloper's Connections Navigator. To do this, you will first need to download the mvconnection.jar file from OTN's MapViewer site. This jar contains the code that defines a MapViewer connection type for JDeveloper. To install, simply drop this jar file to the JDeveloper extension directory, normally $JDEV_HOME/jdev/lib/ext. Then restart JDeveloper, and you are all set.
    But when I restart jdeveloper, I got the message:
    "H:\Programme\jdev\jdev\lib\ext\mvpalette.jar!\META-INF\jdev-ext.xml
    Error: jar:file:/H:/Programme/jdev/jdev/lib/ext/mvpalette.jar!/META-INF/jdev-ext.xml<Line 105, Column 18>: XSD-2021: (Error) Element not completed: 'jsplibrary'

    I use Jdeveloper 10g. Have you ever met the same problem?
    Thanks in advance

    The Map Viewer extension is still not available for JDeveloper 10g. It works with JDeveloper 9.
    The Mapping group is currently working on an upgrade.

  • Using MapViewer from PL/SQL vs Java

    Hi group!
    The MapViewer User's Guide has this to say about using MapViewer from PL/SQL:
    "The usage model for the SDO_MVCLIENT package is almost identical to that of
    MapViewer JavaBean-based API" etc etc .. "For usage and reference information about specific functions or procedures, see the description of the associated JavaBean-Based API. methods and interfaces in Chapter 4"
    If I don't misunderstand the basic concept, in a Java Web App (using the MapViewer Bean) you create a MapViewer object for each HTTP-user-session, like so:
    MapViewer mv = new MapViewer("http://my_corp.com:8888/mapviewer/omserver");
    ... which you would then store in the user's session object, so that the MapViewer Bean conveniently holds the map's state on the user's behalf.
    To do the equivalent in PL/SQL, the User's Guide suggests:
    "connect scott/tiger
    call sdo_mvclient.createmapviewerclient(
    'http://www.mycorp.com:8888/mapviewer/omserver') ;
    The preceding example creates, in the current session, a unique MapViewer client
    handle to the MapViewer service URL"
    Does "current session" refer to the HTTP-user-session? While I've used PL/SQL before, I've not used the PL/SQL Web Toolkit. Is the session handling implicit here (and invisible?) or should the sdo_mvclient be subsequently stored in the PL/SQL equivalent of a (J2EE) HttpSession object?
    YT

    Part of the answer will depend on how you plan to deploy the application. If you have a few, local clients you could go with the traditional client/server model. If you have a lot of clients and/or they are spread out over a relatively large area (like a campus setting), a web front-end will save you a lot of hassels down the road when it comes time to upgrade.
    Regardless of the the front end, I can tell you that I have been greatly impressed with the throughput you can get by moving most of the code to PL/SQL packages. A few years ago we reworked a VB/Oracle app by moving a lot of the code out of VB and into packages, leaving the client to essentially call procedures and format the output. We had more than a 3x performance increase on the same hardware and our network utilization decreased noticably.
    I am now in the process of replacing the client code with Java servlets/JSP, primarily because of the maintenance hassles I mentioned earlier. There are some limitations with an HTML page but most of these have been cosmetic so far.
    We are still relying heavily on PL/SQL packages. The servlet code basically gets a request, calls a package to get the data, then hands the results to a JSP page. The JSP then formats the output and sends it to the client. We are little more than halfway through the re-write, but it appears performance will increase again. Not as noticably as before, but I will take what I can get. As you have seen, once something is rolled out it always ends up getting used more than you anticipated. Better to over-engineer now than have to patch it once it is live.

  • How to use the function pan() of JavaAPI?

    public boolean pan(int x, int y) throws java.lang.Exception
    Pans to the specified device point.
    Parameters:
    x - the x of the user's mouse click
    y - the y of the user's mouse click
    Returns:
    true if the pan operation completed successfully
    Throws:
    java.lang.Exception
    I don't know how to use it to move the map, and i can't find any example. Could anyone show me a simple example?
    Thanks very much for your help!

    The following is extracted from the API doc.
    void pan(<int> x, <int> y)
    This methods pans the map. The panning offset is specified by screen pixels on vertical and horizontal directions.
    Parameters:
    x - the panning offset in pixels on horizontal direction. A positive value pans the map to the right and a negative value pans the map to the left.
    y - the panning offset in pixels on vertical direction. A positive value pans the map downward and a negative value pans the map upward.
    For example, mapview.pan(500, 0) pans the map to the right by 500 pixels.

  • Using mapviewer

    I am currently doing a project namely "LOCATION BASED SERVICES AND PROXIMITY ANALYSIS". It's basically a GIS through which users can query the desired objects (SCHOOLS,HOTELS,ATMs etc) that are close to there location.The response is in the form of a map.
    I am using mapviewer as a middle tier redering tool.
    Would anyone plz help me that:
    *in which format do we load maps i.e do we define long/lat of every object in the database and if this is the case than how do we define long/lat information of roads rivers and etc or do we load images in the data base and if this is the case than in which formatt we have to load images in database.
    *how do we define spatial data that is to be used by mapviewer.
    regards

    MapViewer uses Oracle Locator/Oracle Spatial to store, index, and query spatial data. If you look at the Oracle Spatial User's Guide it will show you how to load geometry data (long/lat is fine) and index it.
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • How to integrate mapviewer in obiee 11g?

    Hi ,
    May i ask you how to configure mapviewer in oracle business intelligence ( i have already installed it)?

    check this
    The Port number is the AdminServer Port Number of the domain. This is where the EM app will be targetted and deployed. If you choose all defaults and have like a Simple Installation of BI Software, then you should have one Server named AdminServer running at default Port: 7001.
    To really confirm exactly, open you config.xml file which is under your domain root folder/config/config.xml file. Search for "em.ear" and see to which server it is targetted, generally it will be AdminServer (<target> tag entry). Now from the top search for "AdminServer" in the same file. You should see an entry like shown below. SSL Port is 7002. If you do NOT see <listen-port> tag, it means it is using DEFAULT Port which is 7001. But if you do see this tag, use that port number. Do not get confused with <ssl> port. Every domain have normal and ssl ports and most of the times we use normal port.
    <server>
    <name>AdminServer</name>
    <idle-connection-timeout>1000</idle-connection-timeout>
    <period-length>200000</period-length>
    <idle-periods-until-timeout>20</idle-periods-until-timeout>
    <dgc-idle-periods-until-timeout>21</dgc-idle-periods-until-timeout>
    <ssl>
    <name>AdminServer</name>
    <hostname-verification-ignored>true</hostname-verification-ignored>
    <listen-port>7002</listen-port>
    </ssl>
    <machine>RJEGGA</machine>
    <listen-address></listen-address>
    <server-diagnostic-config>
    <name>AdminServer</name>
    <diagnostic-context-enabled>true</diagnostic-context-enabled>
    </server-diagnostic-config>
    </server>
    So, try, http://youradminserverhost:adminserverport/em
    NOW, if you get like Page Not Found, or do not see entry from em.ear file in your config.xml file, this means your domain is not having EM app deployed.
    How to know the Em url in OBIEE 11g

  • How to deploy mapviewer.ear at tomcat

    Hi,
    I have read the thread "how to deploy mapviewer at tomcat" and I understand which jar files I have to add to tomcat to have meet the requirements of oracle, but I am still confused how to deploy mapviewer.ear file at tomcat. Can somebody tell me how to do it step by step or give me some useful links about this topic?
    Your generous help will be appreciated!
    Peifang

    Hi Andrejus,
    In our department, we have oracle application server licence. I am trying to do as you told me, but I still have a question. I extracted mapviewer.ear file which includes a file named web.war. Is it right that I copy this war file directly into /webapps of TOMCAT or do I have to change something in this war file? In this procedure when can I provide the licence of oracle application server?
    Thank you and Best Regards!

  • Can't figure out how to use home sharing

    Since the latest couple iTunes updates, my family and I can not figure out how to use home sharing. Everyone in our household has their own iTunes, and for a long time we would just share our music through home sharing. But with the updates, so much has changed that we can no longer figure out how to use it.
    I have a lot of purchased albums on another laptop in the house, that im trying to move it all over to my own iTunes, and I have spent a long time searching the internet, and everything. And I just can't figure out how to do it. So.... how does it work now? I would really like to get these albums from my moms iTunes, onto mine. I would hate to have to buy them all over again.
    If anyone is able to help me out here, that would be great! Thanks!

    The problem im having is that after I am in another library through home sharing, I can't figure out how to select an album and import it to my library. They used to have it set up so that you just highlight all of the songs you want, and then all you had to do was click import. Now I don't even see an import button, or anything else like it. So im lost... I don't know if it's something im doing wrong, or if our home sharing system just isn't working properly.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How to use the same POWL query for multiple users

    Hello,
    I have defined a POWL query which executes properly. But if I map the same POWL query to 2 portal users and the 2 portal users try to access the same page simultaneously then it gives an error message to one of the users that
    "Query 'ABC' is already open in another session."
    where 'ABC' is the query name.
    Can you please tell me how to use the same POWL query for multiple users ?
    A fast reply would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Batch processing usually involves using actions you have recorded.  In Action you can insert Path that can be used during processing documents.  Path have some size so you may want to only process document that have the same size.  Look in the Actions Palette fly-out menu for insert path.  It inserts|records the current document work path into the action being worked on and when the action is played it inserts the path into the document as the current work path..

  • How to use airport time capsule with multiple computers?

    I'm sure there are some thread about this but i couldn't find it... so sorry for that but hear me out! =)
    I bought the AirPort Time Capsule to back up my MBP
    And so i did.
    then i thought "let give this one a fresh start" so i erased all of it with the disk utility and re-installed the MBP from the recovery disk.
    I dont want all of the stuff i backed up just a few files and some pictures so i brought that back.. so far so good.
    Now i want to do a new back up of my MBP so i open time machine settings, pick the drive on the time capsule and then "Choose" i wait for the beck up to begin, and then it fails.  It says (sorry for my bad english, im swedish haha) "the mount /Volume/Data-1/StiflersMBP.sparsebundle is already in use for back up.
    this is what i want:
    i want the "StiflersMBP.sparsebundle" to just be so i can get some stuf when i need them. it's never to be erased.
    i want to make a new back up of my MBP as if it's a second computer...
    so guys and girls, what is the easiest and best solution?
    Best regards!

    TM does not work like that.
    If you want files to use later.. do not use TM.
    Or do not use TM to the same location. Plug a USB drive into the computer and use that as the target for the permanent backup.
