How to use value returned from a bean in jsp page

Hi All,
I have a string array value being returned from a javabean to a jsp page. I want to be able to assign the value to a variable in the jsp page.
How do I do this?
Many thanks :)

thanks for your response.
I actually used something like this:
<% String loggedin = log.User(user,password);
out.println(loggedin);
%>i am not yet as much of an expert on beans as i would like to be, but i thought it is not really a bean if it has a getter method which takes arguments?

  • Calling function from Backing Bean or JSP page

    We are on Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3.0, ADF Faces, JSF Faces .., Currently there is a function call from Javascript event (onmouseover) in the JSP page. I want to call this function from a backing bean or JSP page, as I have to pass some values to this function.
    For Ex., I have a function call like return submit('A','B','Test'); on the Javascript event (onmouseover) in jsp page. I want to remove this function from the javascript event and call from backing bean or jsp page to pass some values into the submit() function. I appreciate if anyone can give some example of how to call this function from backing bean or jsp page in the <SCRIPT> or <SCRIPTLET>
    Thanks,
    Ram

    A use case would be helpful so that we can get a better idea of what you want to do.
    As a general rule, there is no way to call a client side Javascript function from a backing bean, which is server side. However, there are ways to inject information from a backing bean into your Javascript call. For instance, I have an application that uses Google Maps API. It has an onload call to a Javascript function that builds the map and designates it's center point. The center point comes from a backing bean as latitude and longitude properties. So here is my body tag:
    <afh:body onload="initialize(#{backing_searchResults.latitude},#{backing_searchResults.longitude},#{searchCriteria.distance})"
              onunload="GUnload()">onload calls the Javascript function called initialize, and passes the latitude, longitude, and distance from the bean. Is the function really being called from my backing bean? No - the parameters are hard coded into the onload event code when the page is rendered. Does it do the job? Sure it does.

  • H:inputText ; How To initialize value Property from back/bean method?

    Hello Guys at Sun Forums.
    I am a newbie at using JSF. and I'm having a bit of a Problem.
    I don't know how to initialize the value property of a h:inputText from a method inside a backing bean that returns a String data type.
    My Method inside the Backing bean is this:
    public String getLastDate()
            Connection con = null;
            Statement stmt = null;
            ResultSet rs = null;
            Date DateCapt = null;
            String DateConv= null;
            try{
                Class.forName("com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDrive").newInstance();
                con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sybase:Tds:localhost/BAN_PRO_SNP", "xxxx", "xxxx");
                if(!con.isClosed()){
                    stmt = con.createStatement();
                    stmt.executeQuery ("SELECT TOP 1 CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), fec_parametro, 103) fec_parametro FROM snp_sei_parametros" +
                    "     WHERE cod_parametro = 'FECHA'" +
                    "     ORDER BY fec_parametro DESC");
                    rs = stmt.getResultSet();
                    while (rs.next())
                                DateCapt = rs.getDate("fec_parametro");
                rs.close();
                stmt.close();
            catch (Exception ex)
                        System.out.println("COULD NOT LOAD THE DRIVER!!!!");
                        System.out.println(ex);
                    DateConv = String.valueOf(DateCapt).toString();
        return DateConv;
    }As you can see the Method returns a String data type, and all I want to know is how put that returned String as the initial value of a h:inputText. when the jsf-jsp page loads.
    Please Help Me.

    You should be able to do
       <h:inputText value="#{bean.lastDate}"/>Where 'bean' is the managed bean name containing
    the method getLastDate().
    When the view is rendered, the getter (getLastDate())
    will be called to display whatever value is returned.

  • How to use one ResultSet many times in a jsp page ?

    Hi all,
    I have .jsp page and I have used it to get data from DB and display them to users. So I have to get data from DB in number of places in this particular jsp.
    I thought that it is better to have one ResultSet for entire page and once it is done its job, the ResultSet will be closed and I can use it again and again like this.
    Resultset rs = new ResultSet();
    try{
        //My operations
    }catch(Exception ex){
       //Handle Exceptions
    }finally{
       rs.close();
    }After above code snippet I can use same ResultSet again below the page.
    I just want to know this,
    1. is this a good coding practice?
    2. Should i put rs = null; within finally clause?
    any help will be appreciated
    thank in advance,
    Dilan.

    Ok, Finally I switched my coding to use DAO and DTO, and I learned it through internet.
    I removed all of data access codes from my jsp file(lets say 'functions.jsp'). I then created one interface and two clasess.
    here is my DAO interface.
    public interface UserFunctionsDAO{
        public List<UserFunctionsDTO> selectUserList();
    }here is DTO class
    public class UserFunctionsDTO{
        private String category = "";
        private String sub_category = "";
        private int cat_id = 0;
        private int sub_cat_id = 0;
        public UserFunctionsDTO(){}
        public UserFunctionsDTO(String category, String sub_category, int cat_id, int sub_cat_id){
            this.category = category;
            this.sub_category = sub_category;
            this.cat_id = cat_id;
            this.sub_cat_id = sub_cat_id;
        //Setters and getters will go here.
    }my concrete data access class is like this.
    public class UserFunctionsDataAccess implements UserFunctionsDAO{
        MyDB dbObject = null;
       private static final String SQL_GET_DISTINCT_CAT= "SELECT DISTINCT cat FROM cat_table";
       public List<UserFunctionsDTO> selectUserList(){
           dbObject = new MyDB();
           dbObject.sqlSelect(SQL_GET_DISTINCT_CAT);
           ResultSet rs = dbObject.getResultSet();
           ArrayList list = new ArrayList();
           while(rs.next()){
               list.add(new UserFunctionsDTO(rs.getString('category'), .......................));
           return list;
    }I think now im following good coding practices, but I have one problem.
    1. How do I retrieve this userlist from my jsp page?
    2. Should I include UserFunctionsDTO in my jsp page as a bean?
    3. If I include it, how can I get the list from it?
    thanks in advance,
    Dilan.

  • How to access a variable from a dynamically included JSP page

    I have a jsp (say main.jsp) using the following in its code :
    <jsp:include page="menu.jsp" flush="true" />
    I have a variable in menu.jsp which I would like to use in my main.jsp.
    How do I get the value of the variable defined in menu.jsp ?
    I called this variable in menu.jsp, Public, but this didnot help me use the value of that variable in main.jsp
    Any help is highly appreciated.. thnks a lot

    I do notice the variable var1 has the value populated - in menu.jsp - (from View -->
    Source in the browser) but for some reason not able to use it in main.jspI'm not quite sure of the way your jsps are structured from your code snippet but I think there is something to be aware of here that may be part of your problem, namely the difference between the include directive and the include action.
    You are currently using the include action, this treats the included resource as a dynamic object - i.e. a request is sent to that resource and the resulting response is included in your page. So when you think of what there is no java variable actually included - you'll just get the resulting HTML that is generated by menu.jsp
    The include directive, as in <%@include file=menu.jsp %>, on the other hand treats the resource as a static object. This means the actual bytes in the included resource are inserted into the including jsp and then the result of that is compiled and processed, effectively you are cutting and pasting the menu.jsp into your calling jsp. In this case the variable would be available to the calling jsp.
    However this approach does bring other difficulties that may break your current code, you'll just have to try it and see what happens.
    Hope that's relevant to your problem,
    Matt

  • Using values returned from SQL for Report column names

    I am building reports against our TFS development db.
    One of the reports tracks days spent (Dwell Time) in various status categories (eg: New, Assigned, In Development, Hold, etc) for a given "ticket".
    For a fixed list of values from {Work Item].System_State, I can send the results (days in Assigned) to the column named (Assigned) for each status for each event in the [Work Item History], and then sum them for each ticket as:
    Ticket ID      New          Assigned       InDev       etc
    1230001        2                  0                 0          ...
    1230001        0                  1                 2          ....
    SUM            2                    1                2         ....
    However, I have many different Projects, each of which use their own Status names.
    I don't want to duplicate the same basic report, if I can avoid it.
    How can I name and generate this data for the unique Status list for each Project?
    Simplest analog is:  name = First(Fields!Status.Value, "TFSdb")
    and allows value for a column name (category) as: =IIF(Fields!Status.Value = First(Fields!Status.Value, "TFSdb"), Fields!Days.Value, 0)
    However this fails beause:
    1. It only delivers the FIRST status value, and,
    2. I cannot SUM an expression which is itself an aggregate (using First).

    RRapport,
    Is this still an issue?
    Thanks!

  • Can I use the value returned from a Text Function in another Formula?

    I'm writing a report in Hyperion System 9 BI + Financial Reporting Studio version 9.2. I have 2 grids in my report.
    Grid1 Column A is set up as a text function using the function type - <<GetCell("Grid2", 1, a, 1)>>. I would like to use the values returned from this text function in Column A (Grid 1) in a formula in Column B (Grid 1).
    Is it possible to use the values returned in Column A of the text function in another formula? My report does not seem to recognize Column A as numerical values, even though the values to be returned are numerical.
    If so, how do I recognize the values in Column A Grid 1 as numerical values and not text?
    Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Hi Edson,
    Yes you need to use the CALC_ERROR macro function to be able to test whether the last macro function returned an error. CALC_ERROR will return an 'X' if there an error occured during the execution of the last macro function.
    You can use a macro similar to the following:
    IF
      CALC_ERROR( )
      = 'X'
          DO SOMETHING HERE
    ENDIF
    Let me explain how this works internally. The SAP system maintains a global variable g_flg_calc_error during the execution of macros in the planning book. The g_flg_calc_error variable will contain the value of f_calc_error that was set by the last macro function which executed. The ABAP coding of a planning book is something like this:
    data: g_flg_calc_error type /SAPAPO/FLAG.
    * SAP will pass g_flg_calc_error variable to all macro
    * functions. When SAP calls a macro function, it does
    * something like this.
    call function '/SAPAPO/MACRO_FUNCTION_HERE'
            exporting
              plob_values      = i_s_adv_plob_values
              sdp_book         = g_c_advf_sdp_book
              sdp_view         = g_c_advf_sdp_view
            tables
              cols_index       = i_t_cols
              value_tab        = l_t_value_tab
            changing
              f_calc_error     = g_flg_calc_error
    As you can see, the g_flg_calc_error variable
    is passed in the "changing" part of the call. The macro  function being called can then use the f_calc_error
    variable to change the value of the global
    g_flg_calc_error variable. In fact, the macro function being called can also check (by looking at the f_calc_error variable) if the last macro function reported an error.  The CALC_ERROR macro function just checks the value of f_calc_error parameter (w/c in fact is the value of the g_flg_calc_error variable) and returns "true/X" if the f_calc_error was set to true by the last macro function.
    Hope this helps in clearing things out

  • How to use budget amount from previous years

    Dear Values Consultant
    How to use budget amount from previous years
    I create budget for 2007 and I use it .in 2008 I create new budget with new amount for account, but still there are amount from 2007-I want to use or transfer it to 2008,
    How to do this? Please give me details step to implement to this feature
    Thanks for caring

    Hi,
    There are two ways to do it:
    1. Define the account range in your Budget Organization and in the Budgetary Control region, out the Amount Type as "PJTD" and Boundary as "Project". This method is useful when you have project as a segment in your chart of accounts and the Budgets are defined for the full project.
    2. The Other way is to carry forward your funds available from last year. Go to Journals -> Generate -> Carry Forward and carry forward the balance for a certain range of account from one financial year to the next one.

There is no way to get any Japanese iPhone officially unlocked.

  • How can we  use java variable in javascript code on JSP page?

    How can we use java variable in javascript code on JSP page?
    Pls help

    Think about it:
    JSP/Java is executed on the Server and produces HTML+JavaScript.
    Then that HTML+JavaScript is transfered to the client. The client now interpretes the HTML+JavaScript.
    Obviously there's no way to access a Java variable directly from JavaScript.
    What you can do, however, is write out some JavaScript that creates a JavaScript variable containing the value of your Java variable.
