How to - user profile migration 6.0 -- 6.0

How to - user profile migration 6.0 --> 6.0
We have an existing 6.0 portal deployed to a fairly large number of users internal to our company. We have been activly developing for our next release which includes tabs and a few new custom providers and channels. The question is what is the best/proper way to migrate the users profiles from one machine to another?
The version upgrade will be taking place on a different machine than our existing portal deployment.
So:
v1.0 on machine A user customizations --> v1.1 on machine B
Can we just perform an ldiff export on machine A then import that into machine B, then deploy our changes?

IMO there is just one way that works:
- first step: look for running forms services (forms server or more), stop them
- second step: go to the registry, erase the whole key: hkey_local_machine/software/oracle
-delete the whole directory with forms.
Its brute force, I know; but it works within 5 minutes!!

but will that replace the use of using up data? (wifi & 3G)
It sounds as if you don't really understand what "using data" means. Data is not something different from WiFi and 3G, it's something sent over WiFi and 3G. Think of data as water and WiFi and 3G as types of pipes. Some apps need to send and receive data to work. That data can be sent or received in different ways. It can be sent over WiFi or 3G. Both official iPhone carriers in the U.S. have metered data plans. It's sounds as if you're talking about AT&T's 200 mb data plan. WiFi is not provided by your cellular carrier. You can have WiFi from your Internet Service Provider at home or you can access free WiFi at places like McDonalds or Starbucks or paid WiFi at places like airports.
If you have WiFi turned on on your phone and WiFi is available, the phone will default to WiFi. WiFi is faster than 3G and generally not metered, and is sometimes even free. If you are out of range of WiFi, you would be using 3G to send and receive your data. With a metered plan, you need to keep an eye on how much you are using because if you go over your allowance, you will be charged additional fees.

  • User Profile service in plain english

    Hello Experts,
could any one please explain in plain English how does User profile services recognize users on SharePoint even if am not configuring the user profile sync service? I mean how SharePoint displaying user display name ? can I get the manager of a logged in
user without using user profile sync service?
please do not answer with link. just I need someone to explain it in his words in plain English
    Thanks

When you log into SharePoint you give it a username and password, this might be automatic so you never notice it but it still happens in the background. The UPS then takes that username and creates a UPS entry for that account using information stored in
    Active Directory.
If you're not familiar with AD it's normally a generally accessible 'phone book' like collection of user data like username, first name, surname, email address, manager, department and what security groups they belong to.
If you configure the sync service this information is pulled through earlier in bulk rather than on-demand as users log in. You also get a lot more control over what data is used where and how.
It's slightly different if you're using Forms Based Authentication but that's another story.

  • I used the migration assistant to transfer files from my PC to my Mac but it recreated my user profile from the PC and I wanted to transfer the files to the new different user profile I've setup on the Mac. How can I transfer everything now?

I have an older Windows laptop and I am switching to a new MacBook Air. The main user on the Windows laptop is going to be different than the main user on the MacBook. I used the migration assistant to transfer data to the MacBook but it recreated the whole older profile on the new Mac when I just wanted to pull everything over into the new user profile I had already created on the new MacBook. How can I go about putting the data over into the new user profile and erasing the older other user profile it recreated? Would I erase the old user profile on the new Mac and start over with the migration assistant using some setting I missed that lets me pull the data over to the new main user on the MacBook? Or is there a way to rename the old user profile on the Mac to match what I want the new username/password to be somehow?
Or would it be best to back the data I really need from the old PC onto an external HD and then copy it over to the new Mac from the external HD?
Looking for advice on how to best go about this. On the old PC I had multiple profiles and it was awkward. On the new Mac I just want a single profile for the primary user and both users will just share the same user profile. I wasn't sure if the Migration Assistant only let you recreate entire profiles or if there was a way to just import data from the old PC's primary profile into the new Mac's new primary profile with some setting adjustment.
Data would be docs, pics, bookmarks, music. Fairly basic.
Thanks for any and all advice,
    -Crosscourier.

    Look in the /Users/ folder.

  • User Profiles are the wrong style after importing/migrating site collections from other SharePoint versions

I manage a couple of different version of SharePoint, which we are in the process of migrating to SharePoint 2013. I have a problem which I am not sure how to resolve. We are using MetaLogix to migrate site and site collection data from an older SharePoint
2007/WSS3.0 server environment into our new SharePoint 2013 environment and we are having a problem with user profiles that get created.
I have SharePoint 2013 set up for "SharePoint Profile Synchronization" and some of our user's profiles are being created in an older format that shows the user's claims account information, rather than the more fancy profile type that allows us
to include pictures and click on "follow this person" links.
If we manually delete the profile, it will be recreated properly however, as we are migrating many sites and collections over, it is near impossible to do this and keep track of each user so that their profiles can be deleted and recreated.
Is there some way to change this behavior so that SharePoint will only create the newer style of user profile?

These 'profiles' are you looking at them in the User Profile Service Application itself or are you looking at site collections? There is a huge difference between the two but people often miss it.
In most cases you'll have some partial information on the Site Collections but when you click through to their actual profile (not just their User Information List entry) you'll see the prettier version. That information is normally internally synchronised
by a timer job but that may not have run yet and/or the fact that your users haven't actually used the site may be causing it not to update them (it's an efficiency matter).
Finally: Drop your sales guy at Metalogix an email, they will bounce it to one of their techies and they'll have seen it a million times.

  • It is Possible to Migrate Local User Profile to Roaming Profile Using USMT?

    Dear All,
1st, I'm following guide at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142682 to copy user profiles to another user, but the problem is the 'Copy to' button is not active (grey). I try
using 3rd party tools, still no change.
2nd, I try to transfer local profile on the same machine and different user using Windows Easy Transfer, it's work and all of data has been restore to a new user. But not all App Settings is restored, when I open Outlook 2010 and Windows
Live Mail, there's need to enter password again. That is not problem for me.
3rd, After migrate/transfer (2nd step) I want to migrate from local profile to roaming profile, but user profile setting on local profile is not copied to roaming profile, such as Email setting need to create new account but all data is
not problem, because I have already configure on ADUC and GPMC.
    My question is:
    1. How to copy or move all Application settings on AppData Local folder to roaming profile?
    2. How about USMT, it is possible to migrate user profile settings from local to roaming? if is the best tools, how to do this?
    Please, advice...
    Thanks,
    Hendra

First, I dont understand why you're using the copy profile method. I'll make the assumption that you have a domain user account that you you need it's files and settings moving to another machine.
In that scenario then there's a simple guide here:
    Migrate User Accounts
For Roaming Profiles and Redirected folders; you can follow the
Infrastructure Planning and Design (IPD) Guide for Windows User State Virtualization (USV).
It sounds like a mouthfull but it actually makes the whole process easy. There's also a video
    here.

  • How to handle User Profile service when merge SP2010 farm to a SP2013 farm?

We have a SP2010 farm and a SP2013 farm. Both are resident in same domain and their User Profile Service are sync with the same Active Directory.
To save system resource, we decide to migrate SP2010 site collections to SP2013 farm. From my understanding, I need to migrate the UPS database and perform upgrade at SP2013. My questions are:
    1. After upgrade the old UPS I will see two UPS applications in the same farm (e.g. UPS-old, UPS-new) and they can run parallel just fine?
    2. Since both applications are sync with same AD, should I and can I merge them? How to do so? Thanks.

    Hi Mark,
As you used the same AD for SharePoint 2010 farm and SharePoint 2013 farm, what’s more, there were not MySites in SharePoint 2010, it is not neccessary for upgrading User Profile Service application from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013.
As you said you had upgraded User Profile Service application to SharePoint 2013, I suggest you delete the User Profile Service application which was upgraded from SharePoint 2010.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Wendy

  • Migration Assistant showing 0.0kb User Profiles

    Hi all,
My iMac hard drive recently died, but I have been backing it up to Time Machine to a backup disk, so I'm trying to migrate my user account to my friend's MacBook. However, Migration Assistant keeps displaying these user profiles as having 0.0kb. Why is this? It seems to just hang when I attempt to migrate data. Also, how would I go about migrating just the settings and permissions of the profile, and keeping the rest of the data on the drive?
    Thank you for any help

  • How do my GF and I share our iTunes library across our user profiles?

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times but here goes.
My GF and I both have a user profile on our Mac Mini. She is just now setting up her new iPhone and wants to be able to get music on it and such from her own profile.
All of the iTunes (and iPhoto) media sits on an external 2TB hard drive. I can see everything free and clear in my profile. When I log into her profile she's got nothing in her music library. How can we get her to be able to access the same library? Also, is there a way to ensure that if she were to add new music to her folder that I would see it in mine?

How do I move all my files from one User Profile (account) into another?
I needed to create a new account and want all of my files accessible in the new one.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
    cd /
    (cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
    cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
    ls means list files/directories
    so:
    cd /Users
    ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose))  this flag is very optional.
    you will see
    fred
    user2
    for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
    for example:
    cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
    ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
    cd /
    cd Users
    cd user2
    cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
    /Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
    so in your case.
    sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
    should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character /  it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
    so
    cd /Users/fred
    is not the same as
    cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\  on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\  (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
    pwd
it will tell you where you are.
    for example:
    cd /
    pwd
    this shows  /
    cd Users
    pwd
    this now shows /Users
    cd /System/Library
    pwd will show /System/Library
    cd /
    cd /Users
    cd fred
    cd Library
    pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la  (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
    do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
    whatever pwd returned / myfile
    I hope that makes sense.

  • How to add Hotmail account to ProfileManager User Profile?

You can configure Hotmail to work on the iPhone. It works very well, I have had no problems with it. After upgrading to a Hotmail plus account, follow the instructions-

I paid the $20 for the Hotmail plus account and was receiving mail on my Iphone within a half hour. It Rocks.

  • How do I prevent "The user profile service service failed the log on" error messages?

I work for an organization with approximately 60 staff members across ~80 Windows 7 Professional PCs. Users log in with Active Directory accounts.
Approximately once per month, a random user will get an error message while attempting to log into their machine that says "The user profile service service failed the log on."  The solution to resolve this issue is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215?ppud=4&wa=wsignin1.0.
The problem is that I want to PREVENT this issue from happening, as it is incredibly inconvenient for the user. I had one staff member board a 5-hour plane trip expecting to do work, and once she got in the air she logged in and
received the error message and was unable to use her computer for the trip. I've had others locked out of their computer with deadlines to get things done, while I am at home off the clock. Editing the registry is not an easy fix, and so it's not something
I can just post instructions for in a knowledgebase article.
Does anyone know how to prevent this issue from occurring? I believe that it has something to do with a network-based startup script, or a service trying to connect to our file server, or the computer trying to connect to our ad server. All of these
are blocked by firewalls (unless the user is off-site), and I suspect that the services may be timing out, causing the user profile service service failed the logon error message, but I can't seem to eliminate it, after nearly a year of trying.
90% of the time this problem occurs when the user is off-site, but it has happened while the user is in the office too. Once the user gets this error message, the only way to resolve the problem is to log into their computer as a localadministrator account
and perform the method #1 fix in the knowledgebase article.
    Thanks

Have you checked the logged files in event viewer around the time when problem occurred?
Is there any suspicious events like error or warning related to this issue.

  • How to get user data in a user profile portlet

You would think that this would be easy. Its not?

I searched the dev docs without any success, only references to preferences.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.."
I want to know the answer as well. Seems that you shouldn't have to query the IDK for this...
I see 6.5 has an adaptive tag for this.... sigh. time to upgrade.
Edited by: Joel Collins on Feb 3, 2009 10:56 AM
in case anyone tries this in 6.1, I ended up using this:
    string sProfileUserID = portletRequest.GetSettingValue(SettingType.UserInfo, "_ProfileUserID");
    int iProfileUserID = int.Parse(sProfileUserID);
    IObjectQueryRow user = userManager.QuerySingleObject(iProfileUserID);
    IExtendedData extendedData = user.GetExtendedData();
make sure you check off the right check box on the user information page of the web service.
