How to write from a linked list collection to a text file.

Hi,
I want to write my data in linked list collection to a text file.
the following is the code of my linked list. how do i write it
Iwant the data to be comma separated while writing it to a text file.
please help.
class MailList
        public static void main(String args[])
                LinkedList m1 = new LinkedList();
                m1.add(new Address("J.W.West", "11 Oak Ave",
                       "Urbana", "IL", "118011"));
                m1.add(new Address("H.S.sandy", "1 k ve",
                       "Bana", "L", "18011"));
                m1.add(new Address("K.Satish", "1 104 Clarence Street",
                        "Strathfield", "NSW", "135"));
                Collections.sort(m1);
                Iterator itr = m1.iterator();
                while(itr.hasNext())
                        Object element = itr.next();
                        System.out.println(element + "\n");
}

look at the API for FileWriter.

  • How can you create a linked list? GUI?

    I have the following program that I wrote:
    package damagecounter;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class Main
         public static void main (String[] args) throws Exception
              String logline;
              Player player1 = new Player("Kazzandar");
              try
                   BufferedReader logfile = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("TeilmonRun.txt"));
                   logline = logfile.readLine();
                   while (logline != null)
                        if (logline.startsWith (player1.getName (), 0))
                             if (logline.contains ("recites"))
                                  player1.recites++;
                             if (logline.contains ("rescues"))
                                  player1.rescues++;
                             if (logline.contains ("utters the words"))
                                  player1.spells++;
                             if (logline.contains ("sprawling with a powerful bash."))
                                  player1.bashes++;
                             if (logline.contains ("got toasted by"))
                                  player1.deaths++;
                             if ((logline.contains ("-=")) && (logline.contains ("=-")))
                                  if (logline.startsWith (player1.getName (), 0))
                                       String damage = logline.substring(logline.indexOf ("-=") + 2 , logline.indexOf ("=-"));
                                       player1.setDamage (Integer.parseInt (damage));
                        logline = logfile.readLine ();
              catch (Exception e)
                   System.out.println ("Log file not found or corrupt.");
                   e.printStackTrace();
              player1.printStats();
    }As of right now the code require a person to enter the name of a player and then scans the log file to determine the appropriate counts for that player. If I want to scan the file for multiple players how would I be able to do that without having to run the program over and over. The reason being that sometimes the logs have over 15 different players and I'd hate to have to run the program 15 times to get each players stats. Any suggestions? Would I have to make a linked list?

    Yes, the log file looks something like that. Here is a small 15 line version of what the log file actually looks like:
    Kazzandar's stab misses Icingdeath. -=0=-
    Arien's slash >>> ANNIHILATES <<< Icingdeath! -=118=-
    Arien's slash >>> ANNIHILATES <<< Icingdeath! -=112=-
    Arien's slash <<< ERADICATES >>> Icingdeath! -=158=-
    Parrish utters the words, 'yjrr pzar'.
    Arien rescues Shargaas!
    Kazzandar's counterattack does UNSPEAKABLE things to Icingdeath! -=636=-
    Icingdeath's claw does UNSPEAKABLE things to Arien! -=760=-
    Arien's fireball scratches Icingdeath. -=4=-
    Arien's lightning bolt grazes Icingdeath. -=7=-
    Arien's counterattack -- DESSICATES -- Icingdeath! -=540=-
    Icingdeath's claw COMPLETELY TRASHES Arien! -=802=-
    Arien is DEAD!
    Kitiara's fireball grazes Icingdeath. -=5=-
    Kitiara's lightning bolt grazes Icingdeath. -=8=-
    Almost always the player name is first but sometimes the "mob" name (In this case Icingdeath) comes out. I don't mind if Icingdeath is referenced as a player and included in the stats, not that big a deal. Thanks for the idea on the HashMap I'll looking into how it works. Since this is my first Java program I often find myself lost at where to begin.
    I changed "got toasted by" to "is DEAD!" since it's easier to read. I also changed the majority of the main code into a method for the player class. The main code looks like this now:
    public static void main (String[] args) throws Exception
              Player player1 = new Player("Shargaas");
              player1.scanLogForStats("TeilmonRun.txt");
              player1.printStats();
         I was hoping this would make it easier, anyway, thanks again and I'll definitely be looking into HashMap.

    Alrite mate,cheers for replying....You are right,my mistake,,It is Frame and not Panel...therefore Frame 1 is home and Frame 2 is Add User. Frame 1 has a button called Add User,which if i press it should run and open up my Frame 2. I can run Frame 1 and 2 seprately and it works fine,but Now i want to link them. So When i run Frame 1 at first i only get Frame 1,but then when i press Add User button my program should start Frame 2.Resuting in 2 Frames opened. I dont know how to link them.

  • How to write from a servlet to it's war file?

    We need to be able to write a file from a servlet into the document root
              area to it can be accessed by a browser. Before we used war files, we
              would simply figure out the real document root directory and write the
              file somewhere under it. How would I do this when my application is
              packaged as a war? I don't see a way to write to a "xxx.war" file and
              if we run from an exploded war, how do I determine the location of the
              document root at runtime from the servlet? I don't want to have to hard
              code the path or make each installation specifiy it in a properties
              file. It seems there should be a better way to handle this. Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help. Not to beat this to death but say I want a response that
              includes a bunch of HTML generated by a servlet or JSP and in the middle I want
              a dynamically created image. So basically I want an <image> tag in the middle
              of the html returned. Could I dynamically generate the image and add it to the
              response in the middle of the servlet/JSP processing? I thought the only option
              would be to return an html page the referred to an image via an <image> tag.
              What do you think?

  • How to write list values to a text file?

    Hi. Does anyone know how to write values stored in a List to a text file? I have a program that asks the user to enter a name and stores it in a list. The number of names in the list depends on how many times the user wants to enter a name. The problem is that my writeToFile method, which handles writing values to a text file, only writes one name and overwrites any previous names. How could I fix this so that it goes thru the list and writes every value to the file? Any hints would be appreciated!
    peace
    Chris
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class StoreNames
    String name;
    char answer;
    BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
    public void anotherName(List a)throws IOException
    System.out.println("Enter another name? (Y or N)");
    answer = (char)System.in.read();
    System.in.skip(2);
    while(answer == 'Y' || answer == 'y')
    inputName(a);
    System.out.println("Enter another name? (Y or N)");
    answer = (char)System.in.read();
    System.in.skip(2);
    if (answer == 'N' || answer == 'n')
    System.out.println("Ok. GoodBye");
    writeToFile(a);
    //prompts user to input names
    public void inputName(List a) throws IOException
    System.out.print("Enter a name: ");
    name = input.readLine();
    a.add(name);
    public void writeToFile(List a)throws IOException
    PrintWriter output = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter("names.txt"));
    output.print(name); //Problem area - handles only one line of input, overwrites previous input
    output.close();

    System.out is an instance of PrintStream (check the API documents for the System class to see this).
    So the easiest way to convert from a "print to screen" class to a "print to file" class is to acquire a PrintStream that prints to a file, and use it exactly the same as you'd have used System.out...
    So start with your console code...
            PrintStream out = System.out;
            for(int i = 0; i <10; i++){
                out.println("Number " +i);
            }Then you adapt to file code:
            FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("temp.txt");
            PrintStream out = new PrintStream(fos);
            for(int i = 0; i <10; i++){
                out.println("Number " +i);
            out.flush();
            out.close();Note that we flush the stream because for reasons of efficiency files aren't necessarily written to disk until you explicitly ask the system to do so (memory is fast, disks are slow, that's why).
    Closing the stream releases system resources associated with it.
    Actually, that's redundant, because close calls flush automatically, but I left it in for clarity.
    Any use ?

  • Problem with removing items from a linked list

    Hello,
    I have something weird going with my code. Below is the snippet
    if (ParserDataList.isEmpty())
    try {
    Thread.sleep(10)
    catch (InterruptedException e) {
    else
    data = ParserDataList.remove();
    ParserDataList is declared as a LinkedList. Occasionally I receive the error on NoSuchElement on the remove. I put a try/catch around the remove and print out the value of ParserDataList.isEmpty which is always false. I am very confused on why if the linked list isn't empty I can't remove a data item. There are no other threads that remove data. Thank you in advance for any assistance on this problem.

    I am changing it from linked list to blocking queue however I do have a question about what I should use to poll the data? Instead of a remove should I use take which seemed to remove the first element and if there wasn't one wait until there was. I was trying to not have the threads blocked because I do need to stop them when a disconnect is sent from the main thread.

    The key difference is that Vector is synchronized whilst ArrayList is not. Synchronized means that the classes methods can safely be accessed by different threads and as your application will not be multithreaded then the ArrayList is possibly the better option.
    To store Strings in an ArrayList, you first need to declare the ArrayList object something like this;
    ArrayList<String> listAList = new ArrayList<String>();and you would obviously do something similar for the ArrayList that will hold the Strings that should belong to List B.
    The first thing to note is that you can use the new (well new in version 1.5 anyway) generics techniques to specify the type of the object the ArrayList will hold; Strings in this case.
    To add a value into the ArrayList once you have read it from the file and decided if it belongs in the List A or List B ArrayList, all you need to do is call the add() method of the ArrayList something like this;
    // Assume that you read the line from the file into a variable called temp;
    listAList.add(temp);To compare the two lists, the easiest option would be to iterate through one ArrayList and ceheck to see if the values you recover from it are duplicated in the other ArrayList. Luckilly, ArrayList has another method that helps here, it is called contains();
    Assuming that you have two ArrayList(s), one called listAList that holds the Strings that belong to List A and another called listBList that holds the Strings that belong to ListB, you could do something like this to check for duplicates;
    for(String element : listAList) {
        if(listBList.contains(element)) {
            System.out.println("Found a match");
    }Hope that helps.

  • Nested Repeat Region (How to convert from table to list)

    Sorry, i am really no PHP hero :-(
    i created a menu with the "nested repeat region" wizzard. Now i want to change the HTML from TABLE to LIST.
    I thought i just need to delete <table>- and <td>-tags, replace <tr> with <ul> and that's it. (But ist's NOT!)
    This is my code:
    ------- START ----------------
    <ul id="nav">
          <?php do { ?>
              <li><?php echo $row_master1waa_page_top['top_name']; ?></li>
            <?php
      if ($totalRows_master1waa_page_top>0) {
        $nested_query_detail2waa_page_sub = str_replace("123456789", $row_master1waa_page_top['id_top'], $query_detail2waa_page_sub);
        mysql_select_db($database_WAA);
        $detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_query($nested_query_detail2waa_page_sub, $WAA) or die(mysql_error());
        $row_detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_fetch_assoc($detail2waa_page_sub);
        $totalRows_detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_num_rows($detail2waa_page_sub);
        $nested_sw = false;
        if (isset($row_detail2waa_page_sub) && is_array($row_detail2waa_page_sub)) {
          do { //Nested repeat
    ?>
              <ul>
                <li>  <?php echo $row_detail2waa_page_sub['sub_head']; ?></li>
              </ul>
              <?php
          } while ($row_detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_fetch_assoc($detail2waa_page_sub)); //Nested move next
    ?>
            <?php } while ($row_master1waa_page_top = mysql_fetch_assoc($master1waa_page_top)); ?>
    </ul>
    ------- END -----
    The problem is located in line 3. the result is a list like this:
    <ul id="nav">
         <li>xxx</li>
         <li>xxx</li>
              <ul>
                    <li>xxx</li>
                    <li>xxx</li>
              </ul>
         <li>xxx</li>
    </ul>
    Of course it will not work. I need the nested list inserted like this:
    <ul id="nav">
         <li>xxx</li>
         <li>xxx
              <ul>
                    <li>xxx</li>
                    <li>xxx</li>
              </ul>
          </li>
         <li>xxx</li>
    </ul>
    Can someone please help me changing my code to get this result?

    Hi,
    I had trouble replying. I may be of some assistance until one of the Guru's get on.
    The whole thing works on loops based inside do and while
    EX.
    <?php
              do{    //end php, use html
    ?>
    I can repeat anthing here in HTML!
    <?php } while ( /* some critera exist ex: i<5 */      ); ?>
    so, your 'options' tag or LI' tags should only exist inside the first loop, check your { }
    The entire LIST  would repeat if you add the UL tags inside the nested loop area
    You may find it easier to reaplace the table with div tags and then indent the sub or nested loop with a class
    I don't have time to test this but try this:
    <ul id="nav">
    <ul>
    <?php do { ?>
      <li><?php echo $row_master1waa_page_top['top_name']; ?></li>
    <?php
      if ($totalRows_master1waa_page_top>0) {
        $nested_query_detail2waa_page_sub = str_replace("123456789", $row_master1waa_page_top['id_top'], $query_detail2waa_page_sub);
        mysql_select_db($database_WAA);
        $detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_query($nested_query_detail2waa_page_sub, $WAA) or die(mysql_error());
        $row_detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_fetch_assoc($detail2waa_page_sub);
        $totalRows_detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_num_rows($detail2waa_page_sub);
        $nested_sw = false;
        if (isset($row_detail2waa_page_sub) && is_array($row_detail2waa_page_sub)) { ?>
       <ul>
      <?php  do { //Nested repeat ?>
                   <li>  <?php echo $row_detail2waa_page_sub['sub_head']; ?></li>
            <?php } while ($row_detail2waa_page_sub = mysql_fetch_assoc($detail2waa_page_sub)); //Nested move next ?>
        </ul>
    <?php
    ?>
            <?php } while ($row_master1waa_page_top = mysql_fetch_assoc($master1waa_page_top)); ?>
    </ul>

    Hi....
    I am strugling for a code to write from database to xml output instead of what i have written in flat file....could anyone please help me out...to do this and again read the same back to the database using java...

    Hi,
    In java world, there is a tutorial on what you are looking for :
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-01-2000/jw-01-dbxml_p.html
    It uses SAX/DOM parsers to translate XML data into the appropriate fields of the database and visa-versa.
    Hope it helps.

  • Best way how to write FPGA data in rt cRIO system in tdms file

    Hej,
    I am struggling to write measured data from an analog input (NI 9215) sampled at up to 20 kHz to a tdms file in the rt system (crio-9022). I just need to save several periods of 4 arbitrary analog signals at frequencies between 5 Hz and 1KHz. So storing up to 50k values should already be enough.
    I use a high priority and a low priority loop. First I tried to adapt the example from the "Getting Started with CompactRIO - Logging Data to Disk" (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/11198). But when I used this in my high priority loop (running at 1ms), the loop runs out of time and the rt system becomes unresponsible. If I change the number of elements to write (the number of elements to wait for in the fifo read block) it becomes better, but still data is lost because the loop finishes late.
    So I was thinking to create a RT fifo and to store all the values from the measurement first in this memory inside the high priority loop and then write the values to the tdms file in the low priority loop. This time I used the read/write fpga block instead of the FPGA fifo block. It was already working better but writing the files to the tdms file took a lot of time since each value was read and written to the tdms file individually. Unfortunately I could not find a possibility how to write the whole rt fifo to the tdms file at once. Is there a block available or is it possible to create a big array first and then write the data to the tdms file at once? My code I tried is in this second picture.
    I hope someone can give me some tips which method should be better for my project and a hint what I did wrong or what I can optimize. I stucked for days now on how to save my measurements on the cRIO system.
    Thank you very much in advance. Have a nice weekend.
    Best regards
    Andy
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    HiXiebo and Christian,
    thank you very much for your answers. Actually, my high priority loop is much slower. I run it with a maximum loop time of 50us = 20kHz or slower, depending on my Signal I want to measure. So my data producing rate is maximum 4*8*20k=640 KB/s. My low priority loop runs at 2ms to 5 ms (much slower then the high priority loop), since I am doing just some simple math calculation there and control the front panel in this loop.
    I understand that it is much more efficient to write blocks of data (e.g. 1024*32KB instead of just 32KB) to a file with TDMS. But is it also the same for a queue or RT FIFO, i.e. does the block size of the data chunks also matter for the queue and RT FIFO?
    @Xiebo: I understand that caching the read data from the FPGA in the high priority loop first will improve my code. But I do not know how I can cache the data I read? I was thinking to do it with the FPGA FIFO, but the FPGA read/write blocks seem to be faster for me and I do not know why? Can you tell me a block/vi to cache the data I read from the FPGA or maybe even an example?
    @Christian: This NI_MinimumBufferSize property looks exactly what I was looking for. But my question is now if I should put the tdms write VI's in my high priority loop and read directly from the FPGA FIFO buffer to the file as it is done in the Disk logging example at http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/11198? Or is it better to read the data from the FPGA via the FPGA read/write function, write the data to a RT FIFO in the high priority loop and then write the data with the  NI_MinimumBufferSize property option to the tdms file from the RT FIFO in the low priority loop?
    In summary, I am still unsure if the FPGA FIFO or the FPGA read/write function with a queue or RT FIFO is better for me and how I can create a cache to build chunks of data blocks to write.
    Thank you very much in advance for your help.
    Best regards

  • How to write the org.w3c.dom.Document  into an XML file.

    The file doesn't not exist. I have a class to form an XML Document object with giving parameters. And then how to write this Document object to an specialitied
    file?

    The easiest way is to use a Transformer to do an default transform of the document from a DOMSource to a StreamResult.
    something like
             TransformerFactory tf = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
             tf.setAttribute("indent-number", new Integer(4));
             Transformer t = tf.newTransformer();
             t.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.INDENT, "yes");
             t.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.METHOD, "xml");
             t.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.MEDIA_TYPE, "text/xml");
             t.transform(new DOMSource(yourDOMDocument), new StreamResult(new OutputStreamWriter(yourFileOutputStream)));

  • What is the best method for writing Multicolumn List data to a text file?

    I am trying to find the best method for writing the data from a multicolumn list to a text file. Say the list has 7 rows and 6 columns of data. I would like the final file to have the data resemble the Multicolumn List as closely as possible with or without column headers. A sample VI showing how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. I realize this is pretty basic stuff, but I can get the output to the file, but it comes out with duplicate data and I am on a time crunch hense my request for help.
    Thank You,
    Charlie
