How to write or send String to an external file in java

Hi guys...!
I am writing a program in which I have to send some texts to an external file. If the file is not empty, I want the program to append to that file instead of overwriting the file.
Any suggestions...guys??
Thanks...

Hi therer...!
Thanks for your suggestion... But I forgot to mention
that I'm using XML in my java program and the method
"endElement()" for XML throws a "SAXException" and it
would not let me add another exception next to it
...like the one thrown by the "FileWriter", which is
IOException...
Thanks....

    Have you considered using JDOM? ( www.jdom.org )
    The XMLOutputter class can write the Document to a file. ( The Document however will be an org.jdom.Document object ).
    If you are weary of a new API, you could just create a new File object called abc.xml and stream the data from the XML Document you have to this new File object.

  • How to write a code for  open new txt file in swing

    hai all,
    now i do one project in java.that project's GUI is Swing. But i don't known swing (basic).So how to write a code for open new txt file and "Open window " in menu item on swing.that means when i click the "New" on menu that time open a new txt file. open also like that type.
    plz give me that code ! very urgent
    Advance Thanks !

    Swing Tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/index.html
    Since you don't know the basic of swing read the tutorial, it is for your own good because it is useless if we provide you with a code you don't even understand and how it works.
    If you want a menu read the tutorial about using menus and for opening a file read using JFileChooser.
    note: don't use the word urgent because it implies that your problem is more important than others.

  • How do i search for a string in a txt file using java??

    How do i search for a string in a txt file using java??
    could you please help thanks
    J

    Regular expressinos work just fine, especially when
    searching for patterns. But they seem to be impying
    it's a specific group of characters they're looking
    for, and indexOf() is much faster than a regex.If he's reading from a file, the I/O time will likely swamp any performance hit that regex introduces. I think contains() (or indexOf() if he's not on 5.0 yet) is preferable to regex just because it's simpler. (And in the case of contains(), the name makes for a very clear, direct mapping between your intent and the code that realizes it.)

  • How to accessed,created and modified date of particular file in java

    Hi,
    I am facing one problem.
    I know how to get the modified date/time of file in java.
    but i don't know how to find created and accessed date/time of file in java.
    Thanks,
    Tejas

    I guess thats not possible in in Windows.
    But if u r trying it on a unix machine.
    You can use Runtime class to call exec on the command
    ls -l filename
    and then store the result in a file . And then take out the last modified time. But you cant get created time.
    Thats a clumpsy way i believe.

  • How do I save a string to a CSV file using applescript?

    Hi,
    I have an applescript that returns a string in the form:
    Value1,Value2,Value3,Value4
    Value5,Value6,Value7,Value8
    Value9,Value10,Value11,Value12
    Value13,Value14,Value15,Value16   etc.
    I would like to be able to save this string as a CSV file on my desktop but I'm not sure how to do this.
    Could someone help me out with this?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    sorry, I didn't read carefully.  this is slightly better:
    set theText to "some delimited text you already have..."
    set filePath to (path to desktop as text) & "file name.csv"
    set fp to open for access filePath with write permission
    write theText to fp
    close access fp

  • How to write a function read line from a file in FDK?

    Hello,
    I want to write a function that can read a file in line by line in FDK. How do I write it. If FDK could not. Is there any the way? Please help.
    Thank you,
    Thai Nguyen

    Thai,
    You can use the "channel" functions for this. I'm far from an expert on channel programming but I've read files line-by-line successfully by going one character at a time, looking for a carriage return.
    You can open up the file channel with something like:
      ChannelT chan;
      FilePathT *path;
      UCharT ptr[1];
      IntT numRead;
      path = F_PathNameToFilePath("C:\\temp\\mydoc.txt", NULL, FDefaultPath);
      if((chan = F_ChannelOpen(path,"r")) == NULL)
          return;
      //read the first character
      numRead = F_ChannelRead(ptr, sizeof(UCharT), 1, chan);
    ...then you can call F_ChannelRead iteratively to build the string in a buffer, looking for a carriage return (ASCII 13) and stopping there. (that is, ptr[0] == 13).
    There might be a better way. This is just the way I've gotten it to work. It probably is not a good method for unicode files.

    Hi Mon,
    We also could use OleDbConnection to insert data into excel.
    using System.Data.OleDb;
    using Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel;
    using Microsoft.Office.Interop;
    //in the method section use as :
    string datevariable = "02/02/2010";
    string namevariable = "Shyam";
    string strConnectionString ="";

    string filepath = ""C:\\sample.xls";
    strConnectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="+filePath+@";Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=Yes;""" ;
    OleDbConnection conn =new OleDbConnection (strConnectionString);
    try

    Console.WriteLine(e);
    try
    // Insert into Sheetname
    cmd = "Insert into [Sheet1$] ( [Date], [Name]) values ('" +datevariable+ "','" +namevariable+ "');
    //Similarly you can update also
    OleDbCommand cmdUpd=new OleDbCommand(cmd);

  • How to write a web service for uploading a file

    Hi all,
    I want to write a web service for uploading a file to some specified folder under application server, how to do that? Thanks

    I believe the "difference" that you're seeing is that one web service is "RPC" style (The Hello World example) and one web service is "Document" style (The WSDL you have downloaded).
    Document-style web service methods always have one element as a parameter, and this parameter manifests itself as a SOAPElement in the service interface.
    RPC-style web services are true "remote procedure calls", and are more functional in nature, in that they accept multiple parameters. JAX-RPC will bind these parameters to generated Java types.

  • How to write data in differt line in .txt file

    Hi all,
    I am tring to write data on one file using utl_file,
    the first cursor loop write data on first line of the file using
    utl_file.put_line(..........................);
    end the second cusor loop write the data on secion line of the same file using

    file format we are given as .txt;
    problem we are facing is when we open the file in notepad all the data is showing in one line...
    same file if we open another tools like edit plus, word pad etc it showing the write formate( line by line)
    Can any one help on this we need to set any setups in note pad????????????/

    As others have said it sounds like an operating system difference.
    If your Oracle is installed on a unix based server then the file will be written using Unix style newlines which are just Line Feed characters.
    In Windows environments a newline is considered to be made of the Carriage Return/Line Feed character pair, not just the Line Feed.
    Some applications such as MS Word or Wordpad can read Unix style linefeeds and interpret them as you expect as a Newline. However Notepad doesn't.
    When you transfer the file from Unix to Windows, usually this is done using an FTP based mechanism. If you transfer the files using FTP Binary mode, then every byte of the file is transferred as it is on Unix, and the file will essentially be a unix file on a windows system. If, however, you transfer the files (from Unix to Windows) using FTP ASCII mode, then whenever FTP encounters a LineFeed character it will convert it to a Carriage Return/LineFeed pair of characters, so that the file will appear correctly in Notepad. Likewise if you transfer files from Windows to Unix in ASCII mode, then Carriage Return/LineFeed pairs of characters are converted to just a LineFeed character so that the file becomes Unix compatible. Note, you shouldn't transfer binary files in ASCII mode as it can corrupt them, it's only intented for text based files.
