How well does macbook air run photoshop?

I'm considering the 11" MB air and an the 27" monitor because I do a lot of traveling and writing that would be better with a light laptop. But I also do a fair amount of photo editing in Photoshop and am wondering what experience people have with running Photoshop and other graphics-intensive tasks on these machines. I run CS4 currently on an iMac. What is your experience? Thanks in advance!

I use CS4 Photoshop on both a 2010 11" and a 2011 13" (both 4 gb), and can confirm that it runs just fine, without issue, and no perceptible handicap as compared with a MBP (which I also have used it on).

• How well does MacBook air Perform with the sims 2?

I don't know how you apple lovers did this to me but.. God, after yeas of hating Mac for no appearent reason and favoring microsoft, worshiping Bill gates someone handed me an iPhone and it was love at first touch. I'm sorry Bill I can no longer resist apple's incredible products! Time to get my first apple computer! Bottom line I love the sims 2 and wish to have a laptop that plays it easily. I've got my eyes on the latest MacBook pro, is it captable? The bigger issue is the price.. One thousand dollars is already a ton of money but amazingly I'm willing To spend just that but two thousand dollars is out of the question.. I need a MacBook of any sort that will play the sims 2 at least and a decent screen resolution.. I'm probably better off with a windows vista. Prove me wrong!

I have several other Macromedia applications - but not Air. But if the other applications are an indication, boot is going to be slow (around a minute); Air's dependence on Flash will guarantee relatively slow performance. As you know, most other applications boot in seconds.
Your best solution would be to download the free part of the programs to determine if you find the performance acceptable.

• How well does Vista Ultimate run? Worth getting?

Hey everyone, I have XP installed right now on my macbook pro to play Lord of the Rings Online and Counter-Strike Source. My college is offering Vista SP1 Ultimate for VERY cheap! Is it worth upgrading to Vista on a macbook pro? Also is it worth getting the 64 over the 32? I'm mostly just looking at being able to run Lord Of The Rings Online and Counter Strike and maybe some other games. So would it be wise to get Vista SP1 64-bit?
Also how well would it run in VMWare? I use VMWare sometimes when I just need to change some stuff in my XP Boot Camp partition, does it still run well?

which macbook pro do you have? What are the specs?

• Will macbook air run photoshop?

Anyone here run Photoshop Elements on a Macbook Air? And if so, can you share any insight regarding the experience?
Thank you.

Photoshop, be it elements or the full CS version will have no problem on the current generation Air. I use the CS version, and it runs extremely well.

• 2012 MacBook Air running Photoshop and Logic Pro

Looking to buy a laptop. The most I do with my current iMac is record music using logic pro, edit video in iMovie and edit photos in photoshop.
I'm planning on travelling for a decent length of time and would like to continue to do this on a laptop.
The weight and SSD of the macbook air are really appealing to me. I'm wondering if it will be able to perform the above tasks? I read some reviews of people using photoshop on a 2011 macbook air with no issues, and from what I understand, the cheapest 2012 macbook air 13' is faster then the ultimate macbook air of 2011?
So I'm considering purchasing a 2012 MacBook air 13' with the 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 and upgrading the RAM from 4gb to 8gb.
Will this be able to meet my needs? I say I will be editing photos and recording music with it, but I'm still really amateur and I'm sure my needs are also.

Thanks for the reply DWB,
USB should be fine as far as I can see. Is there a firewire adaptor just in case?
I was planning on keeping an external drive, and if I wanted to edit any substantial amount of footage, transfer it from the external drive to the MBA hardrive then just edit it from there.
The main thing I'm wondering about is wheter or not the applications photoshop CS6, imovie (maybe even final cut pro?) and logic pro will run smoothly on a 2012 13-inch 1.8GHv i5 macbook air with 8gb ram.

• How Well does FCP Studio Run on a MBP?

I've been debating whether to wait on a MP update or pickup a new 17" MBP. How well do all the Studios programs run on the new 17" MBP?

Exceptionally well. You can also get an Express Card adapter and run super fast eSATA external drives too.

• How well does OSX Yosemite run on a Mid 2007 iMac?

I own a Mid 2007 iMac with 4GB 667Mhz DDR2 RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz processor and has ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB graphics. I was considering upgrading from OSX Mavericks 10.9.4 to OSX Yosemite, but fear it may slow the Mac down. If anybody has upgraded their Mid 2007 iMac, does it slow the system down? Thank You.

Hi JRos23. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I also have a mid 2007 iMac (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and I'm waiting on reviews like yours to evaluate if it is worth to take the leap and update. Last year I updated to Mavericks from Lion (skipped Mountain Lion) and it improved a lot on many fronts. However, it only felt smooth when I updated the RAM to 6GB. Apple specs tells us that this machine supports max 4Gb, though I found many people saying that it would support 1x2GB + 1x4Gb, and it does. I trully recommend it. If it helps anyone, I bought these: link (sorry, Spanish Amazon store).
However, seeing that you're having a good enough experience until now I will definitely consider it as near future project, maybe with 10.10.1. Is it really an improvement or are there any daily usage setbacks?
Cheers,
JP

• Aperture on a macbook - how well does it run?

Hi,
Out of curisoity, how fast does Aperture run on a macbook? I know, it is not officially supported, but regardless, it will install, but how well does it actually run when processing RAW files?

Unfortunately we do not have a speedometer that measures application performance. However, numerous folks have commented subjectively with a wide variation of commentary. Review all the threads with Macbook in the title.
Do note that later versions of application software historically have typically required stronger systems than earlier versions needed. I am not saying that v2 will be more demanding than v1 (because I do not know) but I will say that folks who configure a computer should be buying for the apps and OSs of the next 2-4 years moreso than for today's apps and OS.
Also note that Apple officially considers the MacBooks inadequate to run Aperture. Any Aperture user who buys a MacBook should be intending only light Aperture usage (whatever "light" usage is).
Personally buying a light duty laptop to run heavy duty graphics applications does not make sense to me, but quite a few folks seem intent to do so; the argument being that the MacBook would only be for field review, and a powerful desktop box would do the heavy Aperture work.
Some interesting speed tests are at <http://www.creativemac.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=43717> but unfortunately the apps used do not include Aperture.

• Was wondering how well does the 1Ghz titanium runs Leopard?

Hi
Could some one put up a youtube video of how well leopard runs on the last titanium g4?
I mean the minimum for leopard is 800mhz ... but how well does it actually run? is it worth purchasing leopard if you have 1Ghz?
Thanks
Chris

Hi, Nomad.c. How fast any OS runs on any computer is a lot more than you could reasonably expect to learn from any YouTube video.
We've seen posts here from people who had installed Leopard even on Tibooks that didn't meet the minimum processor-speed requirement of 867MHz (not 800MHz). They seemed to be happy with it by and large, but they may have had reasonable expectations going in. It won't be faster than what you're running now, but it will have some new features; you may or may not find them valuable. But you'd better have your Tibook's RAM maxed out at 1GB, because Leopard is much greedier for RAM than Tiger or Panther. That means if you use RAM-hungry applications on top of Leopard, you're going to make greater use of virtual memory than you have up to now, and VM is many times slower than real RAM.

• How well does a Macbook pro and a Macbook air run Xcode, Photoshop and Dreamweaver?

How well does a Macbook pro and a Macbook air run Xcode, Photoshop and Dreamweaver?

MacBook Pro - no problem, it is an extremely popular computer for running that software. Just look at the Adobe demo videos of their products, most of the time you can see a MacBook Pro running the software in their video.
MacBook Air - should be just as good most of the time.
However, if you get involved in heavy Photoshop work like highly stacked layers/masks/channels, 16 bits per channel or up, or merging HDR or panoramas, the MacBook Pro may be better because it can take 16GB RAM while the MacBook Air can take only 8GB RAM.
Also, if you are going to do serious programming in XCode or Dreamweaver, you may find the MacBook Air screen to be too small for all of the code windows and tool palettes that you may want to open and arrange in those programs. The 15" Retina screen of the MacBook Pro will let you spread out your work and do less window switching. The 11/"13" MacBook Air screens are both smaller and non-Retina so not as sharp.
Even Photoshop is nicer on the 15" MacBook Pro because of the extra screen space for the image with less intrusion by the tool palettes.
In short, if you are a casual user the MacBook Air will be great. If you are a professional with a heavy workload the MacBook Pro may be more efficient overall due to the larger screen and higher RAM capacity.

• How well does the 2013 MacBook Air 13" Handle Adobe Creative Cloud Program's?

How Well Does The 13" MacBook Air Handle The Adobe Creative Cloud Apps?
I'm A Visual Communication Student But I Would Like Extremely Portable Setup Hence The MacBook Air 13", The Main Program's I Use Are:
Photoshop
InDesign
Illustrator
And I Also Use Dreamweaver & After Effects From Time To Time.....
How Would A Top Spec 2013 13" Air Cope Running These Program's??

What about the backpack? Did you have it in one often?
College and notebooks = backpacks usually 9 times out of 10, was that the case?
Your MacBook Air doesnt like roommates in your backpack
Many collects students or people in general are fond of using non-idealized backpacks (without a padded laptop compartment) along with their books. Sandwiching books around your notebook etc. is an extremely bad idea and can leads to your LCD screen being destroyed when heavy textbooks are pressing against same, or when dropping your backpack, these books slam into your Macbook causing great potential for damage.
~"large white blotch and pixilated lines running down the screen."
That indicates a significant impact.
~~"They kept telling me it was "excess pressure". I told them it was impossible, it would be normal pressure"
What do you mean by "normal pressure" ANY pressure to the LCD is abnormal pressure.

• Does anybody knows how to install Windows 7 from a USB drive on 2010 MacBook Air running Lion?

Does anybody knows how to install Windows 7 from a USB drive on 2010 MacBook Air running Lion?

Tell my wife that!
This is the best I can do. This way you can use the 2011 MBA way to do things.
Look for the post from @jacktourist. (on page 2 about half way down) This seems to be the easiest.
There are a couple of more similar to this with pictures I've seen around but can't remember where.
Here's another search with added info. It's easier then it sounds.
