HP 2520hc Printer - Scanning in JPG?

Hi
I have been using HP2520hc printer and every single time I scan my document, it will turn out to be JPG document. It is very frustrating as I need to change the document from jpg to pdf manually myself via other means.
I wish to set it to be pdf document for all of my future scanning via the HP 2520hc printer. How can I do so?
Please advise.
Thank you.

Hi @Chuck89 ,
I understand that the scans are saving as a JPEG and you want them to default to a PDF. I can help you.
I have provided a document with some steps for scanning and changing the settings.
Scan from Windows 7 With the Full Feature HP Software for HP Multifunction Printers.
Open the HP Scan software.
Click or tap Advanced Settings to change the following settings:
Under the File tab, select the file type as PDF.
You have the option underneath it to create a separate file for each scanned page.
If you are selecting the PDF format and the software is changing it over to a JPEG, then uninstall and reinstall the printer software.
Uninstalling the Printer Software.

  • Hp 2520hc printer printing only in gray!

    Hello! I hope someone can help me. I bought my hp 2520hc. It was working very well until just recenty. One time I tried to print, an error message saying that I need to replace my black cartridge kept on popping up. So I changed my black cartridge. No more error message. But everytime I print now... even in the fine setting, even if the text in the document is set at black... the output is just in gray! Lighter even than the normal fast draft print! What's wrong with my printer? And how can I fix this? Thanks!

    Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you're experiencing print quality issues on your HP Deskjet 2520 Printer. I will certainly do my best to help you. First we need to identify where the issue resides, in the driver or with the Ink system itself. To see if wer're dealing with a print quality issue or print setting issues. We need to print an extended test page.  Print and evaluate an extended test page and troubleshoot defectsFollow these steps to print, and then evaluate a test page. Step 1: Print an extended test pageMake sure there is plain white, letter-size paper loaded in the input tray.On the printer control panel, hold down the Power button, and then press the Cancel button () once.Release the Power button.The test page prints.Figure : Example of extended test pageStep 2: Determine which cartridges printed which areas of the extended test pageDifferent cartridges print different areas of the test page. Use the following guidelines to determine which cartridge printed which areas.The black cartridge prints the black areas of the page, such as the black bars and black text.The color cartridge prints the color areas of the page, such as the cyan (blue), magenta, and yellow color bars.Figure : Which cartridges print which areas of the extended test pagePrinted by the color cartridgePrinted by the black cartridgeMake a note of which cartridges printed which areas of the extended test page, and then continue to the next step to check the report for defects. If the extended test doesn't look good, go through this document from start to finish: Fixing Print Quality Problems. If you were able to print the test and the black and colours both look good, please proceed to the next step. Check the print settingsFollow these steps to check the print settings to make sure that they are appropriate for your print job.Use these steps to open the HP toolbox.Open the printer software.Windows 8Windows 7 and Windows VistaWindows XPClick Start (), click All Programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP printer, and then click the icon for your HP printer (). The printer software opens. NOTE:You can also open the HP printer software from your computer desktop: double-click the icon for your HP printer ().Click Print & Scan, and then click Set Preferences. The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.Click the Paper/Quality tab.From the Media drop-down, select the paper type that matches the paper loaded and the desired print quality.Click the Advanced tab. The Advanced Options dialog box opens.Review the following options, and then make any necessary changes.Paper/Output: Make sure that the selected option matches your paper size. For example, for legal paper, select Legal 8.5x14in.Document Options: Make sure that Print in Grayscale is set to Off, unless you are printing in Grayscale intentionally.Resolution: This list allows you to see the resolution specifications for the possible print quality selections. For example, Best Mode is 600x600 dpi. To change the resolution, you must click the Paper/Quality tab, and then select the paper type and print quality from the Media drop-down.Click OK, and then click OK again to apply the settings.Click OK from the Print dialog box to start the print job.Please try to print without the grayscale option enabled. If the report was fine and the grayscale setting didn't help, this might be a driver issue. Please download and run the Print and Scan Doctor, it will likely diagnose and resolve the issue you are experiencing. What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
    Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck!

    I have just updated Acrobat to version 10.1.13. I am using a MAC Running Yosemite.  When I try to scan a document, after the printer scans Adobe Acrobat quits and I get an unexpected closure error.  I am running Mac OS 10.10.1.  This only started happening when I installed the update of Adobe Acrobat.

    Hi MEW1,
    Is the printer connected wirelessly or wired?
    Go to Preferences and under categories go to > Convert to Pdf then select the Image Capture and then hit ok button.
    Close Acrobat and then relaunch it and see if it helps you while you do scanning.

  • Can't print scanned pdf files  Xerox 3450  Adobe Pro and Reader 9

    I have a user that cannot print PDF's made up of scanned images to a network printer.
    The job goes to the printer and spools up but hangs at either 64kb or 255kb and then errors out.
    Even if I print just one page, it does the same thing.
    Folks with Acrobat Pro 8 or Reader 8 can print the same file to the same printer with no problems.
    OS: XP
    Network Printer: Xerox Phaser 3450 PS
    Adobe:  Reader 9.1.3 and  Acrobat Professional 9.1.3
    I have tried the following:
    On the Xerox 3450 PS Printer:
    - disabling Advanced Printing Options
    - changing Post script options to: EPS, optimize for speed, optimize for portablity
    - reloading the printer drivers
    - unmapping/remapping the printer on the customer's system.
    In the Reader and Acrobat Pro print options:
    - print only Document rather than Document and Markups
    - print as image
    - unchecked 'convert to true type1'
    - changed options to Send for each page, send by range,
    - tried using Language level 2
    - reinstalling Adobe Reader 9
    This happens once the customer is upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.  If I disable the 'Advanced Printer options' he can print OCR/Text PDF files but cannot print even a single page Scanned image PDF file. The spooler hangs at 255kb and then the print job errors out.
    I confirmed this  same issue on multiple machines and on other Xerox 3450 printers on multiple print servers.  It is the same for Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.
    The machines and  users are in different parts of the country on different print servers but the symptoms are the same: after being upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.1.3 or Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 they cannot send certain PDF files (so far just scanned image files) to a Xerox 3450 PS network printer.
    Any suggestions on what to try next would be appreciated.

    This problem plagued me for several weeks, until I found a solution that has allowed me to print scanned documents as quickly as a text document.
    I have confirmed this worked on several network X3450 printers using Adobe Reader 9.1.3 and Adobe Acrobat Professional v9.1.3
    In the Reader and Acrobat Pro print options:
        Click on the Advanced button and uncheck "Print as image" if it's checked.
        Click on "Let printer determine colors" to enable this option
        Click OK and Print.
    After making this change, the document queued up and printed as fast a any text document printed.
    I had a single page scanned text document which was about 19 KB, but when sent to the printer, the spooler grew from 10 MB to 50 MB to 80 MB, until an error occurred. Like you I tried many combinations until one worked. Then it was a matter of figuring out which setting was primarily responsible for allowing it to print quickly.
    Most likely the problem is with the raster image processor (RIP) within Adobe Reader and Acrobat. By selecting the option to "Let the printer determine colors", it passes that part of the processing over to the RIP within the printer. Since the X3450 is not a color printer, the information is easily converted to grayscale and printed.
    I'm still trying to absorb the information in the articles I have read so far, and I welcome any discussion about this from those more knowledgeable than I.
    I hope this fix works for you as it did for me. I made a lot of happy customers once they were able to print since most of their documents are scanned rather than created with Acrobat.

    I am looking for an All in One Print/scan/copy. It should support print from USB Flash drive and scan to the same.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You may check the HP Officejet 6600/6700 models which support USB Flash drivers.

  • Scanning in Mavericks? I can no longer use the scanning function in my HP Officejet 4500. HP says to go through Preview, Image Capture, or Print/Scan in System Prefs. Still doesn't work. Any ideas/similar experiences?

    Scanning in Mavericks? I can no longer use the scanning function in my HP Officejet 4500.
    HP says to go through Preview, Image Capture, or Print/Scan in System Prefs.
    Still doesn't work. Any ideas/similar experiences?

    Sure it is, yet it's called HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MFP Series *
    Today, I followed your other advice, and deleted the printer, deleted the /Library/Printer/hp folder, downloaded the entire set of driver, re-installed the printer twice, once with the driver, once with Bonjour.
    The Bonjour Printer has the scan option active, but it is doesn't work (refer to above.), it is called M1217nfw
    The Apple Driver Printer doesn't show the scan option at all, it is called M1217nf (as on the http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP list.) This model number doesn't exist, as far as I can tell.
    Still, everything works perfectly in Snow Leopard, for a MF printer that has been manufactured years after Snow Leopard was released.
    Why going up in software version means going backwards in compatiblity for brand new product is really the question that puzzles me here.

  • HP Laserjet 5000N not listed in Print & Scan with Mavericks

    Hi,
    my old HP Laserjet 5000N that is connected via ethernet to a Airport Extreme does not show in Print & Scan. I had this setup before with a Mac mini Macos 10.6, but since i have a new Mac mini (2013) running Mavericks i do not see the printerdriver in Print & Scan. After clicking the [+] i can't 'Add' since it is not active (light grey). I'v downloaded 'HPPrinterDriver2.16.1.dmg' and installed it, but no change ..
    Any help?
    Best,

  • Print & Scan differences Snow Leopard vs. Lion?

    I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A910a) AiO Printer/Scanner.  It is connected to my network and accessible to many of our home devices including an iMac, a MacBook Pro, iPads and iPhones (via AirPrint).  For the purposes of this topic, I'll refer to it as the HP_8500.  My question is about scanning.
    The MacBook Pro runs Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  When I open System Preferences > Print & Scan, it lists the HP_8500 as one of the printers and lists its name, "Open Print Queue...", "Options & Supplies..." etc.  There does not appear to be any way to initiate Scan capabilities from this window.  So I must use either Preview or Image Capture to activate the scanner.
    The iMac runs Lion 10.7.1.  When I open System Preferences > Print & Scan, it lists the HP_8500 same as above, except at the top of the window there are two buttons "Print / Scan" at the top of the frame.  So I can easily toggle to Scan to initiate scanning.
    Is this in fact a known difference between Snow Leopard and Lion regarding Scanning?  In other words, is there a way to get the Print/Scan button in my Print & Scan window under Snow Leopard or not?  Or is this only available under Lion?
    Thanks.

    This change was introduced in Lion. For 10.6, the Print & Scan button as seen in Lion would only occur for USB connected AIOs, and only if an ICA driver was present on the Mac. For networked AIOs, there was the ability to add a separate scanner providing a scanner driver was installed on the 10.6 Mac. Here is the view on my 10.6 Mac showing a Canon MP990 AIO and a Canon LiDE 200 standalone scanner, listed under the heading of Scanners.

  • Printing/Scanning Problem with HP All-In-One

    As you will see, I am a bit confused as to how my Mac is talking to my HP all in one. I am having printing and scanning problems. When I try to print, nothing happens. I go to print status and the print job is there but the printer is not printing. I try pausing, deleting and trying to print again, hold to no avail. It recognizes the job, it just won't print.
    Scanning is similar. Most of the time I end up with an error message "The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device". It directs me to restart the program, close all programs, re-boot the computer. I have done all of these and no go. In addition, no other programs are running at the time.
    As far as my computer recognizing the HP, it does in both wifi and bluetooth. I have made it my default printer.
    I have a time capsule as a router and everything is set up properly for it. Four bars are shown indicating it is acting properly. Both it and bluetooth are turned on. The HP status lights are on for both wifi and bluetooth.
    I have checked with HP and Apple Support and could not find anything that addresses my issue. Please help!!
    Thanks

    I had a similar problem awhile back with my HP F2210 all-in-one. I basically re-downloaded all of the software for the printer from HPs site. Before re-installing, I did a safe boot. Then, I reinstalled and restarted and all was well. When software update told me there was a new driver available, I installed it and things still worked. I'm able to print, scan, and all the printer is supposed to do without a hitch.

  • Success! How to Print/Scan on network (Win7 & HP 2710)

    OK, I can't say that this will work for everyone considering how many different setups there are out there, but I was able to Print and Scan over my network using the HP software for my Photosmart 2710.  This works about 95% of the way.  The extra 5% I'll explain:
    1) I keep getting a "device driver failed to install" error on restarting the PC.  This only happens on a PC restart and you can silence the message if you want (although it may slience any other hardware install messages with it).  The funny thing is that the printer/scanner still work perfectly fine even with error.
    2) It seems Win7 programs still can't "see" the scanner and it appears to be "half installed"... I'm able to view the scanner properties, but when I select "Scan Profiles" I get an error saying "no scaners are insalled.  However, the HP software can see and use the scanner AND you can press the "scan" button on the printer and get the scanner to load the HP software to capture the scan.
    3) Final Notes:  Printing seems to work perfectly from any program in Win7, and I'm unable to test the Fax since I'm not setup for that.
    4) Lastly, my "UAC" was turned off so I'm unware of any extra "are you sure?" messages you may get.
    ~~~~~How to get the HP Photosmart 2710 to Print, Scan... and maybe Fax over the network with Windows 7~~~~~
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (Fresh install -- Installed Win7 then Installed the HP software to ensure no conflicts)
    Network Connection: Wired through a Belkin N+ router (did not use the 2710's wifi)
    Status: HP Digital Monitor can see and track the printer and scanner, some scanning options may not work if your not using the HP software.
    How to:
    1) Download the latest "HP Officejet and Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers" package (about 164MB large)" for Windows VISTA (32bit & 64bit) and the 2710 and save to your desktop.  Of course you should double check to ensure there's not a new Windows 7 software package available... just in case HP decided to help us out.  If there is, download that instead and ingore the rest of this post. ;-)
    2) Now goto "Start", "Control Panel", "System & Security", "Windows Firewall".  On the left panel select "Turn Windows Firewalll on or off".  Now ensure that both "Turn Off Windows Firewall" options are selected... save your settings.  ALSO, ensure you've turned off any other 3rd party firewalls that may be running "ZoneAlarm, Norton, Symantec, etc".  Finally, you may need to double check your router settings, although if the printer was working before Windows 7... chances are your network is fine.
    3) Now "Right Click" on the driver package sitting on your desktop and select "troubleshoot compatibility"... once Win7 gets done "detecting problems" make sure you select "Troubleshoot Program" (2nd option).  Now select "I don't see my problem listed" and click "Next".
    4) On the new screen select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and click "Next" and then select "I don't see my problem listed"... finally, click the "Start the program..." button that appears.
    5) During the install slide the extra "program compatibility" window out of the way (leaving it open) and allow the installer to do it's work.  If everything goes to plan all the HP software should be installed and your printer should be detected on the network.  Once the installer is all done you can close out the extra window and if you so choose you can "save these settings for this program".
    6)  Restart the PC for good measure and you should be able to run the 2710... keep in mind that you'll probably get the "device driver failed to install" message, but again I've not seen any real problem with that message yet.
    7)  Now you can slow turn the windows firewall and any other 3rd party firewall settings back to what they were before.. keeping in mind that you might  have to give permission for the HP software to passthrough the firewalls you have running for it to work correctly.
    Hope this helps, until HP does.   I'll try to answer any questions to the best of my ability.  Sorry about any spelling errors.
    TK.
    Thank you for the above. It got me most of the way, but I had to do a few more bits to get the drivers to work correctly on Windows 7 Professional.
    * Install windows 7
    * Install anti virus/spam/firewall solution
    * Install the 'basic' inbuilt windows 7 printer driver for the HP 2710. Then check it will print, so know printer works
    * Turn off the firewall used on windows 7
    * Installs the Vista drivers for the HP 2710, under vista service pack 2 compatibility mode, as above
    * Download and install the Vista Reboot patch for Windows 7 upgrade (I think this stops the driver message at startup)
    * At this point the printer worked, but scanner did not.
    * Download and install the Windows 7 c309a All in 1 Photosmart software. Ignore when it looks for the c309a printer, and say complete the install. Basically this looks to be a newer photosmart based on the same software solution as the original HP2710. As it over-installs the 2710 software & drivers, it automatically fixes the bits that the 2710 install did not get right.
    * Turn on your firewall
    * Reboot the windows 7 PC
    * On startup allow the HP software to access the different network bits (say Yes) to can HPxxxx access networks etc..
    * Update Win7 with microsoft updates
    * Reboot PC
    Now after a few reboots the PC starts with a full patched Win 7 Operating System and the HP 2710 can Print, Scan, Fax as normal. Now I can use the HP2710 for another year until it breaks on me.
  • [SOLVED] Anyone managed to get a Lexmark X1180 printing/scanning?
    Has anyone managed to get a Lexmark X1180 printing/scanning?
    If so mind sharing how that was accomplished.
    I also bought an x1110 some years ago back in my winblows days.
    I had the scanner partly working before i threw it in the shed.  I was never able to get the printer working
    By partly working I mean the whole A4 scan did not work, it would capture a quarter of the page and blank the rest out.
    I'm not sure if the error was with the hardware or software. I remember I used it via Gimp and I think it was on Ubuntu 6.04
    I just gave up. There are so many working brands out there, Lexmark just isn't one of them.
    I prefer laser than ink printers (I hate buying cartridges every month or have the system stuck with dry ink when not used for a month).
    There are some good brother laserprinters, e.g. MFC7860DW, but PC-Fax doesn't work on Mac (I believe).
    Thanks to anybody with some good ideas.
    Thanks baltwo, but I am looking for a printer-copier-scanner-fax machine. I think I might go with the brother
    mainly because more and more people seem to have bad experiences with HP printers in the $150-$300 range and manufactured in recent years;
