well i got my hp laptop in janaury and i cant remeber when it was but i downloaded windows 8.1 as it kept coming up on laptop to do that so i did and wished i didnt as it wiped off my cd disc drive everything else worked so i restored it back to factory settings but the cd disc drive was still missing which i didnt use any way but i thought before warranty runs out i'll send it back to hp so i did a online chat with someone from hp and she took over they laptop to see if she could fix it but she couldnt so she said restore it back to factory settings which i told her i already did that but it didnt do it so she arranged for it to get picked up so it got picked up the day after i got a message saying they cant fixed it under there warranty due to liquid damage which i cant recall spilling anything on my laptop so they were sending it back so  i rang someone local in my area who fixes laptops and computer told them what i had i had done dowloading windows 8.1 which straight away i shouldnt of done but any way she quoted me £35 do put the disc drive back on so i said as soon as i get my laptop back off hp i will take it in hot my laptop back from them yesterday and it wouldnt let me typed my password in to get on the keyboard wasnt working so i rang them up telling them and they said theres nothing they can do as it not under the warranty because if the liquid damaged but they are the ones what have done it as it wasnt like that before so i managed to get on my laptop as i got a on screen keyboard i put my password in that way but when i got on it still wouldnt let me type anything so i refresh my laptop to see if that would do anything  the laptop started refreshing and went off i tried to to turn it bk on it  and it says  please install and operating system on your hard disk 3fo f2 diagnostics for more information visit  www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup it was working pefectly fine apart from i couldnt put a disc in before i sent it back to them i cant be dealing with this stress im 6 month pregnant its neally xmas but they said they will fix it for a fee of £278 so i dont know what they have done but they wont get another penny off me i wont get anything from hp again it cost me £400 for the laptop warranty meens nothing they send it back worse than what it was

I  grasp that you purchased a new notebook in January.  You updated to Windows 8.1 and you lost functionality of the CD/DVD drive.   As you were not using it at the time, you were not too concerned.
You decided that before the warranty had expired you would have it looked at.  You sent it in for repair and were informed it was caused by a spilled liquid and it would not be covered under warranty.  You declined the offer, but once it was returned to you the keyboard did not function.  You were able to log in using the virtual on screen keyboard and started doing a refresh your PC. It powered off but when you tried to power it back on you got an error that you need to reinstall your operating system.
I truly regret that you have has such a tussle with this and know how exasperating it can be!
First there is a difference between a refresh you PC and a recovery.  A refresh will try to reinstall the OS but not affect your files.  A recovery will delete the partitions and  reformat the drive before reinstalling the Original Operating System.
I suggest you do a recovery back to factory.   Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8)
Here is a link to  Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 8) should you have a difficulty.
You will have an opportunity to backup your personal files during the recovery process.  If you do not have your data backed up, now is the perfect opportunity to prevent data loss.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8)
Once you have completed this run the  HP Support Assistant   to obtain any HP updates.
Once you have Windows reinstalled and up to date here is a link to  HP & Windows 8.1 Update  that should assist you with that update if you choose.  There are drivers listed for Windows 8.1 and your system.

  • WRT120N no longer recognized by laptops

    I'm not quite sure where the problem lies, so I'm going to go over everything that happened so I can hopefully get an answer. Any help is MUCH appreciated.
    We were running a few laptops (Acer Aspire 5517 on Vista) off our WRT120N router wirelessly. We have it hooked up to a wireless modem. All signs show that the modem and router are running fine. The wireless network we were using, I'll call it Network-1, stopped showing up as an option in the wireless connect menu. Prior to this all the laptops could connect to Network-1 by wire or wirelessly without a problem. I don't know what happened to start the problem, but Network-1 is no longer a wireless network option.
    When I wire a laptop to the router, it connects to the internet and says it's currently connected to Network-1. But when I try to connect the wireless network via a wired connection, the new network I set doesn't show up in the connection menu. When I try to set up the router again (while the computer is wired), I get the error message "Windows did not detect any wireless network hardware". So it seems that although I am able to get an internet connection through the router, the computer is not recognizing it.
    One of the laptops is able to connect wirelessly through a different network (Network-2). It looks like Network-2 was set up automatically by the laptop. Another laptop has Network-2 as an option, but it says the network security key is wrong. I have no idea what the password might be, the computer where Network-2 works connects automatically, I haven't had to type a password. I'm not sure what happened here, if it's two different connections with the same name, or if it's the same thing. I don't even know if this is relevant.
    Again, we would be SO grateful for any help!

    Well i think due to some reason the wireless settings of your Router must have got resetted, that's the reason you are unable to see your wireless network name. So you need to Hardwired you computer to the Router and login to the router setup page and change the wireless settings of your Router.
    Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
    Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
    Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
    Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
    NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
    Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
    Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

    We don't know what Apple plans on doing to change this (and it may not be just Apple but more likely the publishers, since Apple would, of course, do whatever it could to maximize sales/profits).  Right now you can only read Apple books on mobile devices. Sure, buy them from Amazon if you want to read them on the computer. We don't work for Apple so we're pretty impartial on this kind of advice.
    You might also see what your library can offer.  My wife can browse the county library from her iPhone, borrow e-versions, and read books on it too.  Free!

  • Email address change--how does this affect laptop and nook?

    I use my Adobe ID only to authorize my laptop and Nook.  I need to change my email address which seems easy on the FAQs, but how do I then reauthorize my laptop and Nook?  And, if I do this, are all my existing library books unreadable since they were downloaded by what the Nook thinks is a different user?  I'm almost sure I won't be able to return any books in ADE on my laptop, but I can live with that if I can still read the books on the Nook.

    The sync process with iTunes transfers the email account settings (for your chosen accounts via your iPhone sync preferences) from the Mail application on your Mac to the iPhone's email application.
    The iPhone is running OS X and the iPhone's email client can be considered a mobile version of the Mail application.

    I have a new Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion that is damaged and won't turn on. I have the drive removed and can access it using a docking station attached to my iMac running 10.6.
    What is the simplest way to backup the data from this drive so that after the laptop is repaired I can return my data to the Macbook Pro?

    Using Disk Utility to clone a drive will automatically erase the Destination drive if it isn't already erased. To backup to a drive with stuff already on it you would need to use a backup utility like one of these:

      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
    Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
    Be sure the backup utility is NOT configured to erase all files on the destination that are not on the source. If there are files identical to those already on the drive, then they will be overwritten.

  • How to take mailboxes from desktop drive to laptop and back?

    I want to copy my e-mail messages (in their user-created mailboxes) from my main G5 to my laptop so I can review them elsewhere, then return them to the G5. I thought I could just copy the Mailboxes folder (or maybe the whole massive Mail folder), place that the corresponding folder in my laptop user Library, then do the same when I get home -- replace the older mailboxes folder with a revised version.
    But when I do so, I get a mailbox in the laptop's Mail, but no messages in it.
    What am I doing wrong? This should be an easy task, I would think.

    The file format used by Mail changed drastically in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). Mail 2.x knows about the old data format and can import mailboxes created by Mail 1.x, but Mail 1.x knows nothing about the new data format used by Mail 2.x. Actually, the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x mailboxes is broken and Mail 2.x sometimes can only import Mail 1.x mailboxes as Other, but that’s another story...
    Although *.mbox packages appear to be files in Mac OS X 10.3, they’re actually folders just like in Mac OS X 10.4, but Mac OS X 10.3 treats them differently because of the .mbox suffix. Ctrl-click on an *.mbox package and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu to see the files it contains.
    For each mailbox, Mail 1.x stores all the messages in a single file in standard mbox format (the mbox file within the *.mbox folder/package), whereas Mail 2.x stores messages in individual *.emlx files within a Messages folder that Mail 1.x knows nothing about.
    You need something like emlx to mbox Converter or Emailchemy to convert the *.emlx files to standard mbox format in order to be able to import them (as Other / Standard mbox) in Mail 1.x.

    You need to talk with the tax authorities in the countries to which you traveled and that of your home country. We are all end-users liek you and not Apple agents.

    IBM is one of the best brand as I know, especially showing us not only high quality of products but the service.
    But now one thing happened to me, if I don't have this case I can't believe. I found there is something with the laptop(T61 Model 7658CTO) the same day when I got the new laptop on June 3rd, 2008. Then I call 800, a lot of 800 calls,at last I were told that I should contact send it back first if I were to get another new one. Three days later I got the box sent by Lenovo, and I return it back in terms of what the paper shown.
    Unfortunately the problems of the laptop still exist when I turn on my laptop after it repaired. What's wrong with my laptop, this is new one, I think IBM should provide high quality products.
    I don't know how to describe the weird sound , it sounds like two or more micphone opened clost to each other. It is very harsh.
    I want to get one new laptop from Lenovo because of the quality of product and customer service or can I return the laptop?

    I did it last week because I bought an iPhone 4 as a wedding gift but then I changed my mind and wanted an iPad, so the bride could use it together with the groom (while the phone is personal).
    I returned the iPhone to the apple store and I paid the difference to buy the 32GB iPad, no problems
    I didn't opened the case, but the guy at the apple store told me I could have returned the phone even if it was opened. It must be undamaged tough.

    Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device.     no...the T400 has only the VGA output...I bought a cable which has on the first end ...VGA input and on the other end ...the standards jacks (red,yellow,white)...was not working at all...also I found something here...http://www.shopiogear.com/store/iogear/en_CA/pd/productID.196475400/categoryId.42447600...is with an external DVI at the end...will check now if there are some cable with internal DVI and on the other end composite jacks...thanks for your help.
