HP Photosmart Wireless B109n-z will come online but not STAY online!

In a nutshell: I own a HP B109n-z. It will connect on power on as it should to my main wireless access point and print from all computers on the network. After a while the printer will go offline. Web-interface cannot be reached, the printer will not respond to ping.
To remedy the situation, turn of printer, turn on again on front switch. Printer will connect to wireless AP and print in less than a minute. The printer is currently located 30 miles away from me, so hitting on/off is not an option for me. This printer needs to just STAY online as long as access point and power is supplied. I am - as I write this - connected via remote desktop to my Win 2k8 server, and I get no response when I ping the printer - however everything else on the network works, and I actually see the printer in my routers wireless section. It is just if the printer is in some kind of hibernation.
I've read several topics about the HP Photosmart Wireless B109n-z that goes offline and it seems to be a general problem with this printer. It also seems to be a generel answer from HP forum operators to ask what router the user is using - and then stating that that particular brand of router is flawed and the newest firmware should be installed, then try again. That move seems like a stall to me.
Please - dearest HP support  - do NOT give me that answer. EVERYTHING else in my network setup works, and works ALL the time, every single day. The problem, whatever it is, clearly resides in the printer itself. All my automated daily network operations with regards to back-up and file distribution and automatic emails, plus remote operations have all been running every day for more than a year without needing maintenance. The frustration with this issue is immense.
Please help me get this solved once and for all. Help me make the printer stay online until I turn it off.
My setup:
1: Main ADSL-modem/router/wireless accesspoint is some kind of Sagem - and I can't do anything about that, it is provided by the only ISP that operates in the area (I live in Denmark). Don't know what box it is - but it uses 'Fast3504_5AD038' firmware. Broadcasts SSID, using 802.11 b + g and WPA/WPA2, running DHCP
HP B109n-z have static IP outside of DHCP range, and is placed ind same subnet as the rest of the network.
2: Attached hardware to entire network:
One Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Dell machine cabled to the Sagem box. Running 24/7/365, controlled externally  using MSTSC remote desktop every day.
One Linksys WRT54GL router cabled to the Sagem box, running DD-WRT firmware, used as a secondary wireless acces point with its own SSID. Provides wireless internet acces 24/7/364 for laptops and smartphones in the house.
Three HD digital TVs cabled to the Sagem box, receiving IP-tv signal (individually, not same channel/signal)
2 phonelines (sharing number)
The WRT54GL have a cabled connection to a Windows 7 X64 workstation, providing internet access via cabled onboard LAN from workstation and cabled connection from WRT54GL to Sagem box. Used every day, most of the day.
3 laptops connects wireless to the WRT54GL access point, which in turn - as said before - is cabled to the primary Sagem box, used every day, most of the day
HP B109n-z connects to the wireless access point given by the Sagem box without problems.
All three TVs are connected with CAT-6 cable, all other cables are CAT-5
Best regards,
A danish person

OK, I'll give it a shot, but ISP-supplied routers can cause lots of problems - search these forums and you will see that.
Let's set a static IP at the printer, which includes directing the printer to the DNS server, which is sometimes helpful:
Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). You can find the DHCP range of the router using its internal settings page or in its manual. Use the CD that came with your router or type the router's IP address (ends in .1) into a browser.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
- Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
If this does not work, you can add a "standard" router (Linksys, Netgear or such) to your ISP router and turn off the ISP's wireless.   I have seen this work well many times.  You can turn the ISP's DHCP off as well, but you may have to open a port to the "standard" router.  Attach all devices to the "standard" router.

  • My MBP died while it was updating and now it will boot up, but not stay on

I got the new MacBook Pro 13" for Christmas this year (2012).. The other day I was updating it and I guess it died because now it will show the Apple Logo boot up symbol and then it will just shut off.. What can I do? The nearest Apple Store is about 2 1/2 hours away and I have NO TIME to make it down there until next weeekend. Are there any suggestions for what I can do? Thank you all so much!

Your MBP shutting off is not a good sign.  AS are not the only places that repair Macs.  There may be an AASP that is closer.

  • Printing with HP Photosmart Wireless B109N

    Hello,
Could someone tell me if HP Photosmart Wireless B109N is compatible with printing on iOS 4.2.1 ?
Because it doesn't work for me...
    Thank you!

The B109 is not on the list of printers that implement AirPrint:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
    http://www.hp.com/sbso/printing/mac/apple-airprint.pdf
This year's version of that printer, the B110, does support AirPrint

  • POP account will not stay online.  Goes offline even after I "take account

My POP account will not stay online, even when I "take" the account "online" via the mailbox drop-down in the menu bar. I don't think the ISP or the internet connection is the problem as I have three other mailboxes with the same ISP and they all work fine.
Why might the POP account be failing to hold its online status and what can O do about it.
Thanks for your help with my problem.

Hi, and a warm welcome to the Forums!
First I'd backup your whole Mail folder.
Try dragging this file to the Desktop first, then logout/in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Can drag back if it doesn't help.
If that doesn't work try the .plists in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/
In your home folder, try trashing this folder after quitting Mail...
    /Library/Caches/Mail

I tightened all HD screws and it didn't help. With the machine running and side of the case off, I physically stopped both the video card fan and the front case fan with my finger for a couple seconds and the noise continued. I also took all hard drives out one by one and rebooted each time. Again, the noise continued until I took out the Mac HD in Bay 1, rebooted, and I had a very quiet, silent machine. The issue is the hard drive in bay 1 that shipped with the computer, it's without a doubt causing the hum/woosh sound. I still need to know if I can safely swap the Mac HD from bay 1 to bay 4 without any issues to the operating system. I would like to try that to see if it dampens the noise but I also want to make sure this swap won't screw up my machine at all.

  • If I remove itunes and its drivers from my computer, as recommended by someone at the Apple store for a problem I'm having, I know my music will come back, but will my playlists still be there as they are now?

If I remove itunes and its drivers from my computer, as recommended by someone at the Apple store for a problem I'm having, I know my music will come back, but will my playlists still be there as they are now? I forgot to ask.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • How to publish iWeb online but not through iCloud but someone else?

How to publish iWeb online but not through iCloud but someone else?
    Mybe Google or woodpress,
Or publish iWeb online with iCloud WITHOUT upgrading Lion?

iWeb will still be around but as Jeff pointed out if you want a blog with visitors comments you should consider converting your iWeb blog to  WordPress.  Rage Software has created an applicaiton that will convert your current iWeb blog w/visitor comments to a Wordpress blog. You can get the application here: Convert Your iWeb Blog to a WordPress Blog.
If you don't have visitor comments then the iWeb blog will continue to work for you on a 3rd party FTP server.
If you have photo pages in your website with the accompanying slideshow you'll need to read the following:
It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

  • Will read DVDs but not CDs

I have a satellite a305-s6872 that will read dvds but not cds.  It was reading cds the last time I tried (October) but now it's not.  This means that I can't play or burn cds.  It also means that I can't install any programs that come on a cd.  Please help!

I have the same problem. It reads DVDs, and rejects CDs, even perfect/new CDs.
Apple Support told me there will soon be a software update (in a week?) to fix this problem, but I am not convinced.

    Hi,
Apple's AirPrint only support specific models while using wired or wireless network connection.
Plugging a printer into a USB port of Apple base is not supported for AirPrint:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
As well you must use AirPrint enabled printers for a such, none of your printers are AirPrint enabled:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
There are 3rd party solutions which allow sharing a printer connected to your Mac as AirPrint, Printopia as example provide a such:

  • Skype For iOS 7 Is Not Staying Online (Connected) ...

As of today, Skype does not stay online/connected and able to receive calls after being minimized for a given period of time.
PROBLEM: I have updated to the latest version of iOS 7 and have the latest version of Skype for my iPhone 4S. While I notices a few improvements I have an even bigger issue now. Skype will not stay onine/connected to the internet and standing by to take phone calls.
It does not take long after minimizing Skype that it goes into some dormant state that either iOS is putting Skype into or Skype itself is simply not working as it should and keeping itself awake. It is not immediate after minimizing Skype but I can say it does not take longer than 10 minutes.
If you have the SOLUTION please post, otherwise keep the restart and reinstall suggestions out.

Registered here to confirm the same or a similar issue here too, as it seems they could be related. If I lock my phone, but allow Skype to continue running in the background, it seems to work perfectly fine for a while. My contacts see me as online, and I can still receive text and incoming call notifications.
However, if I leave it for a while, my contacts see me as offline. From what I understand, if they attempt to call me or message me while I'm appearing in this offline state, they will still be sent to my iPhone and I'll receive them as normal - however it's impossible for my contacts to be able to tell if I'm really there or not since I'm appearing offline.
I'm not sure how long it takes from locking the phone to this issue occuring, but it seems to be perhaps around an hour to two hours. I would just wake up my phone every now and then, but since my contacts are in different time zones and I may be asleep when they wish to call, I can't always simply repeatedly wake the phone up.
If I do manually switch back to the Skype app while it is in this offline state, I notice it will either refresh my contacts list when the app is opened, or it will display the "Signing In" screen briefly before returning to my contacts list - as if the app is going offline or being halted in the background, and when I manually switch back to it, it's being forced to "wake up" again.
Now, my settings already have me set to "Go Offline: Never". I've deleted and reinstalled Skype already. The phone has been reset several times. It looks like something that may need to be looked into further by the Skype team as it seems to be a potential issue - the "Go Offline: Never" preference isn't working as expected under iOS 7.
My device is an iPhone 4S (16GB) running iOS 7.0.3. It's almost always connected to WiFi and Background App Refresh is enabled (whether the last one has any relevance is beyond me, but some app devs have had issues with it so I figured it was worth mentioning in case).
