HP Proliant DL380 G7 Installation questions.

Hi guys.
The disks of HP NT server in my office has been physically damaged.
So I need to re - install a ms windows 2008 r2.
And I am going to take this opportunity to update everthing.
But unfortunately, This is my first time to install the ms nt o/s.
So please advice.
1. I would like to update the firmware.
I have already downloaded it from HP.
But I don't know when should I update it (before I installed the O/S? or after the O/S installation?)
2. I would like to configure RAID 5.
Should I configure it in CMOS or using smart start?
3. I would like to know what exactly purpose of Smart start and I should know.
Thank you in advance.

  • Solaris 10 x86 installation problem on ProLiant DL380..

I'm trying to put Sol10 b72 on a dual-proc ProLiant DL380 here, with the Compaq 5i array controller.
I have the Solaris 9 drivers from HP; they seem to work just fine for the installation.
The problem comes at the end of the first disc.
    Sidebar:
For one thing (and this drove me NUTS until I got lucky and caught it during a reboot), at the end of the install, on the console, it asks for the driver diskettes..again.
The problem is, it doesn't say this ANYWHERE else, only on the console..and if you're doing the installation in the X desktop, you just never know it. It doesn't write this to the xconsole window. I tried installing a good 5-6 times before, instead of hitting the power button out of frustration after the install just hung again, I actually opened up a terminal and typed 'reboot'..and caught the "Please insert the diskette and press Enter" as it killed X. If anyone at Sun is reading this..you may want to fix this, before someone gets very frustrated that their installations never seem to finish...
    End Sidebar.
So...I'm doing the console text install (otherwise you'll never see the message to insert the driver diskettes for the Broadcom NIC and the Compaq array), and sure enough, at the end of the install, it asks for the diskette. I pop in the diskette it's specifically asking for (the Compaq array diskette in this instance), and hit enter. It chugs for a second and then says it can't find the driver on the diskette.
Which is incorrect, because if it haden't found it on the diskette during the device configuration assistant phase during bootup, it wouldn't have even been able to install Solaris.
So..what's up? Anyone have any ideas why Solaris finds it one time but can't find it later? Is this a bug or problem in the installation script?
    Thanks,
    Greg

problem 1 is that it's looking for ../../s0.. Which I
    managed to
fake out by creating the dir in the same mount
    point.
Problem 2 is that it can't find .tmp_proto, which I
    must
concur with. I can't find that on any of the b72 cd
    images.
So, the setup_install_server fails. This seems to be the problem when you try to setup an install
server on a Solaris SPARC system for Solaris x86 clients, using
the Solaris 9 or Solaris 10/Express CD media.
There's a Solaris x86 UFS filesystem on slice 0 on the CD media,
and it's supposed to be mounted on the "s0" mount point,
    otherwise setup_install_server won't work. On a Solaris x86 box,
vold mounts it automatically for you: /cdrom/cdrom0/s2 is the
mount point for the platform independant ISO9660 part of the CD
media, /cdrom/cdrom0/s0 is the UFS root filesystem.
    Problem is that Solaris SPARC:
    - does not understand Solaris x86 disk labels
    - does not allow mounting x86 UFS filesystems
    (and vice versa).
AFAIK, Solaris 9 DVD media does not have this problem. I
guess the same will be true when Solaris 10 DVD media is
available in a few months. On the DVD media there's enough
free space to include an extra copy of the files in the ISO9660
    filesystem.

  • Does HP Proliant DL380 G4 work with Solaris 10?

    Hi everybody!!!
Id like to know if anybody made HP Proliant DL380 G4 work with solaris 10.
I didnt find this server in HCL for solaris 10.
has anybody tried to install solaris 10 on this server?
    tnx very much
    regards
    The player

I've tried. The biggest stumbling block is the RAID controller if you are using one. I was using a Smart Array 5300 but couldn't find a driver. As memory serves me, and it was a year ago on a G3 with version 9, you need to use the second or third ( I forget) CD for Solaris and not the first to set it up and you need a startup diskette (my name for it, Sun calls it somethig else) with the array driver on it. It was a real pain especially when my version of Red Hat Liniux found the controller right off the bat and installed nicely with NO errors. I think Sun's clunky installation needs some work to make it work better. Maybe Solaris 10 is different.

  • Sound card or virtual sound card for HP Proliant DL380 G5

    Greetings.
I need help. I have an extremely useful and great HP Proliant DL380 G5 server, I had a technician who had installed a software to this server due (according to his word) it didn't have a sound card attached to it. Now, due he was fired from the company for several issues he uninstall all software for sound devices, confirming this sever didn't have a sound card or sound dirver. I need to know the following. 1.- What kind of sound card do i need to install in my server, if possible? 2.- where i could find a virutal sound card or driver that help me out to solve this issue.
I am not a computer literate relate to servers and how they work, I am in the learning curve at this moment, I don't have to much experience working with severs, this is one of those first time handling situations once they show up. Learning to avoid technicians doing the same in the future and leaving the company in a serious situation.
I do appreciate any help you guys can provide me over this.
    Best Regards

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Installation Question

How can I tell if my software installed properly? The software came with three discs, and it only installed the first disc. I am new to Photoshop, and do not know if my software installed properly? Can anyone help?

    Gautham K,
    Thank you for your quick replies. I have checked,and my OS is indeed 64 bit. I have been using the 32 bit version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, since I installed it last evening. I have a few quick questions;
Will I loose any functionality if I stay with the 32 bit version versus un-installing and installing the 64 bit version from disc 2?
If I decide to un-install, and re-install from disc 2, will there be any software registration issues (as I have already registered the software)?
Thanks again for all of your help.

  • Installation Questions Documaker 12.3 Enterprise Edition

We are looking to install Documaker 12.3 Enterprise Edition and have the following installation questions:
When installing Documaker can we have our own VM in our own OU for the WAS application servers? This will make maintenance easier on our side.  There doesn’t seem to be anything in the documentation saying this is a good or a bad idea.
Our WAS Admins would like to know what the scripts in the Post-Setup documentation actually do.  Is it possible to use our existing scripting environment to build the necessary pieces instead of using scripts from the documaker install?  If it’s not possible, can we get a look at the documaker scripts before we run them?
We would like to know if WAS 8.5 is supported, or if version 7.0.0.27 in the requirements pdf is the only version supported?

The typical installation scenario is to have 3 tiers - application (WAS), application (Documaker), and data. WAS tiers host web applications (Dashboard, Administrator, Interactive) as well as providing database connection pools and JMS queues for messaging - it is expected that the WAS environment is a clustered environment and that the applications are deployed to the cluster members, which can be physical or virtual. For the Documaker application server, these can be physical or virtual as well. It's recommended to install Documaker on single-purposes environments, however there's nothing to prevent you from doing otherwise. The Documaker applications are self-contained JVMs and can be tuned accordingly.

The installation process (currently) writes the scripts according to responses provided during the installation process. The scripts can be reviewed/modified prior to execution.
We would like to know if WAS 8.5 is supported, or if version 7.0.0.27 in the requirements pdf is the only version supported?
The official supported version of WAS is 7.0.0.27, however WAS 8.5 may be suitable (I believe there might be a fix pack requirement there - would recommend you submit a question to Oracle Support for verification).

  • Proliant DL380

I have a Proliant DL380 G3 with windows server 2003 . I am having some issues with the system being slow. So I opened the lid to check any LED issues. When I opened the lid I saw that CR59 is a solid green but CR55, CR42, CR43, CR47 and CR48 are all flashing an amber color at me. I was wondering what each CR represents? Also is it normal for them to flash or does that mean something is wrong? I don't know of any changes made to the system.
I looked at the diagram on the website but it does not list any of them. Also I tried to search for CR to see what they represent but I have not found anything. HELP PLEASE!!

  • Setting up my Proliant DL380 G4s as rendering slaves

    Hello All,
First time posting on this forum, so I am not sure if I am posting in the right place (forgive me if I am not).
I just picked up 3 Proliant DL380 G4 servers and was thinnking about using them as a rendering farm for my Adobe After Effects graphics program. I would like to control the server units from my desktop, which is running Windows 7.
Here is the specs of my desktop tower:
Asus board with core unlocking capabilities
4 core processor that unlocks to 6 cores
    16GB Ram
    Radeon 5570 Graphics card
    Server equiptment:
    3 x Proliant DL380 G4
Centrecom 3012sl network hub (I am unclear how to connect to this too).
    Thanks
    Jim
I was hoping to get some advice on the following details of this setup:
1.) Is it possible to do this?
2.) If so, what do I need to do to make the desktop talk to the servers (what software do I install on the servers?)
3.) Is there a free program of the software for the servers I can download?
4.) If this is doable, what kind of speed increase can I expect from this Fankenstien rig?

This isn't really the best forum for this, but I will provide you with information that should provide you a good starting point.  The speed increase will depend on how you set it up and what you're rendering.  I've rendered a few projects on my HP Envy i7 notebook that didn't seem to take so long so you must be doing some pretty heavy stuff to want to build a render farm.  Feel free to ask anything else, I'll do my best!

  • Solaris 10u6 fails to boot after installation on HP Proliant DL380 G4

    Hello,
I have used Solaris 10u5 without issues on the HP DL380 G4. However, when I tried to install update 6 (new installation), it fails to reboot. I starts to boot, then aborts and reboots the system. I added the arguments -av to help get more information. Here's what I was able to capture:

I have tried this on two identical machines with the same results. Some other details:
    - Booting into failsafe mode works; the system finds and mounts the zfs volumes
    - I did a network installation. I rebuilt the miniroot to include the CPQary3 package
    - I tried installing with a zpool with two disks as well as only one disk; the result was the same
    - I also tried installing without using a ZFS root disk; it also fails
I have googled for this problem but have not found anything like it. I would greatly appreciate any help!
    Thanks,
    Michael

I finally figured it out. For some reason, the installer does not install the driver package (CPQary3) or include it in the boot archive. The driver is in the fail-safe miniroot, however. So, I booted into fail-safe mode and installed the driver, and now everything works!
I ran into two problems with the installer on this hardware. I'll post details and work-arounds for both in a separate message.

    Hi community,
since one week we have new DL380 Gen9 servers. Now we want to install them as a Win 2008 R2 server, but we cannot create a NIC teaming.
If I install the HP NCO (Network Configuration Utility), cp023339.exe Version 10.90, I get

I updated driver / firmware of the NIC, searched any new HP Network Configuration Tools, nothing.
