HSQLDB in Eclipse's Database Explorer

In Eclipse's Database Explorer view, is there any way to get an HSQLDB or a generic database manager? Right now, when creating a New Connection, when it asks to "Select a database manager", it only gives options of DBs like DB2, Derby, MySQL, Oracle, and others...
If I'd like to use HSQLDB, how can I do so? I wouldn't mind using a generic Database Manager, but there's no generic option and one option must be selected! There's no way (at least based on what I've tried) to go without selecting a Database Manager.
Some really weird things show up when I connect, after entering the correct connection information but under an incorrect Database Manager...for example, in DB2, I see things like INFORMATION_SCHEMA, with a large number of tables underneath it...which only serves to confuse me...
I doubt that there's no support in the Database Explorer view for any JDBC database.
Any information on how I can use HSQLDB in Eclipse's Database Explorer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Derek,
you can get the Database Explorer with Eclipse updates. its just a regular eclipse plugin, not a cr4e one.

    I am a Newbie who wants to learn web development. it seems in older version of visual studio, when you add a database item in solution explorer there is a database explorer.
    but now in my visual studio 2013, if i add a database item, there is no database explorer to let me browse table or others below. Why? I installed SQL express and Visual Studio on windows 8.1 x64
    Also any pointers to free tutorial on the internet that lets me learn and practise working with database in a web application?

    Hello Lenny,
    Can you see Server Explorer in your VS? What about show us a sceenshot so that we can understand your problem.
    I do not have VS 2013 Community right now but in my point of view you should have related components. I will also install VS Community later and share you some info.

  • Can't see stored procedure in database explorer

    I'm using mysql 5.0. When I expan the database in database explorer, I can see only tables.  Stored procedure folder is shown there but when i try to expand it..nothing inside it.
    Anyone knew the solution,  Could u please help??!
    Thanks in advance.

    You'll need to publish the site to your remote server and post a URL here to get any help.  It could be you're testing locally and IE browser security is getting in the way.  Or it may be due to a missing file on server, etc...

  • A new database explorer project

    Hi folks!
    I've planed to write a new "database explorer" firtly I mean to use this project in my Java Developer Certification Exams, after(or before) I want to open the source and have another database explorer in the open source world. :)
    My firts ideas are around a different way to implement some things. I've seen few tools wich use the power of JDBC that abstract a lot of things for us, to retrieve the metadatas of a given database, but I want to implement a plug-in concept cause different databases have different resources/features and I want go so deep into these features.
    Then these plugins would implement those features, for example postgre has some tuning/performance resources that we don't have in firebird neither in oracle, and we have sequences in oracle and itsn't present in other databases.
    My question is if someone could point me some stuff to help me project this plug-in architecture? and is these kind of project a good option to use in the Java Developer Certification Exams?
    Thanks
    Leandro

  • Where is the Database-Explorer View in NWDI CE 7.1

    Hello,
    i tried the download for the nwdi ce 7.1 and i want to learn something about developing java ee5 applications on sap netweaver. for this i worked with the book "Java-Programmierung mit SAP Netweaver" and the document "Developting Java EE 5 Applications from Scratch".
    Working with this documents at some point one should use the Database-Explorer to create Java Entity-Objects. But my Netweaver Developer Studio CE 7.1 does not contain it. As mentioned by the documentation it should be started by Window->Show-View->Other->Data->Datbase Explorer. But even the Entry Data is missing under Window->Show-View->Other.

    Hi, Matthias,
    As of NW 7.1 CE, the Database Explorer view has been renamed to Data Source Explorer. It should open automatically, when you switch to the Java EE perspective. If it does not, you can use Window >> Show View >> Other >> Connectivity >> Data Source Explorer.
    You can read some more information about developing Java EE 5 applications in the SAP official documentation:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/44/c778033d5360eee10000000a155369/frameset.htm
    I hope that helps!

  • Full list of database fields not showing in Database Explorer

    Good Afternoon,
    After a recent upgrade to Windows 7 which included having Crystal Reports 2011 reinstalled on to the PC, I am now unable to open the full list of database fields when connecting to an ODBC.
    I can open old reports and refresh them without issue, but I cannot create new reports.
    Any suggestions gratefully received at this point
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

    What type of database are you connecting to?  Is your Win7 machine 32- or 64-bit?  If it's 64-bit you need to create a 32-bit odbc connection.  If you're connecting to SQL Server, make sure that you have the "SQL Server Native Client" version 10 or 11 installed - the connection doesn't work well with the version 6 SQL Server ODBC driver that's installed as part of Win7.

    Hi guys,
    I am new to Oracle and trying to plugin database in eclipse Galileo. I found the following tutorial

    I can't find the orcale database connection as stated in tutorial Fig 3.
    In tutorial, it says - If "Oracle Database Connection" is not listed, restart Eclipse with -clean command option. Provide a name for the connection and proceed to the next step.
    How do i restart Eclipse with -clean command and what is -clean command.
    Do I need to download any driver etc?

  • Using .csv files in Crystal Reports for Eclipse?

    I recently installed crystal reports for Eclipse and much of the basic CR functionality seems to be there, but then I added a .csv file as an ODA flat file data source and I can see it in my "Data Source Explorer", but can not seem to drag it into my report to actually report on the data in this file. Am I missing some basic step?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Not all data sources available via the Eclipse Database Explorer component are supported with Crystal Reports for Eclipse.
    CSV data sources currently isn't on the [Supported Platforms doc|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/20c69834-cfc4-2b10-da81-960222254295]

  • Can't get Dali Eclipse pluging working

    I want to generate Entities from database tables, using the Dali Eclipse plugin, but I can't get it to work.
    My environment:
    - Eclipse Europa, with Dali 1.0
    - IBM AS400 / DB2 database
    - Using com.ibm.as400.access.AS400JDBCDriver JDBC driver
    I can explore my database via Eclipse's Datasource Explorer, via a database connection I configured, named "test". I configured my project's JPA settings as follows:
    - Platform: Generic
    - Connection: test (same as mentioned above)
    - Discover annotaded classes automatically
    Now when I select JPA Tools > Generate Entities from the context menu, I get the Database Connection selection screen. I can choose my "test" connection here. But whatever I do, the Schema combobox doesn't get populated. And since I cannot select a schema, the "next" or "finish" buttons stay disabled. It doesn't make a difference whether I connect to the database first via the Datasource Explorer or use the "Reconnect" option in the Database Connection selection screen.
    Here's my persistence.xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <persistence version="1.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence
    http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd">
        <persistence-unit name="JPATest">
            <provider>oracle.toplink.essentials.PersistenceProvider</provider>
            <mapping-file>META-INF/orm.xml</mapping-file>
            <properties>
                <property name="toplink.logging.level" value="INFO"/>
                <property name="toplink.target-database" value="DB2"/>
                <property name="toplink.jdbc.driver" value="com.ibm.as400.access.AS400JDBCDriver"/>
                <property name="toplink.jdbc.url" value="jdbc:-----:--------//"/>
                <property name="toplink.jdbc.password" value="----------"/>
                <property name="toplink.jdbc.user" value="---"/>
            </properties>
        </persistence-unit>
    </persistence>I also tried to hand code an Entitiy class and add annotations using Dali. I think the comboboxes in the "JPA Details" panel should be populated from the database, so that I can select a database table and/or column, but that does't happen. I get a lot of "Schema xyz cannot be resolved for table asdf" errors while editing the entity. While this is not the way I want to work (I want to generate Entities from tables) my conclusion is that Dali cannot get a connection to the database at all. That's weird, because the Datasource Explorer can connect to the database.
    I hope someone can give me some hints to resolve this problem.

    Hi Neil,
    Thanks for your suggestion. I thought I tried all combinations of database, catalog and schema names and all different orders to connect, associate the connection and generate entities, but it seems I did not try this one. I did exactly what you suggest, except for the fact that I connected to the database before associating the connection to the project.
    It partially works now. I can generate Entities. Once I have generated an entity, all generated private member variables become red underlined, because table "null" for columns "xyz" could not be resolved. And the drop down box for columns in the JPA Details pane still doesn't get populated. The latter can be fixed by selecting the proper schema for the entity, which results in a @Table(schema="xyz") annotation. However, I expected this to be done automatically when the Entity was generated.
    The error about not being able to resolve the columns still exists. I tried to add a @Column(name="ASDF") annotation (because the columns names are all capital, while the member variables are lowercase), but that doesn't resolve the problem.
    I hope this gives you a clue to solve the problem!

  • Oracle CEP connecting to a database

    Hello all,
    I am trying to make a simple CEP Application example works for a few days but I just can't make it and I'm getting more and more mad.
    So I have installed Oracle CEP 11.1.1 and configured Eclipse 1.2.1 to develop CEP Application. Then I created a new CEP project on the HelloWorld template.
    I have added the jdbc drivers into the java build path as external jar.
    I also tried to add a data-source in the config.xml
    When I add a database connection into the Eclipse data source explorer it works fine.
    But when I add the code into the constructor of my adapter and deploy the application :
    try {
              DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
                 this.conn = DriverManager.getConnection(CONNEC_STRING, USERNAME, PASS);
              } catch (SQLException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              }I just keep getting a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError error on the registerDriver instruction. And I really don't understand what's wrong.
    I would be really grateful if anyone could explain me step by step how to configure the drivers and just make a simple select statement into a table.
    Thanks in advance.
    Max

    you need not get the Connection object from DriverManager. You can get it from Datasource by getting the Static resource injection.
    this returns you the javax.sql.Datasource object which can give you Connection.

    Hi everybody,
    @http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27086_02/help/oracle.eclipse.tools.common.doc/html/install.html#install_oepe
    Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse Installation Guide says:
    "You can install OEPE using any of the following ways:
    Download, and then unzip OEPE plugins directly into the Eclipse dropins folder and restart Eclipse."
    This is what I have done,
    then when I create a new database connection, and I press the button "test connection" i got a pop up saying "Ping failed" giving details:

    The documentation is out of date. The unzip to dropins method is no longer supported. The OEPE zip you downloaded is actually an archived repository. You can follow the instruction for installing using Eclipse Update Manager and point to the downloaded zip instead of the online repository.
    I will follow up to get the docs updated.
