why does Mountain Lion make my computer run slow and my Safari too? Please help!

The problem is probably not mountain lion. It works just fine on my computer. And a few million others.
If your computer is having problems, you can try to fix it with some simple troubleshooting maneuvers.

  • HT1338 qualifying for mountain lion

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the email confirming you qualify for Mountain Lion?  I bought a Mac within the qualifying time period.

Beyond what is posted at Apple (which does list Snow Leopard as an upgrade, and does list some specific requirements), please check back after Mountain Lion is released; it's not announced yet, so particular details beyond what's posted are likely under non-disclosure.

  • HT1338 even though mountain lion appears in launchpad i am not able to download it as its not showing sign of progress from past 8 hrs.

I am not able to see any sign of progress from last night, and when i go back to app store it shows downloading.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Go to App Store > Purchases, pause and resume it. If it doesn't work, delete it and download Mountain Lion again

  • HT1338 After install mountain lion my superdrive do not work

i facing problem after install mountain lion 10.8.2. my superdrive do not work properly , when i insert a disk to superdrive after 20-30 seconds left cd eject. if you have any solution about solve this problem , pls tell me.

After recently upgrading my mid-2010 Mac Mini from Lion to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 my superdrive stopped working. I did a clean install of Lion to a blank SSD. Then I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the App Store. Then I tried reading a Windows 7 installation DVD. Any DVD I insert in the internal superdrive is not recognized by the system and is ejected after a few seconds.
I tried cleaning the superdrive with a DVD lens cleaner. This did not fix the problem.
I tried a SMC reset. This did not fix the problem.
I tried an NVRAM/PRAM reset. This did not fix the problem.
I read on a related thread...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4150905?start=30&tstart=0
...that many Mountain Lion users have experienced the same issue.
I opened the Console to look for new messages appearing after inserting a DVD-ROM into the superdrive. No messages appeared while the superdrive whirred a few times and then ejected the DVD-ROM.
Apple have been made aware of the issue but no patch has been issued. Mountain Lion 10.8.2 is the current version with no updates available at the time of writing.
Some users with dual-boot systems have booted into Windows and their superdrive works fine. This points to a software issue with Mountain Lion. The problem appears to affect some systems and not others.
Other users have reported that their superdrive works again after downgrading to Lion or Snow Leopard.
I'm going to try booting ML into Safe Mode to see if the superdrive works. I'll then try downgrading to Lion or Snow Leopard to see if the superdrive works ok. That at least will confirm that it is a Mountain Lion upgrade related issue and not a superdrive hardware failure.
Then we will have to wait for a patch from Apple to resolve the issue so we can upgrade to ML without losing use of the optical drive!

  • HT1338 I have mountain lion and cant get time machine to work. the disk keeps getting ejected.

I just installed Mountain lion and i can't get time machine to work. every time i connect it time machine starts but then ejects the drive. I also tried to back up direct to the hard drive with the software that came with the drive and the same thing happens. Does anyone have a clue as to what may be wrong?

When that happens, you should get some sort of message.  If you don't remember it exactly, go to the Time Machine Preferences window -- there should be a red "Failed" message and icon there.  Click the icon to see the message.  Either report the wording or post a screenshot.
If not, a clue may be lurking in your logs.  Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs.  Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here.

  • HT1338 Java update mountain lion

    Java update for mountain lion?

I just installed a newer Java update today (09.07.12) and found a seeming bug with webpages' drop-down menus.
The version I just installed is: ava for OS X Lion 2012-005 1.0
I've found that so far about half of the drop-down menu options on various webpages across the internet only show portions of their listed information (e.g. U.S.P.S. Zip Code page:https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action). In this example the drop-down menu for "State" will only show "Alabama" through "Connecticut" -- you cannot view the rest of the state options. Only by selecting "Connecticut" and then reselecting "Connecticut" again from the resulting menu section, will the next set of states options show up in the following drop-down menu ("Florida" through "Kansas") and so on.
I found this also happening on an HP Registration page for my printer today after the Java install. The drop-down menu here only offered an incomplete portion of available options there as well.
I followed suggestions made by softwater on the Apple Discussions page (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3982638) instructing us to enable Java in the Java Preferences (see above link for details). I found that the checkbox for enabling Java had not been checked--and I enabled it by checking it. Then I relaunched Safari only to find the same problem still existing.
I then opened Firefox and went to the U.S.P.S. page (https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action) to try the "State" drop-down menu there. In Firefox there's a similar problem: still only "Alabama" through "Connecticut" show initially; followed by the entire list showing up AFTER re-clicking "Connecticut" again. And these states don't reveal the entire list as we're accustomed to seeing--but only nine options at a time with a mini-scrollbar.
This is not how this site was functioning prior to the update to the new Java version.

  • HT1338 OS X mountain Lion and ICloud, my bookmarks have automatically been changed to those of my iPad, is there any way to reverse this?

I recently updated to OS X mountain Lion and activated ICloud, my bookmarks have automatically been changed to those of my iPad, is there any way to reverse this?

First, you need to go to System Preferences -> iCloud and uncheck the Safari item to prevent syncing bookmarks (among other things) between Safari on your Mac and Safari on your iPad.
Then you need to restore your bookmarks file from a backup.  To find the bookmarks file, go to your user Library folder (which is now invisible, so hold down the option key and choose Library from the Finder's Go menu), then look in the Safari folder that's in there. There should be a file called Bookmarks.plist. Replace it with an older version from a backup.

  • HT1338 I purchased mountain lion from the app store and I can find the download to install it?

I just bought Mountain Lion online and it started to download to my computer.  I walked away and I can't find the download or the screen to see if it finished downloading from the internet yet?

It downloads to your Applications folder.

  • HT1338 Upgrading to Mountain Lion

I've already purchased the Mountain Lion upgrade on one computer. Do I need to purchase it again to upgrade another?

  • HT1338 Back to Mountain Lion...

I've erased my Mac Book Air HD and get instaled the original OS (Snow Leiopard) - How could I get back to the Mountain Lion which I had upgraded before?

The same way you got it the first time; the only difference is that you won't be charged again as long as you're using your original Apple ID.

Boot into the Recovery HD by holding down Cmd-r on restart.
When it boots, you have several choices on that page. Go to the Utilities menu and select Terminal.
    Type resetpassword and hit return.
That will open the reset password utility, but you won't be resetting your password.
Select your hard drive from the list.
    Then select your user name.
At the bottom of the screen, click the Reset Home Folder Permissions and ACLs button.
Quit out of that and quit Terminal
    Restart
