HT1363 Ipod nano 3 died.....

I have an ipod nano 3rd gen and it has totally died.  I have charged it overnight (wall charger not via computer, so I know that the battery has charged) and tried putting it into disk mode but I'm getting no response from it at all - I have done this before when it has frozen, so know that I am doing it properly. It looks totally dead Any ideas?

That was my intention - there is a site in London who do repairs for a reasobable price by post, so I will look at them dependent on what Apple says.  Sadly my local store doesn't have any genius guys, so it'll have to either wait until I go to a big store or  go to the guys in London (who will quote free of charge).

Ah be positive! there are alot of great people here that can help you.
OK so you mention an error message that you got. It would be great if you could post what that error message was exactly. THen you never mentioned that you tried the 5 R's the link is below.

I know this might sounds simple but have you searched these forums for similar issues as your having with your nano. I have found great help by searching these forums before.

  • IPod nano died, a week later: wont charge or reset.

My ipod died. I didnt need it, so I waited til a week later and tried to charge it. A normal plug in that usually works. It wont show that its charging, wont reset, the apple sign wont come on, nothing! Its just blank, black screen.
    Is my ipod truly dead?

    "Is my ipod truly dead?"
Apple recommends the "5 Rs" to ascertain whether the iPod requires a repair. Let's see: reset, restore, reinstall software, 'riting, and 'rithmatic. I'm kidding about the last two.

  • HT1363 iPod nano 5th generation is not recognized by computer

I've uninstalled and installed iTunes, gone through the 5Rs, attempted all the USB ports, restarted the computer, attempted putting the iPod in Disk Mode, and I'm now going to put my iPod on YouTube with a shameful sign on it to punish it until it connects to my computer and uploads my new music! Can someone help me make these two devices communicate. BTW, the cable is functional, too. Thanks.

iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes

  • Ipod nano died

i tried charging my ipod overnight by plugging it directly into the wall via a charger. the next morning, half of my screen was missing on the display. it was all lit up white and i could read words halfway down the screen. i could even play music, but i got about two minutes playback time before it conked out. the screen went dark (and blank). i plugged it into my computer and itunes did not recognize it. i tried to restore, but it doesnt have a way of charging first. when i plug it into the wall charger or when i plug it into my computer via usb, it makes a faint but high pitched steady squealing noise. i cant do anything with it, please help!

    Hi TheGuru146,
It sounds like the iPod isn't restoring correctly. Try putting the it into Disk Mode manually and then restoring the iPod again as described in the article linked below.
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
    iPod nano (7th generation)
Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it has a charge.
Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously until the display shows the Apple logo. This should take about eight seconds.
When the Apple logo appears, press and hold the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk Mode.

  • How do i move ipod nano content to a new Windows computer?  My old computer died and when i try to sync to itunes on my new Windows computer, it says it will erase what's on the ipod.  I can't seem to de-authorize the old computer (it's been recycled).

Hi, I'm an ipod newbie, and unsure of what product i have-i believe it's an ipod nano, but can't seem to find any info on itunes that will identify my product.
how do i move ipod nano music to a new Windows 7 computer?  My old computer died and when i try to sync to itunes on my new Windows computer, it says it will erase what's on the ipod.  I can't seem to de-authorize the old computer (it's been recycled).  Does this mean I have to start all over and read in my CD's into itunes?  seems very inflexible/inelegant...
thanks for your help, sorry if this question has already been answered before!

Is there no ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM?

  • My main computer I have my itunes with died, I had all of my music there. I do have all music on an ipod nano but when I connect it to one of my other computers it wants to erase what is there, can I use the cloud to upload all my music from the nano?

My main computer died where i was keeping tohusands of songs, never had a icloud account to share with all my computers I authorized for my account. I do have just about all of the music ononeofmy ipod nanos. Can I set up a cloud account and then upload all of my music from the nano? Right now it will not allow me to "push" my musicfrom thenano to one of my working computers that I have Itunes on. What can Ido?

No. An iPod Nano has no internet access.
Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • I want to create a playlist on an old iPod Nano (I think it's from the second generation), but the computer it was originally linked to via iTunes died years ago.  How can I make a playlist out of existing songs on the iPod?

    Hello there,
I have an old iPod nano which I think is from the second generation (model number A1199 if that helps) with software at the latest version it can accept, 1.1.3.  I wish to make a playlist out of the songs currently on the iPod, but I can't see any easy way to do that from the iPod itself.  The next logical thought is to do it through iTunes, but the iTunes that was originally synced to the iPod died several years ago now, so I can't access that to make a playlist through (it's a very old iPod).  I do have iTunes currently on this computer, but that's synced with my iPhone and stores different songs which I don't want to be mixed with those from the old iPod (due to the mostly nostalgic nature of the iPod songs).  Is there any way I can either create a new playlist from the iPod itself, or through iTunes without having to sync?  Also note that most of the songs on the old iPod were uploaded to iTunes from CDs and so aren't connected with any iTunes Login.
Thanks for any help you can give.  Also, I sorta need to create this playlist ASAP so any advice you could give would be much appreciated

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • My iPod nano 4GB (2nd gen.) battery was great, now its dying within a few hours?

    Hello,
I have a iPod nano 4 GB (2nd gen.) I have had it for years and up till recently the battery was great on it.
For a few weeks now my battery will die very quickly. I will have it fully charged and within 2 hours it will be dead. I have no applications running, just music. Nothing has changed at how I use it, but the battery just does not hold.
I charged it again last night and listened to music for about 30 min when I checked it, the battery was about dead. I gave it a few min. then it said it was half way charged?
I do not have wi-fi or anything on this...just music.
I also checked to make sure its software was up to date which it is. Can it just be the batterys worn out?
    Thanks

Yes.  Your iPod's Lithium ion battery will slowly start to lose its ability to retain full capacity over time.  Nothing lasts forever.  Sorry.

  • IPod Nano Screen dying

So, I think my iPod Nano is 2nd gen. I don't know which gen is which, but mine looks like the original nano except with the thicker glass after people cracked them in half by accident. I just noticed today that my screen is dying. About half the screen doesn't have colour anymore, and is instead kind of off-blue-ish, like the ink kind of ran up there. It's hard to describe. Before I consider going out to buy a new iPod (the extended warranty on this one has been expired for about 5 months), I want to make sure it's a hardware issue and it can't be resolved except by a hardware solution.
The reason I'm wondering is cause this happened all at once, no gradual line-by-line degeneration or anything, and I haven't knocked it against anything particularly dangerous (heck, I've barely used the thing for about 2 weeks, and it was fine a couple days ago when I used it). Also, when an LCD breaks, it usually spills ink all over the screen, which didn't happen to mine. It's almost completely blanked out.
    Thanks.

I have a 2nd generation iPod nano; the screen on it is not displaying anymore. I'm wondering if it even could have been messed up by staying in my iPod stereo system for quite some time. I now have an iPod Touch as my primary MP3 player, but still want the older iPod nano to work properly as an extra iPod.

  • I have just bought an iPod Nano to replace my previous one which died, when I open my iTunes it does not show the new iPod, and refuses to allow me to sync my existing library, the new iPod does not show in my computer only on devices, any suggestions ?

Question: I have just bought an iPod Nano to replace my previous one which "died" My computer does not recognize the new iPod and only shows it in devices and printers. I cannot sync my existing iTunes to the new iPod, there is no way I can do it. Any help please?

    Hey there longislandmacca,
It sounds like your iPod is not recognized in either Explorer, or in iTunes on your PC. That can be frustrating, expecially when its a new device. I recommend you use the following article to help resolve that issue named:

  • My old ipod nano 7 died and I got a new one. How do I transfer the music from itunes to my new Ipod? When I connect it to my computer it does not sync...

I have a new ipod nano 7 and I want to transfer the songs that I had in my old (which died)... How do I do it?

    Hello, tiburon1979.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need a little clarification on the issue that you are experiencing to provide a better answer.  However, if your device is not recognized by iTunes, try going through the steps in the article below.
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows
If the device is recognized and you are unable to select the syncing preference, see the article below as the steps have changed.
Sync your iPhone, iPad, and iPod with iTunes using USB
