To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

Your library is preserved with the following repair process, but you ought to be routinely backing up anyway.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

My Ipod touch (2nd Gen) is not being recognised in itunes. I have gone through the ipod touch assistant, and this has made no difference.
Next try is to uninstall itunes and re-install it. However...will I lose my music library when I do this?
I am also having problems with my external back-up drive which has now stopped me opening it up (I have had it for a year), as it says "I don't have permission to see it's contents" and "files can't be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read-only" - so I am loathe to uninstall itunes if I lose all my music etc....

It still has all his music, even though it is supposedly "deauthorized" and won't work with my iPod without erasing my information. Has anyone encountered this problem, and does anyone know how to fix it?
Yeah... that's how it works. Signing into iTunes does not magically make a library appear.
If you have an iTunes library (media purchased from iTunes) then YOU need to put it on the computer.
Also, since the computer is no longer authorized for his account, any media associated with his account will not be playable. -

Today, 01/23/2014, I tried updating iTunes, as I got a messsage that update was available. The update did not download correctly I got the message to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it. After the uninstall and reinstall I got an error message, that stated: The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program fo fix. then I got the message, iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (windows error 126) I have had iTunes since I purchased the iphone in 2012. If you need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes, your music files should not be erased or affected in any way. It is always a good idea to back up your data before making any changes to your computer, though.

I've just updated my iPhone to the new iPhone OS and now it won't work and iTunes won't recognise that it's there. I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled twice and it's not working. Please help.
I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version. I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again. I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again. My blue tooth doesn't work either. I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this. When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue. My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!! I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue. Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it. Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple. -

A Restore first downloads a new copy of iOS to your computer. On a slow Internet connection this can take a long time. How fast is your connection? How long would you expect it to take to download 900 MB?
That's assuming nothing is interfering with the download. Some firewalls and antivirus programs will block the download or slow it down. So you should temporarily disable your security software. Security software can also block the update after the iOS download is complete. -
I have a 3gs, and I haven't updated it for a long time because I always have issues when I do. I tried to update the ios today, and it decided to update it to 6.1.3 instead of 7, I didn't think there would be a problem, so I clicked ok. When I came to check on my phone, itunes said there was an error with the update, and my phone was in recovery mode (plug-in sign on the screen). I looked up multiple things to try, I tried putting it in DFU mode, still itunes doesn't see it. The computer also doesn't list it under devices, however when it is plugged in the Apple Mobile Support USB Driver shows up in device manager.
