HT201269 I need to make a CD copy of my photos on iPhone 4, using a Hewlett Packard laptop.  Easy to do or not?

I want to make a CD of all photos on my iPhone 4, before buying the new 5S, thus saving a lot of space.  I have a Hewlett Packard laptop.  Can this be done?

If these were photos taken with your phone yes.  Simple as connecting the iPhone to the laptop)make sure its urnning the latest version of itunes) and dragging the photos out of the DCIM folder on the iPhone to a folder on yoru laptop and then burning that folder.

i share a photo stream with a family member. Is there a way to make it so we have separate photo stream but still use the same apple id?

You'll want a separate iCloud account for each user in addition to the main Apple ID used for purchases.
Let's say you have a family of four (husband, wife, and two children). Here is what you will need:
Main Apple ID for shared purchases in Tunes (everybody will be using this)
iCloud (Apple ID) account for husband
iCloud (Apple ID) account for wife
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 1
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 2
Yes, you can have both an Apple ID and iCloud account setup on the same device. On each iOS device, setup the main Apple ID account for the following services:
iCloud (Photo Stream and Backup are the only items selected here).
    Music Home Sharing
    Video Home Sharing
    Photo Stream
Additionally, on each iOS device, add a new iCloud account (Under Mail, Contacts, Calendar) that is unique to each user for the following services:
    Mail (if using @me.com)
    Contacts
    Calendars
    Reminders
    Bookmarks
    Notes
    Find My iPhone
    Messages
    Find Friends
    FaceTime
On your individual Macs (or Mac accounts), use the main Apple ID in iTunes. Then, use the unique iCloud account in/for iCloud.
Now that everbody is using separate iCloud accounts for your contacts, calendars, and other things, it will be all be kept separate.
The only thing that is now 'shared' would be iTunes content (apps and other purchases), backups via iCloud (if enabled), and Photo Stream (if enabled).

  • Need to make a bootable copy of my OS 10.6

I have a registered copy of Snow Leopard but can't find my disk. How do I make a bootable copy of the system on my external hard drive?

Your going to need your Snow Leoaprd install disks one day,
So cloning software will make a clone of your OS X boot partition/drive to a blank HFS+ journaled (Disk Utility) formated drive and do as a "hold option key" bootable backup of your entire OS X system.
But in the meanwhile call Apple and have your serial number ready, order replacement Snow Leopard grey disks that came with your machine, it will take some time to come.
If you upgraded from Leopard with the white Snow Leopard retail disks, you just have to buy new copies at Amazon or other places.
You can make copies of your Snow disks here, you will need a dual layer DVD burner.

  • Do I need to make a separate copy of my music for iTunes to find it?

Can iTunes be set up to automatically update my music if I add new music or change the folder a certain album is in?  Or do I need to create a separate folder of my music for my iTunes library (I have over 30GB of music).  While I am asking, will my iTunes folder for video only display the videos that are in mp4 format (is it possible for iTunes to convert video files)?  I am a recent convert from the Zune player, and while I love my IPod Touch, I think the Zune software was better, as it always updated my music from my folder and converted video to play on my Zune......

iTunes doesn't monitor your media folders in the way Windows Media Player does. Use iTunes Folder Watch.
iTunes won't convert other video formats, but again third party tools can help. Try DVDVideoSoft Free Studio.
Since you're coming from a WMP perspective you might find my tips here and here for getting WMP and iTunes to play nicely together useful: (Hmm, those links don't seem to be landing properly at the right posts within the thread but I'm sure you can find the relevant sections.).
iTunes also has some "interesting" organizational quirks which I cover in an article on Grouping tracks into albums.

  • How do you make a duplicate copy of a photo in iPhoto library

I have been trying to make and additional photo in iphoto, ie give it a new name and edit it but still keep the original untouched.

In iPhoto select the photo you want to duplicate and either do Command+D or from the 'Photos' menu select Duplicate. To rename it select the duplicate and do Command+I and edit the file name.

  • How can I make a migration copy of my email addresses for use in another program.

It is necessary to make a migration copy of all our email addresses for transfer to windows express.
Our office overseas can not use Thunderbird & needs all our email addresses stored in Thunderbird copied for migration into their windows express program. How can this be achieved.?
I think we may also need to transfer email copies too, can this be done.?
    If so, how.?
    Regards Kym

Ok I have googled, I have found a windows cleaning company in Switzerland http://www.windowsexpress.org/About-Us.htmland something called Parallels Desktop for Mac with instructions for installing windows on a mac.
So I think we need to go back to the beginning with "What is Windows express?"
Email programs as a general rule do not "export" their contents into another mail clients formats. The normal procedure is to "import" the foreign format so there are some obvious questions
What formats can this mail software import?
Are your existing mail accounts IMAP or pop?
you can export email addresses from Thunderbird as CSV which almost all programs can read (including spreadsheets) From the address book select the Tools menu (Alt+ T) and select the export option

  • Do I need to make separate projects -Noobie question

I am working on a project, trying to do something I've never done before. I have about eight hours of footage that I need to edit down to about 45 minutes for a presentation. I have used iMovie to select the clips I want. That part is done and it seems fine. Now I need to create a DVD (using iDVD) so that I can play each piece separately. I tried it and I got continuous play. How do I build my DVD in iDVD so that I can play each clip separately? I was thinking that I might need to make separate iMovie projects for each clip I want to use and then send all those projects to iDVD rather than send one project to iDVD that contains all the clips, but I'm not sure if that's the way to go or not. I am a very experienced Mac user, but I have little experience using iMovie and iDVD. Help is appreciated.
    TIA,
    Thad

Try a double click on the desired clip. Should bring up the inspector and then select the "clip" tab. Verify its duration. Then export using QT. Like this:
or you may be able to use the precision editor like this:
Again, I prefer using iM6 for this reason (much easier to address single clips when exporting to the desktop) IMO.

  • Need to make a copy/clone of a table which has sdo_geometry data type

    Folks,
We are running Oracle 11gr1 on Suse Linux platform.
We have a requirement, where we need to make a copy of a table, in the same database but in a difference schema, the source table has about 130 millions rows and also has the sdo_getometry data type.
I tried materialized view, but MV does not support sdo_geometry data type.
According to one of my DBAs, doing it via data pump , will take few days, which is not acceptable.
Is there a way, we can make a copy of this table in the same db ?
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Siva,
This is not for backup purpose.
Here is the background information on this requirement.
I need to have a static copy of a table, which has spatial column, sdo_geometry in it.
So we can run another application against this table, just read-only, since we need static data, data in the source table changes quite often.
One of my DBA suggested to have another instance/database, to keep the copy of the source table, I thought idea of having another database just to keep a copy of a table is an over kill.
That is why I had asked this question and you had provided a viable solution.
Then we need to refresh this table , with the data (changes) from the source table, maybe once in 2- 3 weeks.
I tried creating a Materialized view, but it does not support Spatial columns.
So now I am trying to figure out, the most efficient way to refresh the clone table from the source table.
    Regards,
    Ashish

  • I need to make space on my Mac. If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again, does it retain all my editing? It does not seem to retain Faces info and I have spent hours and days naming people :(

I need to make space on my Mac. If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again, does it retain all my editing? It does not seem to retain Faces info and I have spent hours and days naming people

There is no way to export Faces information.
I'm not sure why you would do this:
If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again,
If space is an issue then move the whole Library to an external drive:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I need to make a copy of an entire email, including the header w/the sender's info and time, etc. to insert into a letter, etc. How can I do this w/out cutting and pasting   the header separately from the text. I know there is a way besides a screen shot but I've spend hours trying to find it.

For the particularly persnickety types you might want to expose the full headers in the email message as well.  It's easy enough to do, from mail's 'menu' select "view"; then "message"; then all headers.
Another option you could use is a screen capture using Grab.
Activate Grab, then shift + command + w (for a window screen shot).  Then confirm the window selection and click the mail message.

I have a hdd from a late 2009 mbp.  I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard to lion to mountain lion.  Now I want to upgrade to a ssd.  Do I need to purchase a new copy of mountain lion to go on my new ssd? If I don't, then what is the procedure to transfer mountain lion with my 4 user accounts onto the new ssd from the hdd?
I'm confused on if I can use the recovery hd on a thumb drive to install mountain lion on my ssd.  Will it be pheasible with so many OS X upgrades?  And then how do I get my user accounts onto the ssd from the hdd.  Do I use migration assistant?  Do I need to make a time machine backup first?  Should I use something called Carbon Clone or something like that?
    Thanks for reading

If you have a cable that connects and external HDD to the MBP, it will do.  If it is something like this, an  enclosure will not be needed for the swap:
An enclosure allows you to use your old HDD for storage or backup purposes.  The cable will not.
Here are instructions as to how the swap can be performed using DISK UTITY.  Substitute You cable for the enclosure in same:
INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MBP
    1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
    2. You will need a HDD enclosure.  One with a USB connection will do.  A 9 pin Firewire is better.
    3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
    4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE.  From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field.  Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.  Click on the 'Erase' button.
    5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top).  Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination'  field.  Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more.  A Firewire will speed up the transfer.  This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
    6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives.  Start the MBP and you have finished the installation.  The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
    7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.
If there is any confusion on your part, post back.
    Ciao.

  • I have a folder "_Serato_" that I need to make actual 100% backups every time I alter the folder (not incremental backups). Is there a way to do this with Time Machine?

The title says most of it. I have a problem with the software and I need to create real 100% backups each time I alter that folder. I just had an incident where my _Serato_ foldercrapped out on me again and I was excited that my Time Capsule backup would restore what I did from last night. BUT, when I restored from that backup and loaded the Serato Scratch Live program, it only showed the new work and not the old saved work.
I am not trying to get Serato help here, I am asking how to tell Time Machine to always make an exact copy of my "_Serato_" folder everytime it backs up. Is that possible? Currelty I do this my self by duplicating the folder, but it would be amazing if Time Machine could handle this.
    Please let me know,
