HT201342 e mail address

I bought my first apple mac computer over ten years ago and after the first year didn't use my mac e mail address except of course for my mac id. How can I start to use my mac e mail address. Since my 1st Apple purchase I've bought several apple products,a MacBook pro, two iPhones, an iPod touch and an iPad but didn't reuse my address. Lots of friends write to me with mac and icloud addresses, am I missing something?

The @mac.com address was part of DotMac (later MobileMe) that was a paid-for service. I gather that though you had an account for a time, perhaps a trial account, you did not renew it.
This means that the address expired, though it can be used as an Apple ID where it is just a text string used for login.
Apple's documentation on this situation is as clear as mud. From what I can gather, you should be able to go to System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign in with this ID; but most probably you will get an @icloud.com address with the same text before the '@' that was before it in the @mac.com address, but you will not be able to use the @mac.com version.

How can I add an e-mail address to my existing icloud account?  I curently only use one of the three.

Each iCloud account only has a single iCloud account.  If you want, you can add up to 3 alias addresses that will receive email in the same iCloud inbox, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • HT201342 In Mail, how do I get both my @me and @iCloud addresses to appear in the "From" field?

I have been using my @me e-mail address with iCloud, and I received the e-mail today from Apple which says that I can now use an @icloud e-mail address.  I clicked the provided link and followed the instructions.  Using icloud.com, I'm able to choose which address I'd like to use when composing an e-mail; however, it doesn't appear that I have the same option in Mail app on my Macbook.  While I can receive e-mails to the @icloud address on Mac, if I try to reply, I'm stuck with sending from the @me address.  Any ideas on how to correct this?  I don't want to replace the @me address; I want to make @me and @icloud interchangeable.

In the Mail App  preferences panel under Accounts add the new email address you want separated with a coma. Save the changes.
When you compose a new email you will have the option to select which email you want to use.
    I hope this helps.

  • HT201342 So this Now means in reality I am gonna have another e-mail address / login / password to remember?.........when is Apple going to figure out a way to combine all of our current Apple ID's and Login's for iTunes, iCloud, etc into one?.......

For instance....i have an old iTunes account login with an e-mail address from an old ISP that is no longer valid that apple forces me to still use and remember even though i have a former Mobile Me (.me) e-mail address that i use (and love for that matter and would love to continue using)......and now i have to have an iCloud login email as well.........how is it that this "Just Works" Apple?
You all need to figure out a way for all your users to combine all their iTunes and iCloud and MobileMe accounts into one.......!!!!!

You can continue to use them as Apple ID's, change the rescue address (as you know)
You can use your iCloud address, but it won't be an alias, it's a full email address.

  • HT201342 how can i change my icloud mail address. thanks

how can i change my icloud mail address.
    thanks

You can't change the name of your @me.com or @icloud.com address, but you can set up an alias with a different name that will still deliver email to your iCloud inbox.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • HT201342 Can I change my icloud e-mail address?

Can I change my icloud e-mail address?

No, only by signing up for a completely new iCloud account.
You can add an email alias to your existing account though.

  • HT201342 [WIFM ] What benefits are there to be had,my current E-mail address seems to meet my current needs

[WIFM ] What benefits are there to be had,my current E-mail address seems to meet my current needs

    There is no advantage.
Apple renamed their service from MobileMe to iCloud, so it is logical to change the email address to match.
You can ignore the new address if it is not required, your previous @me email will continue to function.

  • HT201342 unable to change e mail address to new iCloud address. When following change instructions the drop down on the SEND NEW MESSAGES ON does not have the iCloud option.  ( I have mountain Lion)

attemped instructions in Mountain Lion to change my e mail address to the recommended i cloud.com address.
The drop down  in the SEND NEW MESSAGES FROM does not have the i cloud e mail option.
    How do I change it??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.

  • HT201342 Hello, I have an Apple-iCloud account and have used one e-Mail address with that account. I want to add another address for my wife. How do I do it? Thanks

Hello, I have an Apple-iCloud account and have used one e-Mail address. I would like to add another address for my wife on same account. How do I do it?

    Hey there Raul,
It sounds like you have an iCloud account, and want to create one for your wife using the same iCloud account. You can do this with an iCloud Alias, and this article will help you do that. Keep in mind that any and all purchases made with the alias will not be transferrable or merged with another account if she wants to have her own account down the road.

  • HT201342 How to Set up alias accounts and other extra e mail addresses on iPad

How do I set up alias e mail addresses and extra e mail addresses on my iPad also can I set up an extra @ me account for my wife thanks john

See: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a490a for help on setting up aliases. You can't do this directly on the iPad though - it has to be done on a computer in a web browser at http://www.icloud.com/.
You cannot setup @me.com addresses any longer. If you wife wants an iCloud account, and associated @icloud.com email address, she can sign up for her own iCloud account. See: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

  • HT201342 why would I need another e-mail address?

hi,  Why would I need another e-mail address.  When .me came out I thought that .mac would be erased so I gave everyone my .me account (even though I prefered the .mac name)  the .mac continued to work and now everyone sends me TWO e-mails which arrive at exactly the same place.  I can understand if the e-mails arrive at different mail boxes, then you could give your family one, your business another, your kids school a third, but why... why 3 accounts that go to exactly the same place.  I realise I don't have to use all 3 but can someone tell me how to get the most out of these e-mail addresses.  Thanks!

Just give out the one email address you want to use. They are all the same account anyway. People do not need to send emails to both email addresses so tell them to only use the one you prefer.

  • HT201342 how can I change my iCloud e-mail address?  It's spelled incorrectly.

I spelled the e-mail address incorrectly when I signed up for the iCloud service but didn't notice it until it was set.  How can I change the address to be spelled correctly?  If it means deleting the incorrect one and then adding the correct one I can't figure out how to do that either!
    Jerry

You can't change and iCloud email account address once created.  You can either create a new iCloud account, or add an @icloud.com email alias address to the existing account, which will receive email in your existing iCloud inbox (more details here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a.
If you would rather create a new account and keep your data, start by saving any photo stream photos on your phone that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.  When you turn Mail on you will be asked to create your new iCloud email address.  Type carefully as it cannot be changed later.

  • HT201342 will my e-mail address be automatically sent to all my contacts?

will my e-mail address be automatically sent to all my contacts?

    No.
If you choose to start using the optional @icloud.com email address, you will have to notify your contacts of the change.
You'll still get all emails sent to your @me.com addresses regardless.

  • How can I display selected tags across multiple e-mail addresses?

I receive email on a specific topic but via several e-mail addresses. How can I view selected tags where the resulting e-mails span several (7) email addresses. They are all active on my Thunderbird, but as far as I know, I can only display the selected tag on one of them at a time.
Any assistance greatly appreciated as this is a very big problem for me.
    thanks, Ron75

This solution does not appear to work across multiple e-mail addresses.
Perhaps I should have said "work across multiple e-mail address at the same time. I get e-mail on specific topics via several email addresses and wish to view all the tagged emails regardless of which email account in which they reside.
I could not get this solution to select more than one email account at a time.
