HT202213 can you transfer a movie rental via home sharing from pc to laptop?

I rented a HD movie to put on my iPod to then watch on my TV through my component cable, however when I tried to transfer th rental onto my iPod I got an error message saying the movie could not be moved, this could be due to my iPod software being outdated by the movie formatting, as my iPod is 3rd generation touch. I want to know if I can transfer my movie rental from my PC to my laptop, so I can watch it on there instead?

No. You cannot import music to an iDevice using Home Sharing. You sync music the iPad and you can only sync with one iTunes library.

  • Can you transfer between itunes accounts using home sharing

I am wanting buy an Ipad 2 as a present and pre load some apps for them on it. Ill have to sync it to my itunes account to do this. so how do i go about ensuring what i have downlaoded doesnt get lose when they then use their itunes account? Would having to 2 accounts on one computer help?

Apps are locked to the iTunes Store account under which they were purchased and cannot be transferred to another account. Unless the recipient of this gift will be living with you or is someone who you would trust with your iTunes Store account ID and password, preloading the iPad won't be practical since, without your iTunes Store account information, anything you load on the iPad will be erased when the recipient syncs it to their computer. You can gift the apps, if you wish, which would allow the recipient to download the apps through his or her own iTunes Store account. Or you can give an iTunes card along with the iPad and let the person choose their own apps.

  • HT1390 How long can you keep a movie rental, once it's downloaded? Do u need wifi to watch it?

How long can you keep a movie rental, once it's downloaded? Do u need wifi to watch it?

As long as it's been fully downloaded then you shouldn't need to be online in order to watch it.
As to how long you have to watch it, from here :
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.

  • Can i put music on another library after home sharing from my new laptop?

I used home sharing to share the music, but i want to be able to add music on the other library from my new laptop
Is there a way to do this?

    Hello shrutisk1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can use Home Sharing to transfer the music to other computers by following the directions below.
Home Sharing is an easy way to keep all your iTunes libraries in sync across multiple computers at your house. For more information on Home Sharing and syncing your library between two computers, read iTunes: Understanding Home Sharing.
Note: This option allows you to share music between multiple computers if you continue to use both, but it doesn't create a lasting backup. To create a lasting backup, use an external drive or CDs or DVDs.
    Home Sharing requires
    iTunes 9 or later.
An Apple ID that is also an iTunes or App Store Account. If you need to, you can create an iTunes or App Store account without a credit card.
    An active Internet connection.
A Local Area Network connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi), such as one created by a router.
Follow the steps below to use Home Sharing to copy your music between your old computer which has the music on it already, and a new computer.
Be sure iTunes 9 or later is installed on both computers.
    Open iTunes on both computers.
    On your old computer:
If Home Sharing is already enabled, iTunes 11 or later displays the option to Turn Off Home Sharing (Account) under the File > Devices menu. If this is the case, proceed to step 7. Otherwise, choose:
iTunes 11 or later: File > Devices > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
iTunes 9 or 10: Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
Select the Home Sharing icon on the left side of iTunes from where you select music, movies, or TV shows.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Create Home Share.
    On your new computer:
Click the Store menu and choose Authorize computer. Enter your Apple ID and password (that was listed in the Advanced menu in step three or used in step 5).
Choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
Select the Home Sharing icon on the left side of iTunes.
Note: Once Home Sharing is enabled, the Home Sharing option disappears from the left side of iTunes until a Home Share library is found from another computer.
Once your new computer sees the Home Share from your old computer, click that Home Share on the left side of iTunes on your new computer.
Select the content in the Home Share that you want to transfer to your iTunes library on your new computer, or choose Edit > Select All to choose all of it. Then, click the Import button in the bottom-right corner of iTunes.
Wait for the content to finish transferring.

  • Can you share PDF documents using iTunes home sharing?

Can you share several PDF documents in the books section of iTunes to another computer using iTunes home sharing

  • HT3819 Can you use a "guest network" for home sharing?

When I have my Macbook, AppleTV, and Iphone 5G all signed into a guest network my ipod won't recognize AppleTV. However, if I use a network that isn't a guest network it works just fine.
The guest network has a better signal than the non-guest network. That is why I want to use it.
Can a guest network not be used for Home Sharing?

    No

  • Can you transfer files in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 from a Mac computer to a PC that also has Adobe

I am looking into buying Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for my iMac computer, because the guy that I am going to help out is in another state, using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 on his PC, we will both be editing video to be featured on the Pursuit channel.  My question is will we be able to open up each other's video files, seeing that I am on a iMac and he is on a PC if we are both using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5?  Right now I am using Final Cut Pro X, and he can't read my files, the codecs won't work he says.   Please help this is driving me crazy

Yes, project files are cross-platform. There are a few caveats, described here:

  • Can I transfer my music (including non iTunes purchases) from a single laptop to my iPhone without using iCloud in Lion?

Before the upgrade I had 25+ GB of music on my iPhone. Now when I sync, it takes a long time to "restore" the music on the iPhone but it reads as "no content" when done. The usage bar for the iPhone in iTunes reads that the phone has 25+GB of "other" data.  Most of my music is from CDs and not from the iTunes Store. Is it now "iCloud" or nothing if you want music on your phone?
Any device to device work arounds?
    Dave

I went to Apple Care with this question after a month went by with no posts here.  The answer is yes, you don't have to go through the Cloud to get music on your devices.  In fact Music Match is not available to libraries with more than 25000 titles.  For those of you experiencing what I mentioned above the solution is to backup your contacts, mail, photos etc. that are on your phone, (the tech at Apple directed me to do this to the Cloud), then "restore" the iPhone to its factory settings and import the backup.  The restore button is in the opening window when the iPhone is connected in the iTunes program.

  • Connecting iPad to movie library via Home Sharing is very slow to connect (20 mins +)

Hi, I'm trying to connect my iPad to my movie library and it is very slow. Is there any tips to get it to connect. I have an iPad Air (ver 1) and iMac (late 2012). I restarted all the devices and I am able to connect my iMac library to my Apple TV. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Oh and everything is all updated.

How do you transfer a movie rental from desktop to laptop?

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • Video app on iPhone or iPad via Home Sharing is not playing movie's sound or video.

I can successfully connect to iTunes library via Home Sharing on my iPhone 6 Plus and iPad 3rd Generation. In Music app it works ok, but in Videos app, when I try to play a movie it doesn't play the video (but the sound) or the sound (but the video). Sometimes it's one situation and other times is the opposite.

    Greetings avilation,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like when you stream videos to your iOS devices using Home Sharing, you only get either video or audio.
You can find some troubleshooting steps that may help this situation on this page:
Troubleshooting Home Sharing - Apple Support
I'd recommend starting with Step 4 (Check your network connection) in this guide.

  • Apple TV won't play music from one device via Home Sharing.

So I have just bought a new Mac, with which I got an Apple TV. I'm trying to save disk space on my Mac so I've setup my old computer (with my old iTunes library) as a Home Sharing hub kind of thing. However, the Apple TV seems not to want to play music from this device...it shows the song, but the buffering symbol comes up under the song and nothing happens. Sometimes some songs will work, and shuffling also seems to work, but it will randomnly skip some songs without even attempting playback.
I've tried playing the same music on the Apple TV via Home Sharing on my Mac — fine. I've tried listening to the music (and just generally playing music) using Home Sharing from my old laptop to my Mac and it's fine, impressively speedily, in fact.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what may cause this?
    Thanks

I added my music to iTunes years ago. Most of it was with version 6.x of iTunes. I see all of my music and it plays fine so something else must be triggering the problem.
I also have 'Show list checkboxes' checked.

  • HT202213 Can you home share movie rentals?

An Apple representative told me I could download a movie rental to my computer and then watch it later on my apple tv via home sharing.  Is this true?

You are posting in the Apple TV forum, thus I am referring to the Computers icon on Apple TV.
If you are inquiring about home sharing to another computer, post in the appropriate section. Although, I don't think you can do what you are asking.
