Well I'm leaning the other way. I think my present MBP will be the last Apple product I buy.
With the way Apple is going, all New Mac computers are sealed unit that don't allow the user to upgrade them in any way. They are getting more expensive initially. They are impossible to fix, even by Apple. All the parts are either soldered to the Logic Board or glued inside the case parts. The add on warranty only covers manufacturing defects and is expensive. And to fix one out of waranty is close to if not more then a new system.
The only thing different in a Mac, and most other products Apple sells, is the operating system and the cases they come in. As for the OS both have their glitches and at this time there are no viruses that infect OS X. There is more software available for Windows. More choices as to what hardware you can use or upgrade to at a later date.
Mac computers are becoming large iPads or iPhones with built in keyboards.

In iMovie look in the Event Library. You should see an Event named "iPhoto Videos" (assuming the videos are compatible with iMovie).
Each time you open iMovie it will look for any new videos in iPhoto and place thumbnails in the iPhoto Videos Event. You will be given a choice as to whether you want the thumbnails generated now or later. The thumbnails will appear in chronological (date) order in the Event window. Note that the clips themselves are not actually imported to iMovie - they are simply referenced by iMovie (that is, iMovie points to the clips in iPhoto).
Drag clips (or parts of clips) to a project. To start a new project, select File > New Project from iMovie's menu.
Please ask if you need more advice. Otherwise, click on Help > iMovie Help in the menu. There you will find plenty of good information about how to use iMovie, including short video tutorials.

When I trashed the QT player 10 and clicked on the .3g2 movie file, it didn't automatically open with QT 7 Pro. Instead a window opened wanting to convert the file to Flash. Double clicking on it should unzip the file, often resulting in a file in a folder or a file alone. If the file was purchased as FLAC then the file should end in .flac (if you have display extensions turned on). FLAC is a common format but it is poorly implemented on Macs, and Apple is obstinate about supporting it, preferring their own Apple Lossless format. iTunes won't play it and I don't think Quicktime will either. Many other applications will but it is inconvenient for everyday use. The easiest thing to do is to use a converter such as Max or XLD (both free) to convert the file to Apple Lossless (if you desire full-quality comparable to the FLAC format), or to AAC (typical of a file purchased from the iTunes Store). Both can be readily played in iTunes.

The Lightroom serial number is cross-platform. It works on both Windows and Mac.

Yes, certainly, but if you're in the US I would just download the trial and use that for now, since there will be plenty of deals on the full version come the start of the holiday shopping season, especially at places like amazon and big box stores. Usually for much less than adobe's upgrade price.
