HT3964 SMC Reset and Battery still not charging

Few months ago my battery wont charge, I performed a SMC Reset and the battery gets to work fine again. Recently the battery is not charging again right after a long period of inactivity when the macbook air was not plugged or use it for months. Now is working only if it´s plugged to the electrical socket.
I have been reset the SMC on my macbook air but still my battery is not charging, it is 0% and when I disconnect the magsafe it will turn off. What else should I do?

It is true that some posts will go unanswered for a variety or reasons.  Also understand that respondents do so at their own initiative and do so gratis.  If you choose to initiate your own discussion, you may find that there may be some who will solve your problem, and it will not cost you a dime.  it is your choice.

  • SMC Reset and Macbook Pro Battery still not charging

Hi, I bought a new Macbook Pro the Christmas before last (2 years ago) and unfortunately didn't remember to buy the AppleCare. (Didn't have the money to purchase it as I was buying the computer) Anyway, today my charger decided to stop recharging the battery. The battery icon says the battery is charging but the LED light on the charger is not on at all and when I click on the battery status it says "Battery is Not Charging." I've already tried the usual troubleshooting and Resetting the SMC but it didn't work. I also checked the status on the battery and my computer said it was Normal. What else can I do? I really need this laptop for college and the battery has to be usable.

If available, try a different charger.
What does System Report>Power say under AC CHARGER INFORMATION?
    Ciao.

  • Logic board fine - battery still not charging

    hi all,
i have a problem with my battery. here is the issue in the short form: my battery is not charging. the green led light is on even when the battery is not fully charged. the computer recognizes that it is plugged into a outlet, but it doesn't charge to one hundred percent. i've checked the outlet, tried different power adapters, and ran a hardware test on the logic board. all have not solved the issue. the logic board is apparently fine according to the test.
to complicate matters further and give you a better understanding of the problem, i'll describe in more detail the issue. when i turn on the computer after it has been shut down or if i unplug the adapter and then plug it back it, the battery charges briefly (and the led changes to orange) for about ten to fifteen seconds, before it stops charging. over the past three weeks since the problem started, i've gotten the battery to go from 44 percent to 76 percent simply with these short ten second bursts of charge. these ten second bursts only happen right after plugging in the ac adapter. once it stops charging, then it stays like that unless you unplug it and then plug it in again.
so guys, this is my issue. i thought that the only issues associated with this problem could be the power source, the ac adapter, the battery, and the logic board. the power source and the adapter are not the problem. neither is the logic board. although i am getting a new battery because of the recall, it was working just fine up until this issue. that is, it was able to be fully charged. i'm stumped and i don't know what to do. i would greatly appreciate anyone's advice. thanks so much.

I'm sorry it took me so long to see you message and I'm also sorry I do not have a solution to your problem which is exactly the same problem I have. I've done very similar things to it and still I have a problem. At this point my 12-inch is sitting idle probably awaiting a large repair bill. I've been dealing with this for over a year and if you look at the past postings on the discussion board you'll find out that more than a couple of people are or have had this power problem. I got my 12-inch G4 in the spring of '03 and a year or so later I begain to have the same power problems you have had. What has not happened to you, but has to me is that it refuses to either charge a new battery or even power-up pluged directly into the wall outlet. I've been hoping that maybe Apple would recognize there is a defect in this series of G4's and do free repairs, but I started turning blue from holding my breath.

  • New power adapter and battery, still not working?!

A couple days ago, my macbook stopped charging. The power adapter was plugged in, but there was no indication that it recognized it or was charging, so I figured it was a broken power adapter. I bought a new one, plugged it in, everything was fine - until the next day. The new power adapter stopped working as well. So, I go to the genius bar, and they tell me it's my battery. I buy a new battery and plug in the new charger. Everything's working again, until I unplug the power adapter to move my laptop into another room - and now it's not charging again! I tried every power outlet, and something is definitely wrong with the macbook itself. I'm pretty frustrated since I've now spent $200 on new stuff and the problem still isn't resolved.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

B, Have you downloaded and applied this firmware update?

Before you do so, you may want to try just a plain old SMC reset:

  • IPhone 3gs in endless loop and battery is not charging

Hi, I have tried to use as many methods from this forum as well as other forums but so far no success. I am hoping someone will be able to give me some idea. Much much appreciated.
I have a iphone 3gs 16GB. I can't get it to start up to begin with without charging it. The battery bar is red color. When I plug it in to either the charger or directly to my MAC, it will start charging. After a few minutes, the red battery bar will go away and the apple logo will appear. After that, the loading circle will appear and then it goes into an endless loop. I have tried to do a hard restore (power + home buttom), iRecovery or even redsn0w but none work as it cannot detect the device. iTunes also doesn't detect the device. I have cleaned all the connecters as well as tried it on my ipod, it works. Once the apple logo and the loading circle starts, I can't even shut down the iphone. The phone will stop charging after a few minutes and the cycle of charging will start again if I am plug in to the charger.
What should I try? Please help me . Thanks a million!

When you say you have reinstalled iTunes many times, have you followed the directions Apple gives for uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and all it's ancillary applications and processes?
Apple's documentation on the process can be found here:
    Windows XP: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
    Windows Vista or 7: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
    Mac OS X: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224
    I hope this helps.

  • HT3964 what if the battery is not charging and the LED light is off, what should I do

Should I buy a new adaptor?

You charger could be bad...do you have another one to test? You can try resetting your SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't work, & you don't have another charger to try, make an appointment at an Apple store. Take both computer & charger.

  • Iphone 4s battery wont charge. Wokeup yesterday morning and battery had not charged past 1%.. when i took it off charger it lasted all day.. died this evening and now NO charges will turn my phone on it staying in charging mode

    - when i try to remove my iphone from the charger it immediately says it needs to be plugged in.. its been on 3 different charges for over an hour and it is currently connected to my laptop.. nothings happening yet.

Backup the iPhone to your computer via iTunes. Reset it to factory (complete reset in settings -> general menu). DO NOT RESTORE it just yet. Do a complete charge on it and see if this fixes it. If not, it is a hardware fault and needs to be fixed.

    Reinstall Leopard.
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • New battery will not charge

Had Genius Bar install a new battery as the old one was not charging. New Apple installed battery will not charge either. Light on T-connector always shows green even after SMC reset and battery will not charge. Any ideas?

Bring it back to Apple, they may have not seated the cable/connector correctly, or the cableconnector has an issue, or there is a problem with the charging circuit. Bring in your power adaoter with you as well. Apple repairs come with 30 day warranty

Tried another SMC reset and also a second charger and still doesn't work.

    The battery may need replacing.
Check the battery maximum cycle count > Mac notebooks: Determining battery cycle count
And check the adapter >  Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters

My Battery will not charge battery is at 4% now since I've purchased the new battery, When the adapter is plugged in it does not charge with the adapter or the AC cord.  Any ideas what could be the problem, will I have to replace the adapter?

Open SystemInformation  (in Utilities), click 'Power' in the left Navigation panel, then at the right make a screenshot of the whole part called 'Battery Information:'  and post it here, please.
I would avoid the use of DiskWarrior, at least for now.
You may also start DiskUtility and do the 'verify disk', the message at the end of the verify should end with the word 'OK'.

I would do another SMC reset. If nothing changes you should take the computer in to an Apple store for a free diagnostic. You should make an appointment.
