HT4085 My sound isn't working

I have a iPad Ist generation and my sound isn 't working.

Try the standard fixes:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup via iTunes
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • What do I do if my sound isn't working

As of this morning my sound is no longer working nor with or without the use of headphones. I have turned all the volume settings up to high and have not seen a result. Please help!
    Thanks

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed a software equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and restart.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
    14. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Restart and your Mac should start up in normal mode, so you can use speakers again.
If it doesn't work, reset the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If nothing works, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args

  • Sound isn\'t working on hp pavillion

I have a HP pavillion dv7-6135dx entertainment pc.  Recently I was burning a CD from itunes when the computer crashed.  I restarted it, and since then the sound doesn't work.  I have run the diagnostic tests, whcih show the sound is working but nothing is coming out of the speakers.  I have double and triple checked to make sure the sound is turned on.  I have unistalled and re-installed the hd sound, i have re installed beats audio.  Any suggestions?  I fear that I am just going to have to to do a system restore, or just Office Space this thing.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55094.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

Ok, so today my sound suddenly stopped working and i have no idea why. I looked for a red light in the headphone hole and i see nothing. I tried turning the sound up (not all the way) and nothing happened. I also tried doing it in settings...nada. When i try changing the sound there is no weird sign on the sceen either.  I don't know what to do and i was hoping someone did.

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers.
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • My computers sound isn't working

I have a HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC, all of a sudden my sound is not working on my computer after it did its daily updates.  I get a error message that says CAN'T PLAY: make sure headphones or speakers ae connected and that your computers sound card is enabled. With the code 0xc00d3fa (0xc00d3fa).
Any help would appreciated in fixing this problem.

    HiLatty86,
    Welcome to the HP forum!
Thank you for your query, I will try my best to help.
I grasp that after installing an update you have no sound. Here is a link to No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7) that may help. If this is not resolved and you would like additional assistance, would you provide the exact model of Envy Touchsmart 15 you have, How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?,  the operating system you are running  and if it is 32 or  64 bit.

  • HT4085 Sound isn't working on iPad

Sound works with headset on.  But doesn't work with out.

SO I just now had the same problem. A million threads online suggested to try inserting headphones, toothpicks, or even qtips to try and switch the "switch" inside the headphone jack. Everyone had great results from using the toothpick method. Well that didn't work for me. here's what FINALLY WORKED!!--> I wrapped a toothpick in fashion tape (fashion tape is basically stretchy double sided tape. If you don't have any ask some girls and someone will have). My thought was that maybe this "switch" didn't need to be flicked or pushed like a button. Maybe it was stuck in like a button that has been pushed in. I used the sticky toothpick to pull up the button/switch. Basically, take the toothpick and pressdown on the switch (supposedly the botton is inside the jack at the 6 or 7-0clock position) and then press the toothpick away (so that you are pushing in the opposite direction [1-oclock]). do this multiple times so you're flicking the toothpick back and forth. Just make sure you press firmly enough in the 6-oclock position so the tape can get stuck to the button.
    Two tips for this method:
    1) I had tried a manicure q-tip first, which in hindsight could've cleaned out the headphone jack, facilitating a surface that can get stuck to the fashion tape effectively.
    2) You can see in the photo attached that I wrapped the tape on the toothpick a little past the edge so that there was extra tape on the end of the toothpick. That was (and this is just my theory) to make up for the fact that toothpicks have a tapered end. I figured that having this extra loose bit of tape at the end would allow me to reacch into any nook or crany of the headphone jack where this mysterious "button" might be lurking.

  • Help!!! Sound isn't working!

When I plug my earbuds into my Ipod touch there is no sound but when I remove the headphones there is sound. I know this must be a problem with my ipod because I have tried other earbuds and it still won't work. How can I fix this without having to buy a new ipod.? I would also like to say that my sound effects thing keeps popping up randomly and turning my volume all the way up. I need help please.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • HT4623 I don't know what's happened but the media sound isn't working unless I have headphones in. Games, voice notes, music, radio, touch tones and lock tones aren't working and it's also starting to not charge properly as we'll now. What do I do ?

I've tried resetting all settings and tried to alter the sound in settings. It plays ringtones and alarm works but no message alert tone or touch tone lock tone radio and when I try to turn the volume up by the buttons I just get the bell with no volume bar. I don't know what's going on it's annoying I don't wanna have to wear headphones all the time. How do I fix it ???

Clean iPhone charging port very well with toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol. If still problem the replacement part is charging port assembly with flex cable, lower mic and home button flex connector, all a less than $10 single part. Apple handles this with replacement iPhone 4 for $149, make Genius reservation.

  • My sound isn't working at all. i am trying to watch a video on youtube. suggestions?

my sound isnt working, i have tried all of the help suggestions but i still cant hear anything. Any suggestions?

    Some other things to check:
In system preferences/sound/output, make sure the volume is turned up, and mute is not checked.
Make sure that the volume control at the bottom of the youtube screen is turned up. (Youtube menu bar)
If you have no sound at all, with any source, try taking a set of headphones and plug them in and out several times.
    Try a NV/PRAM reset:
Quit all applications, power off, power back on holding the following keys:  OPTION COMMAND P R
Continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times, then release, reboot.
