If you are having an issue with updating your iPhone, try it through a different method like in iTunes or through software update on your iPhone in settings. If that does not work then follow the steps in the article below to force a restore on your iPhone. Dont know if accidently fixed it or not i got it to be recogniced by itune im restoring it now. i held the power/sleep button till turned off. then while holding the home button under the screen connected it to the usb wire .. also i change the usb port i was using on my computer dont know if it was luck or what but glad i got my phone back.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

In updating my iPod to 6.1.2, I received an error during the update. Now, my ipod is not rebooting. It continues to display a screen showing usb to Itunes picture. Turning off and back on, it goes back to this picture. I don't know how to reset so that I can restore from my backup.
A similar thing happened when I updated the ios on my ipad. But, I was able to reboot, and then restore from backup. How can I get my ipod to reboot and allow restore when it is not even recognized as I reconnect to my computer?Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer

what is firmware file? It says it is not compatible when I try to update iphone with latest software
I've used the more like this.... they are all full of non answers and shots rather than being helpful unfortunately... does anyone have a real approach to resolving this issues for the dozens looking through the multiple threads for a a helpful response? If so guidance would be greatefully appreciated.

I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary. -

You need iTunes 10.0 or greater to update your phone...iTunes isn't confused at all. If you're on a Mac, you'll need OS X 10.5.8 or greater to update iTunes to 10.0 or greater.

The iPhone 3G is Not Compatible with iOS 6...
It also appears that your phone may have been Hacked and / or Jailbroken...
If this is the case... you are out of luck... Because...
