HT4854 Unable to download Mountain Lion because it takes too long....

So far am unable to download Mountain Lion because it's taking so long that my computer goes to sleep then it stops downloading and I have to start all over.  Says it takes 9 hours to download.  This makes it almost impossible to get the product downloaded.   I'm very frustrated and would like to either be able to get it done or get my money back.
Any suggestions?  Thanks.

You need to go to Energy Preferences and set computer to
never sleep until you finish your download.  Then you can
re-enable it.
BTW, since it takes that much time to download, when the
download completes and the install dialog comes up, cancel
the install and save the installer app to a safe place (USP memory
stick, external drive, etc.) so you don't need to download again
in the future.
After you have save it, then you can run the installer by just
double clicking the app in Applications.

  • Downloading Mountain Lion ... taking too long.

Currently downloading Mountain Lion. However it is taking an abnormally long time.  Not the internet provider ... suggestions?

Thank you for the feed back, appreciated.  Will keep being patient.  Others have reported it does take some time, but I was just becoming somewhat concerned as it has already been 2hrs and it doesn't even to have seemed to reach the half way point.
Will go with the provider theory

  • Unable to install Mountain Lion because HD is "being used for backups"?

I have been unable to install mountain lion because it is saying that my hard drive is being used for time machine backups. That makes no sense, because I use an external hard drive to backup my computer. I'm not sure why this is happening.

Do you, for some reason, have an item named "Backups.backupdb" on your hard drive? If so, you need to get rid of that in order to install.

  • Unable to download Mountain Lion after purchase in App store.

After purchasing Mountain Lion in App store, I have been unable to successfully download a copy.
It was not interrupted, it just stops.
Every attempt (including the first) fails at 142 MB, with the meaningless "unable to download" error. In the console log I find this:
7/31/13 2:32:56.894 PM storeagent: ISStoreURLOperation: Expected bytes (4437341116) did not match actual (142374555)! Setting error. (See 9215068)
indicating the error. The file was expected to be 4.4 GB (yes), but does not match actual 142 MB...?
I have found references to this error, but no real fix. I have tried every "fix" suggested; Safe boot, guest user login, deleting temp files, hidden files, app store files, debug mode in app store, repairing permissions, changing ethernet ports, changing DNS (loved that one), and others.
I finally erased the hard drive with zeroes, re-installed 10.7, software updated to 10.7.5 and immediately attempted download - it still fails.
I also have no virus software or little snitch, or anything else that would prevent downloads. I have been able to download free and purchased software from the app store (xcode, pages, ibooks author) - that are more than 142MB.
So this is not an ISP, modem, or some other thing preventing me from downloading using the app store. It is a problem *only* with downloading Mountain Lion.
This seems like an Apple problem. Anybody have a real fix?

Are you quite sure? Check your model identifier. If you have the first model released, then it cannot run anything past Lion. Be sure you meet ALL the requirements.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • I am unable to Download Mountain Lion for my Mac Pro.

This really *****. Now I know why I can't download Mountain Lion!!!! I have an 8 core Mac Pro at 3ghz
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro2,1
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          3 GHz
      Number of Processors:          2
      Total Number of Cores:          8
L2 Cache (per Processor):          8 MB
      Memory:          16 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.33 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MP21.007F.B06
      SMC Version (system):          1.15f3
      Serial Number (system):          157191HTUPZ
      Hardware UUID:          00000000-0000-1000-8000-0019E3F8CB92
And It is too slow to run Mountain Lion. I doubt it. This would not be the case if Apple Supported the Cores parallelism as they are suposed to do. I know this computer is faster than my MacBookPro; How about it Apple, Why not write software to support all my 8 cores and you won;t have to force me to stop using the new Apple System Software. Why can't we users be the ones to determine if our machines run too slow under Mountain Lion? I can't afford a new Mac Pro; you surely now how to hurt a User/Developer.
    Thanks for Nothing, Apple!

  • Unable to download Mountain Lion from the App store

Hi, when I try to download Mountain Lion from the app store I get the message, " The product distribution file could not be verified ... " Obviously I'm doing something really stupid. Advice welcome!
    Thanks

A belated thanks for your help. I'd never have solved it otherwise. Maybe Apple could change the automatic reply that I got initially ("The product distribution file could not be verified ....") othewise they risk loosing customers.
    Thanks again.

  • HT1338 My new iMac would not download Mountain Lion because "your computer is not compatible" WHAT?! Why is that? Please help

Why do I keep getting a message that my new iMac is not compatible to download Mountain Lion OS? How do I fix that?

Is it brand new with ML preinstalled?
If so, your only way to download is to use the recovery method (hit keys Command + R while restarting). Can't use the app store.
Why are you trying to download?

  • Unable to install Mountain Lion because of Time Machine

I tried to install OS X Mountain Lion.
After I accepted the conditions, I have to choose the disk to install on.
But I'm unable to choose Macintosh HD because Time Machine uses it to save back-ups.
How do I unable Time Machine, and how do I delete the back ups, it takes half of my memory...

Do you, for some reason, have an item named "Backups.backupdb" on your hard drive? If so, you need to get rid of that in order to install.

  • HT3258 unable to download mountain lion?

Unable to get download of mountain lion from app store.

I revised in all the blogs mention this failure and nobody knows the solution to this message. The app was charged to my account as purchased.

  • Unable to download Mountain Lion OS X

It has me agree to the Terms of Conditions but then says that "This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. Delete this copy of the application, and go to the Purchases page of the Mac App Store to download a new copy." So I go to the app store to retrieve another, and it wants me to buy another one. I don't know what to do, and if it doesn't work I at least want my $20 back HELP!

    This has worked for some.
    - Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
    - Quit the App Store
    - In Finder - Go>Go to folder...  (or Apple-shift-G)
    - Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
    - It will take you to a folder.  Delete com.apple.appstore
    - Launch the App Store.  Sign in and then reclick the Mountain Lion buy.
    There is a contact option.

  • Download error. I'm unable to download mountain lion.

I'm trying to download OS X mountain lion, but the download does not start.
It says that an error occurred. How do I see what error is this?
    Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot Carolyn for the tips, but i didn't manage to get it working through reinstallation of the 10.7.4 combo.
Deb from iTunes Store customer support pointed me to this beauitful article,
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16063398#16063398
I didn't have to install any package, just delete the corrupted file and it works brilliantly after that.

  • Unable to download mountain lion

could anyone help me as im unable to redeem my software from the app store

It's a two email system. One email has a locked pdf that you need to open with an app such as Preview. It will ask for a password to unlock the pdf. The second email has the pdf password to unlock the file. In the unlocked pdf you will find the redemption code that you need to use with the Mac App Store (MAS) app, not the iTunes app.
Open the MAS app, be sure that you are signed into your account (Store menu), go to the Featured pane. Use the Redeem link in the Quick Links.
