I have a mid 2009 iMac that doesn't have Thunderbolt display, but has a mini-dvi port.
Will the Thunderbolt cinema display 27" still work when connected to this mini-dvi port ?
I thought it would be better going for a thunderbolt display monitor rather than the older version, so when i upgrade my machine in the future it stays compatible.

No. A TB display can only be connected to a TB source.

You can use the keyboard you want with your iMac. However, note that some keys, as the Command key, aren't present in non-Apple keyboards. For example, in a non-Apple keyboard, you have to press the Windows key because that's the replacement of the Command key of an Apple keyboard

I have a Belkin F5D8055ea USB wireless adapter fitted and the system recognises the device, this is as far as I have got as I am a complete novice on Apple/Mac machines. Anyone any ideas please?

Hi, I'm a PC user from birth, and want to purchase an iMac, but the 500gb-1tb isn't enough storage for what I currently have on my PC (I have 4x 250gb hard drives, plus I'd need more room for the Mac OS). My question is, can I use any HD in the iMac, or does it have to be a "mac" hard drive? Also, can I hook up any external hd's? If this is the case, I'll buy 5-10 external enclosures for my hd's and build a custom box for them all. (Or put it in a slower PC I have, and run as a server, as I have to sell my good PC to afford a iMac)

Can I use an external hard drive on my iMac if the internal drive is dead?

The internal 1 TB hard drive on my 2009 w/Mavericks hard drive is failing. I clone that drive to an external hard drive as a backup and often boot from the external when I want to do some maintence (Disk Warrior) on the iMac drive. So far Disk Warrior has saved that iMac drive but eventually it won't be able to do so.
I looked into buying a new internal drive and replacing the old iMac drive but the procedures are not as easy as I hoped. So my question becomes: if/when that internal drive goes belly up will I be able to set the external drive as the main drive through System Preferences and automatically boot into it each time I need the machine? Or would I have to boot into a USB Maintenance drive then reset to reboot into the external drive each time I wanted to use the machine.
Of course I'll be looking into buying a new iMac but until then I want to use this older machine as much as possible.

Can't use disc warrior 4.4 with my iMac lion

I have tried pushing "c" when restarting the computer to boot from my Disc Warrior (4.4) disc but it is ignored. When I push the "option" button on startup to boot from the disc warroir disc I get the dreaded 3 beep sound and I have to turn off the computer. What is going on? I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

My personal experience with Disk Warrior is that the latest major release of OS X does not get burned to their DVD. Therefore, if your hardware and operating system ship post-date to the DiskWarrior boot contents, the DVD boot may not support your hardware. Alsoft attempts to make this known on their site. This is why they recommend copying DiskWarrior to a bootable, physical disk other than your boot disk.
I have an external USB drive with Lion and DiskWarrior on it. If your iMac has a SD card reader, you could build a bootable OS X SDcard with DiskWarrior installed on it. Probably want the 16GB SD[HX]C size now.

How can I use my 23" cinema display with a pc laptop?

I see various questions out there about using Apple Cinema Displays and PCs, but each one has its own twist. If anybody can help with this scenario, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I use one of the last editions of the Powerbook G4. I just bought a 23" Cinema Display and, of course, love it. It is supposed to replace an old CRT monitor in the home office, which brings me to my problem. Can I hook up a pc laptop to use with the Cinema Display (I ocassionally need the pc laptop and my wife and kid use it as well). I realize it will depend on the graphics card. Offhand I'm not sure which one it is, but the Dell is just shy of a year old and has good graphics, albeit VGA. I need a female DVI (I assume DVI-I) and a male VGA connector. Do these exist? I'm also looking for a PC Card DVI-I graphics card, but I don't know if these exist either.
I could buy a Dell (or some other brand) monitor that has both DVI and VGA connections, but I really want to keep the Cinema Display. It's gorgeous.

Thank you for the reply. I kind of figured this was the case. I have found two "boxes" that supposedly handle this problem. One is from Dr. Botts called Vgator and the other is from Gefen (www.gefen.com), but these solutions are very expensive -- $300 each -- and I am not certain of the quality of the picture. For that kind of money, I could buy a cheap PC monitor and just use the Cinema Display for Mac-only needs, as it was intended.

Take a look around you here in this forum. Many people are talking about having problems using FaceTime. A few users claim to have contacted Apple and Apple says that they are aware of an issue with FaceTime and that they are working on it.
Some users claim that upgrading to iOS 7 solved there problem with FaceTime. Take a look around the forum and read some of the other discussions.

Yes, it supports target display mode. Windows can be run with either Parallels or Boot Camp.
