I tried to update my iPhone 3GS with iOS, data was restored but on continue with activation in the iTunes stores, it is replying "We're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time." what could be the reason?
Hmm, well... iTunes trys to activate your iPod using the Apple server to make sure you have bought it legit.
Two things come into my mind:
1) Your iTunes can't access the internet.
2) Apples activation servers are down.
That's just my cents, maybe anyone else has an idea. -
After updating my ipod touch to the 6.0 it wont work at all. It shows the apple and the flashes a page then it goes back to the apple. What should I do with it.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. -
My iPad worked beautifully until I tried to update iOS. now it is dead.
my iPad 2 worked beautifully with iOS 6.1.3. got a notice to update to iOS 7.0.3. Kept getting error message. a kind person online advised me to connect my iPad to my laptop and sync with iTune. I made it sure that my MacPro had the latest iTune version. After 3 hours of downloading, I got a message on my MacPro that the iPad could not be restored. The unknown error occured (2001). So I disconnected ipad from Mac. Now I cannot open my iPad. All I see is the picture of the charge plug tip with an arrow pointing up to iTune logo. when I reconnect after restarting my MacPro, I get the same message.
Is there anyway I can go beyond the current frozen screen on my iPad and go back to the old version of iOS 6.1.3???? please help. I live in very remote area and very far away from any Apple store. Please. Please. As you guessed. I, like millions of other users after the update had their iPad go into "recovery mode" only to have the only way to get OUT of it, by restoring it to factory settings.
Luckily, having had problems with Apple / iTunes before, I had a back up from the beginning of the year, sweet! I can just restore it to that and life is good. NOPE! Since the update, it made the backup incompatible with my iPad. Seriously? What kind of person creates an update for a device that denies backwards compatable capabilites...FOR backups!?!? Now I'm stuck trying to find some program that will decode the backup files, because you know...it would be too simplistic to back up devices NORMALLY so that you didn't have to use third party programs to fix backups....to back up your device.
TL;DR: How do I restore my device to a backup. Anyone know of any free third party software that can restore, backup restores?

I attempted to upgrade my Ipad 2 from ios 7.2 to 7.4.
During the upgrade, the Itunes on my PC was prematurely terminated by a failed IE application.
the end result is that my Ipad is now stuck at the Apple screen, cannot be switched off, will not be recognised by the Itunes application running on the PC and is generally a brick.
Any suggestions? Please.FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Hold Sleep/Wake button down and slide to turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug.
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTune has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTune.
7. Select "Restore iPad"... -
I tried to update my iphone4, in the middle it gave an error and now when try to connect it the computer doesnt even detects it and neither does itunes
Power the phone off completely. Plug the USB end of the cord into the computer, leaving the other end unplugged from the phone. While the phone is powered off, open up iTunes, hold down the home button on the phone, and plug in the USB cord to the phone, making sure you keep holding down the home button. In about 15 seconds you should get a pop-up in itunes saying that it's detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Click 'Ok' and 'Restore'.
Your iOS update crashed and your phone is in recovery mode. The good news is that this will fix it, bad news is that unless you had everything backed up in either iTunes or iCloud, you've lost everything as your phone was wiped when the iOS update crashed. -
I tried to update my iphone4 to enable iO5 and now my phone just shows itunes plugin picture??
Connect it to the charger and let it charge for a while. Then try again. Never upgrade your phone without first connecting the charger. Don't let the battery go dead or the entire device could become disabled.

tried to update my iphone4s, the update fail, now iTunes can not see my phone
Hi kjpservices,
So it sounds as if your iPhone does not appear in iTune after a failed update to iOS, is that right? In order to get it back into iTunes you will want to use one of these articles, depending on what kind of computer you have -
For a Windows PC, use this -
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If you are using a Mac, use this -
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
Once you get ths iPhone back into iTunes, try the update again. If it fails, post back and we can continue troubleshooting from there.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I have a "firmware file not compatable" message whilst trying to update my iPhone4 from Sofftware Version 5.1 to 5.1.1 via iTunes. I have tried about 3 times and keep getting the same message. Any ideas/suggestions?
Since posting the above - I have now tried downloading the update on my iPhone rather than via iTunes, and its just worked and installed and seems fine! Was a lot quicker as well than the download time via iTunes

I tried to update itunes and now it won't open, how do I fix it? Will uninstalling and reinstalling erase my library?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
