HT5262 I have my iPad 2 connected to my computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalledn iTunes. I have checked to be sure that I have Apple Mobile devices app on my computer. I am still unable to update my iPad 2.
I have repeatedly attempted to update my ipad 2 through itunes on my windows 7 pc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. I have checked to verify that I have Apple Mobile devices downloaded. What else can I do to update my device?
Sounds more like you have a problem with your apple id. For starters go to that page click manage my apple id and singn in. If you can't sign in reset password.

if you can sign in there, try to sign in to itunes on your computer.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I had the same problem. iTunes would not recognize my wife's phone as a device. My phone was just fine. So here is how I fixed her problem after exhausting all the apple support tips. First thing I did was go to apple.com and saved the newest iTunes software to the desk top (do not install yet). Then I went into control pannel to uninstall software. Uninstall the following....Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple software update, Bonjour, and then finally uninstall iTunes. Then reboot your system, once reboot is complete go to your desktop and install the newest iTunes that you saved earlier. This worked like a charm...let me know if it helps

The iTunes upgrade didn't complete. Message comes up that says: "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privideges to start system services." ...And neither Abort, Retry, or Ignore work.

I have tried and confimed that you can download the previous version from some web-site about the version 10.5.1.42.
Remove/un-install 10.5.2.11 and restart your computer.
Install the old version 10.5.1.42
and then you can find the "Devices" on the left column and showing synchronizing when you connect the cable.

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.
