HT5621 I only receive iMessage on my ipad not my iPhone, when looked in settings under messages then under send and receive only my email address is ticked and an unknown phone number not mine is present but grayed out not ticked ?
It's not my phone number under settings / messages/ send and receive, it's greyed out , not ticked and not changeable, so that's probably why iMessages only come into my ipad not my iPhone. Think it'll be the original phone number the phone had before my own number was assigned to it. How can it be changed?
Turn off imessage and turn it back on. Then check the settings again.
If that doesn't work, then you may need to restore from your backup, if that doesn't woirk then restore as new.

Okay, so my friends music downloaded to my iPhone when i put it on his computer to charge and i re-synced it to mine and all his music is still there but blank and wont play how can i get it off of my phone, its so annoying!! Wrong number in iMessage
simple fix
go to settings- messages - send and receive- select the numbers and emails you want to use - deselect the ones you don't need

if you cant check or uncheck these do this turn imessage off then
reset all settings
settings-general-reset-reset all settings
now reconnect to wifi
settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join
if issue persists back up and restore as new via iTunes

Question: I have a new iphone 4s and tried to start using imessage. It will not let me choose my mobile no. only my email address for the send and receive. Can anyone please give me any ideas to reticfy this issue.
I have the same exact problem. I have literally done everything that everyone says works but it hasn't solved mine. I went to the Recieved at and It has my number and my email right under neath it but I can not select my Number. My Email is clickable but my number is like a super faded grey not like you can't see it but it is not close to black.

i had greyed out wifi on my iphone 4s, looked on the net how to fix it and it said to use a hairdryer which worked it greyed out again 5 mins after, so i did it again this happened 3 times then the 4th time the screen went white any ideas whats happned an how to fix it?
No, sounds like when you dropped it an cracked the screen it may have also damaged the logic board or the repair person damaged a cable.

If my phone service is disconnected, can I still use the number to iMessage? Under my setting in iMessages it only allows me to select my linked emails and the telephone number is there but grayed out and i can't seletect it ! It wont activate. I just recentely got AT&T. When I had verizon before and my phone got disconnected it allowed me to still iMessage off my number.
If your phone service is disconnected, it's not your number any more.
If you "just got AT&T", how can it be disconnected? -
My iMessage does not recognize my phone number under "send and receive"
I had to restore my iphone and now it is unable to connect to iMessage. It says "waiting for activation" and then it will fail. Under send and receive, my phone number appears to be clicked on, but does not have the check mark next to it.

When I try to use iMessage on my iPad my phone number doesnt come up, only my email address does. HELP !!!!!!
It is OK to use the same apple id on multiple devices. That is how it was intended to be used. The phone number used must be a number registered on an iPhone. I receive imessages and face time calls on my iPad, iPhone and imac. Sometimes the email addresses and iPhone numbers don't properly register on all device. Logging out and back in on all devices can fix the issue.
Now with the release of ios 8 other compatible Apple devices can use the iPhone over a WiFi network to send and receive vioce calls as well. -

Troubleshooting telephone-number activation (iPhone only)
After each step, toggle FaceTime and iMessage off and then on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Ensure that your iPhone is set to the correct time zone. Tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone is displayed, turn Set Automatically off and then choose the correct time zone, date, and time. Then turn Set Automatically on again.
Ensure that FaceTime has not been restricted: Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
Verify that you can send SMS messages. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime.
Contact your carrier to verify that there are no restrictions or blocks on text messages. Blocks on text messaging will prevent iMessage and FaceTime registration.
If you are unable to activate iMessage or FaceTime on a device after remote wiping it, wait at least 24 hours and try again.
If "Waiting for Activation" is displayed, leave FaceTime and iMessage enabled for 24 hours. Toggling FaceTime or iMessage off and on will cause the registration process to start over.

cant receive or send messages on my iPad. Keep getting "message failed to send" and it is green instead of blue. This happened after I turned on iCloud on my iPhone. Would that have anything to do with this problem? It's like its not sincing to my phone but I can send & receive emails ok.
iOS 7.1.2, huh? It MAY be having some trouble with the iOS 8.x devices and latest iCloud features. Although it meets the minimum system requirements, it does not meet the recommended ones - System requirements for iCloud - Apple Support
You should try Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support - this is generally the first step in troubleshooting, all devices - for all time

As a last resort*, Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support - *this document tells that all your data will be lost but provides steps to back-up (Before section) then restore your data (Restore section #4) -
My iPhone will not send an iMessage. It sends everything as SMS. I have ensured that my Apple ID is signed in and that my phone number is enabled for use in both FaceTime and iMessage
I had the same problem. I went in and added my email address to iMessage and deleted the text to my friends that have iPhones and sent another to test it and it worked. Only thing is now my non iPhone friends don't receive my pic text. I had to turn off iMessage for it to work. Apple needs to fix this ASAP!

Why are my text messages being sent through my Apple ID to only one person and through my phone number to all other contact when using iMessage?

If i back up my phone due to the wifi option being grayed out it says to connect to itunes and reset my phone but everything will get deleted that wont happen if everything is in my icloud account correct
If Wi-Fi is greyed out, it is not possible to backup to iCloud.
If the device is backed up to iTunes and contacts, calendars, notes, etc are synced to a supported application or cloud service, and media and pictures are on the computer, then a restore will not cause any data to be lost. -
I lost my iPhone. I took my wife's old iPhone and had my phone number changed to it but my iTunes only recognizes it as her phone and won't let me sync my account. Help?
