HT5628 why cant i install windows 8 on a macbook air 13-inch, Late 2010?

why cant i install windows 8 on a macbook air 13-inch, Late 2010?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can install Windows 8 on your computer because it can run Windows 8, but you can't install the Windows support software that makes Windows run properly, so probably things like the Wi-Fi card, the sound and the graphic card may not work without these drivers.
That's just an Apple restriction. Apple has decided to give Windows 8 support to the most recent Macs, leaving old Macs with Windows 7. Unfortunately, to run Windows 8 properly, the only option is to install it on a virtual machine. Apart from that, if you want to install Windows 7 with Boot Camp, you can do it

Download and intall the Windows Support software. You can start Bootcamp Assistant again and only select the option to download the support software. Then follow the instructions to save and install the support software.
Or, manually download the support software here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/downloads/.

    Hi
Hi I just got my new Apple TV and I cant figure out how to connect it with My MacBook Air (11-inch, Late 2010- Processor  1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) OSX Version 10.8

Are you referring to mirroring or you just unable to set up homesharing.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

I have installed Windows 7 into my Macbook Pro 15 inch with Lions as operating system.  (current model with 2.2 GHz i7 processor, 500 GB HD ad 5400 rpm).  When I started with boot camp, the system promped me to create a disc, which I presume is for the drivers for windows 7.  Now windows is intalled.  What do I do with the CD that the system created for me?  Also, why does the system automatically start in Win7 instead of Lion.  I need to pression the option key to have it start in OS X.  I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.

Insert it while you are in Windows, if it does not autostart run setup.exe.
Choose your startup disk using Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk (in OSX) or Control Panel>Boot Camp>Startup Disk (in Windows)

  • I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp

I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp but Boot Camp Assistant i showing an error that the disk cannot be portioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disc and use disk utility to format it was a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant Again.
I had already installed teh first time Windows on my MacBook Air and Mac Book Pro. Actually I had more issues to install on the pro than Air.
But my Macbook Air had an issue on November 2013, 3 weeks after buying it and Apple gave me a new MacBook Air but they only transferred the information on my mac and the windows partion was lost according to them, they could copy it in to my new MacBook Air. Now that I am trying to install my windows I can not access to the aprtion section and get the error message from above.
What can I do to to install it? I am using a 32GB USB and OEM Windows 8 at USB External Drive. The same I used before. I dont know understand what changed if I did it before?
    Please advise..

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
    restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
    restart boot camp assistant
    Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.

How to install windows 7 on Old Macbook Pro 15'inch 2.3 Core 2 Duo:
I want to known how to install windows 7 on Old Macbook 15'inch 2.3 Core 2 Duo by using usb
I try many time, but after restart bootcamp partition, apple show blinking folder error
I think this firmware not support to install windows by usb
    NOTE:
I Cannot install Apple New OSX Mountain Lion, Mavericks etc in this MAC
If I cannot install windows 7 on this MAC, so tell me what I will do with this MAC  ?

I agree with the optical drive, mine acted strange, and i thought people were crazy and my drive was shot, but a simple cleaning disc worked miracles.
But- are you trying to reboot with both the USB install and the DVD install both plugged in?  that would definitely cause confusion.
Do this, reboot with NOTHING plugged in.  Once you hear the Mac chime, immediately press and hold option.
You should only see the Mac HD, and Recovery Partition.
THEN plug in your external DVD, and wait a min or two, you should see a disc icon appear next to the recovery partition that says something like windows.  If that doesnt appear after a min or two, unplug it and put the USB stick and do the same thing.  I had to do it this way on my mid 09 MBP.
Let me know if this works to start the install.  If not we may have to start over with Bootcamp Assistant

How do I install Windows on my macbook pro retina display so that I can play an external cd

I inserted a flashdrive and followed the bootcamp directions.  I then thought that I could purchase windows online and download that program.  When I went to buy windows online, it was $199.00 so I started searching further for an alternative.  That led me to blogs regarding parallels, fusion and Virtualbox info.   Which led me to more confusion after searching the apple store to buy paralles.  I then found out that I needed a windows disc or something to download to actually get windows.     Then I quit.
I'm not sure why this particular CD wont play.  Some of my music CDs do play so I know the device works.

  • How can I install Windows 7 on my Macbook air

I recent purchased a Macbook air mid-2011 and I want to install a copy of Windows 7 by Boot Camp. But I did not know why I cannot reboot the Windows after the distribution completed (I had a Sumsung mobile DVD-ROM which works well when I use it to install apps). With my old Macbook 2010, of course, which had a DVD-ROM inside, it will automatically reboot into Windows installation . According to the Boot Camp, the 1st step is to make a ISO-image of Windows 7. However, I did not know how to do it. Please help me.
    Thanks!

  • Why would I want Windows on my new MacBook Air?

I have a beautiful new MacBook Air and I'm running through all the Updates etc.  Then I see Bootcamp which is supposed to help me install Windows.  My question is, why would I want windows?  Are there things that Windows can do that Mac can't do?  Or do I just need to learn what the equivalents are of the old windows programs in my new operating system eg in windows i would use explorer to search the web - on my mac i use safari - are there equivalents to microsoft word and publisher and powerpoint just in Mac language and what are they called?

.  My question is, why would I want windows?
I have no idea why anyone would.
Are there things that Windows can do that Mac can't do?
    No.
are there equivalents to microsoft word and publisher and powerpoint just in Mac language and what are they called?
You can buy Microsoft Office for the Mac, but you should consider a number of better alternatives to Microsoft's bloatware. Some are free.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice ($10 but older version is free if you can find it)
    OpenOffice (donation-supported)
    Numbers ($19.99)
    Keynote ($19.99)
    Pages ($19.99)
I use Numbers and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • How to install Windows 7 on a MacBook Air?

    Hi everybody,
I am sorry in case this has been covered before, but i couldnt find anything searching different categgories here, so i´d appreciate some help.
I have got a late 2011 MacBook Air with lots of SSD and so on and i want to install windows 7.
I bought a wndows 7 OEM DVD (actually, two discs, one says support software)
I have tried to run bootcamp and follow the instructions, but to now end.
on my macbook air, i get the option "create a windows 7 disc" or something like that (the first option), which doesnt help me because i dont have optical drive
when i start boot camp on my iMac, this option will be greyed out.
Also, I have tried to to ISO copys of the windows DVD and save them to a USB stick but i just wouldnt come to any result.
does anybody have a good, comprehensive instruction on how to install windows 7 on an MBA withou optical drive?
Also, is 30GB OK for Win 7 if you basically dont wanna do to much in windows (no office etc, just some small clients)
    thanks!

30GB is not enough, especially on an SSD. Normally 50-60GB and with SSD I'd go with 80-90GB.
http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp faq, how to, special instructions for Air
There is a program to create DVD from ISO or .exe
Apple Boot CAmp Assistant should have prompted to save a driver for you to support a USB-DVD, in addition to the normal Apple B.C. drivers you save to flash card.
Disk Utility is not a good method for burning Windows DVDs.

  • Anyone manage to install Windows 8 on new Macbook air?

    Hello,
Got a new "June 2013" MacbookAir 13" 8GB 256SSD and I've been trying for days to install Windows 8 PRO 64-bit using Bootcamp. No joy. Tried both a USB key and an external DVD drive. Same problem all the time: in the Windows 8 setup, I selec the country and language, press Next and it tells me that a "DVD media driver" is missing. I browse to the WINSTALL and BOOTCAMP directories on the USB key which Bootcamp created, it doesn't find any drivers.
If I use Windows 7 32-bit, it gets to the country/keyboard selection and then freezes.
Is it just that Bootcamp doesn't support Haswell yet? That's a pity cos it means I need to keep two laptops.
    Thanks for any advice,
    - Alan.

    Got it to work finally.
Used BootCamp Assistant to download the Windows drivers to a USB key and create a BootCamp partition. Don't use it to create a USB boot disk.
That's my biggest tip - use a DVD not a USB boot disk.
Also, if you get a "media driver missing" error, then get a different ISO image and burn it to DVD. Don't use IMG files converted to ISO files.
When Windows setup boots, you'll probably need to click on the advanced drive options and re-format the BOOTCAMP partition. Otherwise Windows will say that it can't install on it. Be careful that you select that one.
During the setup, Windows will reboot. Remember to hold down the Alt key when you hear the dong and select the Windows DVD (first time) and the Windows drive (second time).
After Windows installs, install the BootCamp drivers in WININSTALL\BootCamp on the USB key by running setup.
Takes maybe 15 mins to install Windows 8.

  • Im trying to install windows 7 on my macbook air 13" where can i get the ISO image file?

i have no CD drive. i bought the macbook air in march right after spring break. so any help with getting the ISO. thanks in advance

Windows 7 is no longer available as a ISO download, so you have to buy Windows 7 on a DVD at eBay or Amazon and an external optical drive in order to install Windows.
Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow these steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

  • Blinking cursor when installing Windows 7 on a MacBook Air (Late 2010)

    Hi.
After spending several days trying to solve this, I turn to this forum.
I have a MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2012) and I had no problem installing W7 on that machine.
My wife has a MacBook Air (Late 2010), on which I am trying to do the same.
I use an external LaCie BD/DVD reader/writer, which I also used for the MBP without problems.
After partitioning and restarting, the install DVD doesn't seem to want to work with the MBA, though. Only a blinking cursor appears. Occationally some message like "Error code 5" or BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot."
I've tried starting with Alt, and when the screen appears where I can choose the Install DVD, there is no HD image, as on the MBP in the same situation, but just an image of a disk under which is written "EFI boot" - and it keeps poofing, appearing, poofing appearing. Actually, the first of these poofing images is actually called Windows, but choosing this returns the same blinking cursor.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, as well as repairing the disk.
Any ideas how to solve this?
    Best,
    Richard

Can I install Window 7 Professional on a boot camp partition on my 1.8/2GB/64GB SSD MBA?
Today I installed Win7 Preimum on my brand new MBA (1.8/4GB/128GB SSD).  I started with a stock MBA and first installed the new version of Parallels (7).  After that installation, I installed Win7 Premium, followed by MS Office for Students and MS Streets and Trips.  I should note that I also added slightly over 500 tunes for iTunes.
I was hoping to only install Excel and Word, but I never saw an option to go custom and as a result, all of Office for Students got installed.
With Parallels I didn't have to partition the hard drive. While I'm not totally sure, I think Parallels "grabs" empty space as needed, either for OS-X or Windows.
When I finished the installation, the computer reports that I still have 87GB.
I would assume if you went the route above and installed all the same programs, you would end up with 43GB of free space.
I intend to use my MBA as a road warrior, mainly surfing with some light Excel/Word.  Unless you really need the Professional version, you might consider just installing the Premium version if the size of the program is much larger.
I've only been running for a few hours, but the machine seems very robust in both OS-X and Win7.  Re the size of your hard drive, you might consider picking up a small external hard drive.  I have a Western Digital Passport that is about the size of a cigarette pack and has the look of something that Apple might have made. 500GB for about $70.
I'm wondering if your 2GB of RAM might be a little on the weak side for going this route?
