HT6019 Automatic Tuning in Garageband 10.0.1
Hello, Can someone please help me.. I do a lot of vocal recording using Garageband 6.0.5 and a usb mic, when editing finished recordings i like to add some reverb and amongst other filters I use the automatic tuning slider that used to appear in the audio region box on the bottom left hand side of the screen.
Can someone please tell me where to find this feature in Garageband 10.0.1???
Im by no means an expert with Garageband, But I would think I've a good understanding of most of its uses.
Hope someone else has had the same problem and can point me in the right direction,

Vocal tuning in GarageBand on Ipad
Hey guys, new to this so bear with me. I'm trying to find out if there is a way to tune vocals in GarageBand for Ipad. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
Do you have headphones with the mic/controls on it? If you have a set for the iPhone, plug them into your iPad to see if you can record that audio. If you can, then we can look into why it can't record the other way.
If you don't have those, I'll try loading GarageBand on my first iPad and see what happens. -
[OCP exam] doubt about Automatic SQL Tuning Advisor

I am currently preparing for the OCP 11g exam.
For that, I have bought some training tools to help me prepare the exam.
But, in the chapter related to the SQL tuning advisor, some explanation really confuse me .

I check several databases/documentation, and it's seems to be always the opposite.
By default,new sql profile are tested but not implemented automatically (you have to set a parameter ACCEPT_SQL_PROFILES TO TRUE to activate this option)
But the exam is validated on oracle 11.2.0.1, and I only have 11.2.0.2/11.2.0.3 db available.
So may be oracle changed the value of the default parameter in the new releases.
Can someone confirm if I am right or not ?I would rather accept what is in the documentation:
"If a SQL profile is recommended, the database tests the new profile by executing the SQL statement both with and without the profile. If the performance improvement improves at least threefold, then the database accepts the SQL profile, but only if the ACCEPT_SQL_PROFILES task parameter is set to TRUE. Hi all,
yesterday we exported a large table with datapump. Unfortantly we received an ora-01555. As undo_mangement was set to auto and also undo_tablespace was big enough + autoextensible, I always thought, that Oracle would adjust undo_rentention as needed (longest query + 5 Min) even though rention was set to 900.
Could anyone please put some light on the subject.

Did you export a table with LOB segments? If so that is the cause. Automatic tuning of undo retention is not supported for LOBs.
Note:
Automatic tuning of undo retention is not supported for LOBs. This is because undo information for LOBs is stored in the segment itself and not in the undo tablespace. >For LOBs, the database attempts to honor the minimum undo retention period specified by UNDO_RETENTION. However, if space becomes low, unexpired LOB undo >information may be overwritten. -
Missing audio waveforms in GarageBand 10.0.1
My GarageBand 10.0.1 does not create audio waveforms when I record. I can record and play back my voice, but I don't see any audio waveforms when I record or playback. I must be missing some really elemental step, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is. I am trying to record my voice to create a podcast. I know the podcast template is no longer available, but I should be able to use "empty project" for this, correct?

thanks for your helpFirst, I think the Garageband supplied auto-tuner is a simple implementation, so it's not going to give you the same quality a more professional ( = expensive) plugin will give you.
But, it's not bad for fixing simple tuning issues.
Just record the raw take. If you want to have GB "clean up" the tuning on the track, you move the "Automatic Tuning" slider for that track to the right. If it's at 0, there is no auto-tuning applied. Progressively larger values cause more aggressive correction. You can play with the slider to find a setting that helps fix your problem without having the whole track sound artificial. Also note, this slider control applies to the whole track , not just a region. So if you only want to auto-correct parts of your recording, you'll need to create separate tracks and split up the original region, and drag those particular bad regions into the new track, and apply the auto-tune to just the regions on that track.
You don't save the altered loop, it's a real-time effect that gets applied when the track is played. -

1) complete, submit and get verified the OU authorised 11g perftune course (possible but seems a little cart before horse).
or
2) Become 11g DBA OCP. -
I have a microphone going into my computer and I am recording my voice. I see the reverb, echo and various options for changing the sound of my voice. Is there an option to auto tune my voice so that it absolutely not flat. I realize that it would help if I was a better singer but I'm just curious.

The Automatic Tuning Optimizer creates a profile of the SQL statement called a SQL Profile, consisting of auxiliary statistics specific to that statement. The query optimizer under normal mode makes estimates about cardinality, selectivity, and cost that can sometimes be off by a significant amount resulting in poor execution plans. SQL Profile addresses this problem by collecting additional information using sampling and partial execution techniques to verify and, if necessary, adjust these estimates.During SQL Profiling, the Automatic Tuning Optimizer also uses execution history information of the SQL statement to appropriately set optimizer parameter settings, such as changing the OPTIMIZER_MODE initialization parameter setting from ALL_ROWS to FIRST_ROWS for that SQL statement.
If you want to change the SQL, You can re-write the SQL and evaluate the Performance recommendations SQL tuning Advisor. -
How can i change the tempo of a track without changing pitch?
I did this before but for the life of me can't figure out how i did it. Usually when I change the tempo (BPM), the recorded tracks sound warbly. But on some of my projects, this doesn't happen even though they're "real" sound recordings.
Both projects are using Groove Fix and under "Pitch" I have "Follow tempo and pitch" checked off. Why is one project
changing tempo seamlessly while the other project is warbling along? Automatic tuning is not the issue because neither project is enabled for that.

SteveThe reason some files sound funny and others don't is because audio is handled a few different in Garageband depending on it's source (audio your recorded vs Apple Loops vs non Apple Loop pre recorded audio). Each of these have different color regions with different properties. I just found this thread that might better explain it:

This is not a question, but kind of request for discussion.
I believe that many of you heard something about automatic memory management in Oracle 11g.
The concept is that Oracle manages the target size of SGA and PGA. Yes, believe it or not, all we have to do is just to tell Oracle how much memory it can use.
But I have a big concern on this. The optimizer takes the PGA size into consideration when calculating the cost of sort-related operations.
So what would happen when Oracle dynamically changes the target size of PGA? Following is a simple demonstration of my concern.

Bug Fix Control Environment10053 trace file clearly says that Oracle recalculates the cost of the query with the change of internal pga aggregate target size. So, there is a great danger of unexpected plan change while Oracle dynamically controls the memory segments.
I believe that this is a desinged behavior, but the negative side effect is not negligible.
I just like to hear your opinions on this behavior.
Do you think that this is acceptable? Or is this another great feature that nobody wants to use like automatic tuning advisor?

yep, I got it! pat1=83886080, pat2=58720256Oracle continued being bounced between shared pool and buffer cache size, and about 1200th execution Oracle suddenly stole some memory from PGA target area to increase db cache size.
(I'm still in dark age on this automatic memory target management of 11g. More research in need!)
I think that this is very clear and natural behavior. I just want to point out that this would result in unwanted catastrophe under special cases, especially with some logic holes and bugs.

While investigating a severe performance issue of buffer busy waits and latch free - cache buffer chains, I noticed that for a particular 1-row table with the majority of the BBW, there was a large number of cloned blocks. (same latch, many entries w/ touch count=1). I also noticed that fairly quickly after the wait contention subsided, that the number of tcn=1 blocks were basically gone.
Is there a function/command/etc. that I could force/"request" Oracle cleanup up any cloned blocks no longer being used?metalink document suggests Bug 5387030: AUTOMATIC TUNING OF UNDO_RETENTION CAUSING SPACE PROBLEMS, as per the documents there are 3 workarounds & one of them I opted for was Set the autoextend and maxsize attribute of each datafile in the undo ts so it is autoextensible and its maxsize is equal to its current size so the undo tablespace now has the autoextend attribute but does not autoend:
alter database datafile '<datafile_flename>' autoextend on maxsize <current_size>;
With this setting, v$undostat.tuned_undoretention is not calculated based on a percentage of the undo tablespace size, instead v$undostat.tuned_undoretention is set to the maximum of: maxquerylen secs + 300 undo_retention specified in init.ora
As I monitor the undo tablespace, the same query now returns

If these automatically tuned memory pools are set to non-zero values, then those values are used as minimum levels by Automatic Shared Memory Management. You would set minimum values if an application component needs a minimum amount of memory to function properly.
The following pools are manually sized components and are not affected by Automatic Shared Memory Management:
Log buffer
Other buffer caches, such as KEEP, RECYCLE, and other block sizes
Fixed SGA and other internal allocations
The memory allocated to these pools is deducted from the total available for SGA_TARGET when Automatic Shared Memory Management computes the values of the automatically tuned memory pools.
Under the area that illustrates what is not affected by ASMM it has "Fixed SGA and other internal allocations".
