HTML in LOV

Hi,
We are upgrading applications from HTMLDB 2.0 to APEX 4 . In some LOV we are using & nbsp ; to add some spaces in the list to make it easier to read.
But in the selectlist the items escapes the HTML and instead of a space like before we now see the HTML code & nbsp ; displayed.
Is there a way to Not Escape the HTML in a seleclist or add more than one space ?

APEX strips HTML in LOV

Hi,
I have a hierarchical query to generate LOV values with a delimiter separating each level in the hierarchy. I use a regular expression to surround the last value with '<b>value</b>'.
However, when I test the results, either the opening bold tag or both the opening and closed bold tags are stripped from the LOV (depending on what's between them).
Does anyone know how to tell APEX to not strip the tags? I looked at earlier posts and saw 'Strip HTML ' as a setting but could not find that in the scope of an LOV.
Here is a simple example of the LOV query that will be affected by this:
select '<b>TEST</b>' display_value, dummy return_value from dual;

Hi Corey,
There's no simple way to highlight just a portion of the text unless you use uppercase or asterisks or something else that stands out. Instead of using &nbsp;, you should use character 160 - in your sql statement, where you want this to appear, hold down the alt key, then type 0160 on the number keypad and then release the alt key. On screen this is a space but for html, this is just a character like any other.
One other method, which I seen used somewhere in this forum, is to insert a separator option and then disable that using the following in the region footer:

I'm not sure how easy it would be for you to do this in your sql statement?
Otherwise, as Tyler suggests, try things in static files - this is how I tend to work out this sort of thing. If you can get something to work there, it should be doable in Apex.

HTML DB - LOV is empty at the start of the application

Hi everybody,
Is it usual when we open our application (the first one with HTML-DB) that our lov are empty. Is it a problem with my application ? Is a problem with oracle database ? (I know they stop the Database for backup but the restart is made at 7 o'clock. But, at 7:50 we opened the application and the lov's was empty.)
I take a look on this forum and I don't see something about it.

I'm a french speaker, I use the french version 1.6. I have to translate in english everything about the html-db product. I have no documentation in french about HTML_DB. It's our first application with HTML-DB and a oracle product. Finally, I have "some" problems to write in English. I do my best. But, I love working with HTML-DB.
By Lov, I say list of values (a select list) in our application.

How to default values in LOV

Hi,
I have created a page in which I have two different LOVs. My requirement is to default some value in the First LOV i.e. "ALL"
and the second LOV which is dependent on the first LOV will gets populated with the values based on the first one on the page load itself.
Both the LOVs have "autoSubmit" and "partialTriggers"realtion between them.
The problem I am facing is that I am able to set some default value to the first LOV with value as "ALL" by using "setSubmiitedValue" on LOV from backing bean on the page load but the second LOV popup (dependent LOV) is coming blank on page load.
But if i select same value "ALL" form the first LOV popup after page load then second LOV popup gets populated with values based on first LOV
Please provide some urgent help that how to default any LOV with some value and based on that second LOV gets populated on the page load itself.

I love your enthusiam Hey, I got a great tip from a guy about how to put movies on a site and I really liked the idea so I'll pass it on to you since I see you will likely have lots of them to display.
He suggested I use the blog template and keep each movie on a new entry. This way you get a running log of everything you place there, people can browse them and you won't have 10 movies all on one page Worked really slick!

LOV with YEARS

I want to display in any way (LOV or DATE PICKER) on a numeric field which should have years from 1950 to 2006.
Is there any predefined way (PICKER) or have to make a function and put result in LOV?

One option is to create a table with the years in it combined with a scheduled DBMS_JOB to add another year record at the appropriate time.
Another thing to look into s the use of the TABLE function. I cannot get HTML DB to accept the SELECT statement for the LOV.

Pivot tables with column selector - navigation?

Hi
Just hoping someone can help. We maintain a large number of dashboards and would like to move to streamlining them by combining reports using column selectors. However when we have pivot table reports where the column selector on the rows are selectable on up to 5 different fields, but the pivot columns are split by one specific field, the navigation reports won't filter on the column headings. It will filter on the rows which can change between the various column selector options.
For example we have:
5 columns (5 types of application)
The rows are either: advisor, status of app, month received, age of app, world region etc...
The fact is # of apps
This navigates to a list report which should prompt off the various fields in the column selector and the pivot table column headings (all are prompted) but it just ignores the type of application field and only prompts off the rows.
Is it possible to have it prompting off both like a normal pivot table does?

Best Spec for Graphic Designer

I am about to purchase a Mac Pro and have read for hours on the best setup for myself. So, thought I'd throw the question to anyone on here with valid and decent advice.
I am a graphic designer for print and I don't do any rendering or video work. I run Adobe CS4, using InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop the most. I have plenty of large files, with some over 1gb in size and loads well over 250mb each.
The questions I have are - do I go for a quad core or 8 core - both with loads of RAM (12 or 16bg). Also, I am wondering whether to have a SSD drive in bay one to put the applications on and then 2 or 3 normal drives for backup etc.
I think I need a decent amount of RAM - but am not sure whether Adobe software would benefit from more than 4 cores. I have read that the more cores you have - the more RAM is needed as RAM gets allocated to each core.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

I love 10K VelociRaptor as well as WD in general and the 1.5TB Green is fast as my old WD Blacks were. I can point to SSD reviews, comments etc but I have not "jumped in" yet. I have a 50K photo library though that I would love to put on one, and system on another, yes. Just not in the cards right now, for me and my ahem, wallet.

Is Firefox available on MacBook Air?

I recently bought an iPad as I thought I'd be able to use it for my university studies. We already have a desktop Mac. I have discovered that I can't get Firefox on the iPad, and my uni studies require Firefox (I understand so that pop-ups and flash are allowed). I am thinking of selling the iPad and buying a MacBook Air but I want to first make sure that I can get Firefox on the MacBook Air. Please let me know whether this is possible.

Toshiba Laptop L675-S1707

I've went through different threads about the loud cooling fans and i have came to the conclusion that it needs BIO update.... or Patch
Now for my Laptop L675 which isn't exactly that old... BIOS updates have stopped at 1.7... Now I am going through Laptops and there have been BIOS patched for this very reason EVEB laptop L675-S1708 Has a Bios Patch 1.8, and others have Bios patch of 2.0 For The Fix
My Laptop L675-S1707 has no BIOS patch for the fix.. Is there anyway I can get this patched? I'm going crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE SOMEONE who can help me me Patch past 1.7 PLEASE HELP ME

No sound through USB to amplifier - Nobody seems to be able to diagnose

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 PSAGCA-09U01N running Windows Vista and can not connect to my Yamaha Amplifier via HDMI. I have tried many ways to solve this problem and no-one seems able to assist, am about to give up as I'm not sure the Toshiba is up for the challenge ? I have tried selecting a different output in the playback devices list but this doesn't seem to work, I am able to send video via a cable but not audio, however if I connect the cable direct to the TV I am able to send both video and audio after manually selecting the HDMI cable as the audio output. I have also checked the input on the amp to ensure that it is not faulty and discovered that other devices can be plugged in with the same lead and the same input and both video and audio are available. Please any help or even the right person to ask would be greatly appreciated.

Hi If I'm reading your post correctly, you are able to connect your PC to your TV with a HDMI cable and you get sound and vidio; however you don't get both when connecting to your Yamaha Amplifier. Have you asked the Yamaha people for assistance?? When you say other devices work, can you be more specifc. Maybe others here have a better answer.

Hi! Do you not know that W7 gives you the option to create a system repair disc; that you can use to boot your PC when you encounter a problem?? Do you not know that Toshiba gives you the option to create recovery discs or restore from a hidden partition?? Do you not know that W7 gives you the option to back up your data and create a back up image of your OS?? How much more do you need to have, to keep your computer running?? I have only had a computer for 5 or 6 years and I know these things. I love sharing what I have learned and passing it forward, but there are times when I shake my head and wonder if some of you really should have a computer. I'm sure the great staff here will give me a verbal scolding and I will deserve it and except it. I will blame this message on my medication and Whiskey not mixing. Hi Bill ! Thanks for your reply. I have a 1TB seagate for storing my images. Great advice. The problem is no one listens. Then they come on here with a corrupt OS and don't want to go back to factory because they have important data on their PC.
PS Have you ever heard of Hirens Boot CD. I have the CD but so far I haven't had the occasion to use it. Not sure what the forum thinks about suggesting it as a tool. Check it out when you get time.

New to Java -- Need to know if something is possible

We have an application in which some complex calculations are being done in MatLab. In order to speed things up, we are converting it to C/C++. But there is also a GUI in the MatLab code. This is all to run on Windows.
We will eventually (2 - 4 months from now, after it has been successfully converted and running) need to also port it to Linux. I am thinking that I would like to write the GUI portion in Java, so that it can be easily transferred from Windows to Linux.
There is also an "embedded" portion running in C/C++. This must remain in C++ in because it is a real-time application where literally each microsecond will matter, Java will be too slow. In addition, some of the calculations will run on a parallel processing board, and the COTS libaries that support running on the card are C/C++ libraries.
So, what I want is, to make a Java GUI that I can move from Windows to Linux, and in this GUI, each of the callbacks will then do nothing but call a C++ routine. I need the C++ routine to run completely independent of the Java Virtual Machine, to preserve the speed of the C++ library.
My questions:
If I write the GUI in Java, and have separate libraries/fucntions in C/C++ that are compiled for both Windows and Linux, can the Java GUI call these, and will they run as fast as they would in a normal C++ app? Or will it be slowed down by the JVM, and run at "interpreter speed"?
How do you call the C++ code from inside a Java interpreter? Do we compile it all in a dll, and the dll is called from Java? Do we make a C++ library, and that can be called from the Java GUI? Or is there something else. This must have been done many times, does anybody have any suggestions or experience to get me going. I think I can glom together a simple Java GUI ( I produced some Java programs several years ago), and I can get the C++ libraries going, it is connecting them that I could use some guidance.
