  • Possible to parse HTML in TextArea?

    Hi All,
    I'd like to know whether it is possible to display HTML code in textarea when we use webui page. We have a table column with HTML code in it(something like <font style="...">, <span style="background:xxxx">, <a href=""> and so on), and we want to parse them as normal html page does in our overview page. I tried to define the attribute node as textarea in the GET_P method but it displays all HTML source code without any conversion, that's not I want. As I'm new to WEBUI, it's really tough for me. But, as the saying said, Nothing is impossible, so I'm sure it has solutions. Could you please help me figure out?
    Thank you very much!
    Jeff

    first of all you need to get the remote resource ( html file) as an input stream
    URL url = new URL("http://forums.sun.com");
    HttpURLConnection con = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
    // get the InputStream = con.getInputStream()
    second find a parser to parse the inputStream and give you call back with the startElement, endElement, etc..
    implement you interest in what call back method you want. Just search for an html parser and there will be an example associated to it

  • HTML input textarea causes problems

    Hi,
    I have a textarea on my form where the user will have the opportunity to enter a paragraph of text, where he can use HTML tags and whatever. But as soon as I enter html tags into this area, the formfileds coming after this textarea cannot sent their parameters to the next procedure. No html tags, everything works fine.
    Any idea?

    Hi Nilay,
    I don't think the textarea has anything to do with your problem. I just tried out and it works fine for me (at least with the italic and strong tags). Could you provide some more information on your case? (HTML source, the way you process the parameters, etc.)

  • Dbservlet and html in textarea

    Hi,
    I have followin problem with a dbservlet, in a db field I store html code (which is populated via a cgi script). When I create a dbservlet to manage this field, the html is perfectly displayed in browse mode, but when I edit the html (in a TextArea) some of the html is translated (e.g. some cahracter such as < > etc. becomes the equivalent &xxx
    code). The same info (so the &xxx code) is stored in the DB and the html code becomes corrupted !
    HOW CAN THIS BE PREVENTED?
    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    P.S.: The problem I got in the past with JDEV 2.0 (running 2 dbservlet's under apache) is solved with JDEV 3.0.
    Kind regards,
    Stefaan

    This is a common problem , the only way to get around it is to un-escape the characters when your update is submitted. Netscape also has some problems in trying to display HTML characters inside of a textarea, it doesn't render them properly.

  • HTML Textarea removing Carriage Returns

    Hi,
    Hoping someone can assist, I am retrieving some data from a table that currently consists of carriage returns but when I try and retrieve this information via Ajax and pass it back into the HTML page textarea field within ApEx, the value returned is one continuous string.
    All my carriage returns are removed.
    Can someone please assist, possibly using a javascript solution or some other type as to how I can preserve the carriage returns.
    Thanks.
    Tony.

    Hi Tony,
    I suspect the problem is simply due to the way HTML handles line breaks, which is to say, it generally ignores them. For example, this html:
    <p>To be or not to be, that is the question;
    Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
    The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
    Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
    And by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep;
    No more; </p>would be displayed in a browser as:
    To be or not to be, that is the question; Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep; No more;
    One way to get around this is to wrap the string in {font:Courier}&lt;pre&gt;&lt;/pre&gt;{font} tags; another would be to replace the carriage returns with {font:Courier}&lt;br&gt;{font}
    Hope this helps.

  • How can an applet retrieve the values of a HTML form shown in a JEditorPane

    Hi,
    I'm doing an applet that contains a JTree and a JEditorPane
    among other components. Each node of the JTree represents some
    information that is stored in a database, and whenever a JTree
    node is selected, this information is recovered and shown in
    the JEditorPane with a html form. To make the html form,
    the applet calls a servlet, which retrieves the information of
    the node selected from the database. This information is stored
    like a XML string, and using XSLT, the servlet sends the html
    form to the applet, which shows it in the JEditorPane.
    My problem is that I don't know how I can recover new values
    that a user of the application can introduce in the input fields
    of the html form. I need to recover this new values and send them
    to another servlet which store the information in the database.
    If someone could help me I'd be very pleased.

  • Problems creating a sticky footer

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a website in Dreamweaver using a template that I purchased but I am having problems fixing a footer to the bottom of the page,
    At the moment the content footer that I have created (which is a table) changes positon from page to page depending on the content.
    The template comes with 2 x CSS style sheets  and 1 x JS coded page which I know I need to amend in order for the footer to remain fixed to the bottom of each page.
    The trouble is my CSS and JS are not up to much. I have inserted the code from the HTML, CSS & JS below.

    A sticky footer is position:fixed and therefor always visible in the bottom of browser viewports -- even when users scroll up or down the page.

  • Literal too long when 4000 chars

    I get an error that literal too long when trying to insert a record to a clob or varchar2 field when the string is over 4000 chars.
    How to resolve this problem. I'd like to be able to treat this insert the same as all other inserts rather than make a special case out of it so no special processing would be needed.
    The application reads from an html form textarea and inserts the value of the text area along with the other fields of the form to a database.

    Hi,
    The maximum length of VARCHAR2 data is 4000 bytes.
    You can't store more than 4000 bytes in varchar2 column.
    CLOB can store upto 4GB of data.
    You can check the LOB Datatype sample for details on how to insert data into CLOB.
    The sample is located at
    [url http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/advanced/LOBSample/LOBSample.java.html] LOB Datatype source
    Check the loadSamples method which shows how to insert data into CLOB using empty_clob() method.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using rich text editor (RTE) for custom applications

    Our users enter texts on two places:
    1) In Oracle Portal in text-items using the Rich Text Editor.
    2) In text-fields in a custom application using html-tags <textarea>blabla</textarea>. For formatting the users currently have to type in html-tags themselves. Now we want to provide them an html-editor.
    We would prefer to use the Rich Text Editor also for the custom application. However, that is integrated in Portal and the java-scripts are not easy to follow.
    Have you tried something similar? So, did you use the Rich Text Editor for your own application? If yes, how?
    If not, a very good alternative would be the qwebeditor (see http://www.qwebeditor.com). Did anybody replace the standard Portal rich text editor with the qwebeditor? In the Portal guides there are instructions about replacing the Portal rich text editor by another editor, but it is not clear if this will also work with the qwebeditor.
    Thanks for your respons !
    Best regards, Jan Willem Vermeer

    Hi Jan,
    I have configured FCKeditor in a few clients, and the process it's pretty straight forward, you can use the steps in the document (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/pdf/cm_rte_1014_features.pdf) .
    Basically you download FCKeditor and put it in your apache server (you can put it unde rthe htdocs folder) after that, all you need to do is modify $ORACLE_HOME/portal/images/webword/buildUIHTML.html to reference the FCKeditor JS and CSS, and you can do the same type of reference for your custom apps.

  • Dynamic JNLP causes exception on 1st run after java install

    I have a dynamic JNLP file (php) which runs my software. It works just fine, except for the 1st time it is run after a user has installed Java.
    I get the exception; "The following field was missing from the jnlp file: <jnlp>". When I look at the jnlp code in JWS in the "Launch File" tab of the error message, I see that the JNLP is not there - but the page the user would see if he was not logged into the system (as if JWS has cached the file or something).
    If I close it down, press F5 to refresh, and run it again everything works fine.
    I'm running the dyanmic.jnlp?dummy=randomnumber943934 to prevent caching. In addition, these headers are sent: (php code)
    header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT");
    // HTTP/1.1
    header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate");
    header("Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0", false);
    // HTTP/1.0
    header("Pragma: no-cache");.. so nothing should be cached. But I'm not sure that's where the problem is - cause it only happens the first time after a java install.
    Any clues?

    I think you're dynamicallt created jnlp is invalid in someway; I can use the following without any problems:
    <?php
    header("Content-type: application/x-java-jnlp-file");
    echo "<?xml version=\"1.0\" ?>\n";
    $codebase = trim(stripslashes(urldecode($_REQUEST["codebase"])));
    $href = trim(stripslashes(urldecode($_REQUEST["href"])));
    echo "<jnlp spec=\"1.0+\" codebase=\"$codebase\" href=\"$href\">\n";
    ?>
    </jnlp>
    you should try and test the output of your generated code, something like this should work:
    test.php
    <html>
    <body>
    <textarea rows=20 cols=70>
    <?php
    include 'mydynamicscript.php';
    ?>
    </textarea>
    </body>
    </html>
    The first time a jnlp is called it is downloaded into the browser cache and javaws.exe is executed on it from that location, this in turn downloads the jnlp again from the passed codebase & href attributes into the jws cache. Subsequent calls the jnlp are extracted from the copy in the webstart cache, and often downloaded from the codebase & href attributes when it detects possible changes. In your case these jnlp files seem to differ.

  • How do I change the compatibility view so that my words are not running off the page?

    I do data entry and in the system I am working on the words are running off the page. In internet explorer there is a little broken page on the tool bar that lets you change the compatibility and I am not finding anything like that with firefox. Please advise how I can change the setting so that the words will wrap correctly.

    As far as I know, Firefox doesn't have a similar compatibility feature.
    I assume this system is not accessible to forum volunteers, so I'm going to ask you to do a little sleuthing. I assume you are entering text in a multi-line textbox (an HTML &lt;textarea> control). Could you do the following:
    * Have your text entry form open in one tab, and a reply to this thread in another tab.
    * Right-click in the control that doesn't wrap and choose Inspect Element. A small pane should open with part of the HTML highlighted in blue.
    * Right-click the highlighted &lt;textarea> tag and choose Copy Outer HTML.
    * In your reply tab, paste the HTML, and remove the leading &lt; character to avoid messing up your post. This will show any legacy settings on the tag that might be affecting how it wraps.
    Here's an example using this very box:
    textarea style="width: 567px; height: 616px;" rows="10" name="content" required="required" placeholder="Enter your reply here." cols="40" id="id_content"></textarea>
    If it's not a textarea, then that would be useful to know as well.
    * Back in your form, you may or may not have a pane to the right that shows various style rules. If not, click the Style button at the lower right to open it. Look for any rules with the '''white-space''' property (the properties normally appear in colored text). If you find one, right-click and choose Copy declaration line. Switch back to this tab and paste the rule.
    With that information, hopefully we can find a workaround.

  • Text format problem

    hi all ! I have this problem I need to save a string like this
    DATE NAME
    NOTE
    NOTE 2
    The thing is that i have to keep this format, save it in a DB and save it.
    This is how I have it now. But I cant make it work. I know how ot would be in C but not in java.
    String nota1=(fecha+" "+fisio+" "
    salida"" +
    +"--------------------------" +
    ""+
    ""+entrada);
    Thanks!

    Then the first method I used should be close, though i missed it a little:
        String newLine = System.getProperty("line.separator");
         String nota1= fecha+" "+fisio+newLine+newLine+salida
            +newLine+newLine+"--------------------------" +newLine+newLine+entrada;An example I wrote up was like this:
    <html>
      <body>
        <%
        String fecha="Date"; String fisio="Name";
        String salida="Note1"; String entrada="Note2";
        String newLine = System.getProperty("line.separator");
         String nota1= fecha+" "+fisio+newLine+newLine+salida
            +newLine+newLine+"--------------------------" +newLine+newLine+entrada;
        %>
        <textarea cols="76" rows="8"><%=nota1%></textarea>
      </body>
    </html>The HTML output was like this:
    <html>
      <body>
        <textarea cols="76" rows="8">Date Name
    Note1
    Note2</textarea>
      </body>
    </html>

  • Problem with HTML in a read only textarea item

    I'm working on a messaging system for our site. For the body of the message, we use a standard textarea item. However, if we come to the messaging page from a certain page in our system, then we pre-load the textarea item, and make it read only. The only problem with this is that there are HTML tags in the body that we try to pre-load. This is causing problems because they aren't being interpreted as tags, but are being displayed as text. If I make the textarea editable, then everything looks fine, it's just when I set the area to be read only that it doesn't work. Any thoughts on how to fix this? Thanks!

    Not always. A user is allowed to edit that area in most circumstances except for when the user arrives at the page coming from 1 page in particular. In this case, then the field is read-only. At all other times though, it is editable.
    As a workaround, whenever I know I'm coming from this page, I set a variable, and if the variable is set, then I use a Display Only item and then hide the Textarea. If the variable is not set, then I hide my Display Only item and show the Textarea. Not very elegant, but it works.

  • Textarea with HTML editor is not working

    Hi all,
    This is producing me a real headache.
    I created the simplest application in the world with one Textarea with HTML editor, and the editor control does not show the usual tool bar for fonts, color, alignment, etc. Just a ordinary textarea.
    Moreover, this was working before... I moved to another location in my work (me, not the server). Yes, I thought about the Internet Explorer, but Firefox has the same issue.
    So any idea I can try to make this work?
    I have another applications already in production with the same issue.
    Need help!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Lukas.

    Lukas,
    I would go and integrate FCKEDITOR (http://www.fckeditor.net/ ) into your application.
    Here are instructions on how to achieve this (sorry but only in German):
    http://www.oracle.com/global/de/community/tipps/einbinden_fckeditor/index.html
    It basically means:
    1) copying the files from fckeditor under the /images directory
    (you can use the instructions here: http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/03/where-are-images-of-application.html)
    2) creating two shortcuts INCLUDE_EDITOR_SCRIPTS and EDITOR
    3) placing the shortcut INCLUDE_EDITOR_SCRIPTS into the page html header and
    4) placing the shortcut EDITOR into the post element text of your plain textarea element
    That's it.
    BTW, FCKEDITOR has been included in Apex 3.0 as a standard item type.
    Regards,
    ~Dietmar.
