Hue saturation changing too many colors

I have some yellow flowers that I want to change the colors of.
I am also noticing that whether I choose Master or Yellows from the drop down in a hue/saturation adjustment layer, it is still changing the color of some other items in the background that I do not want to change.
I tried using the history brush over those rocks, and items in the background, though it does not seem to do anything.
1. Why is it doing this?
2. What is the best way to have it not change the items in the background?

You could also select the stuff you want to change before running the Hue/Saturation function.
c.pfaffenbichler's advice is good regarding adjusting the color range.

    I want to convert a jpeg file to gif file (no need to animation's one ) using java . I have found a source program (GIFEncoder ) that convert the image to the gif file . But when i using the class to convert a jpeg to gif, a ' too many color exception ' has return . It is not diffcult to think why the exception happen , it is because the jpeg is always represent in true color (24 bits) , while the gif can only display 256 color (8 bits) . so , i have no ideas that how to create a 256 color jpeg using java ? because the JPEGEncoder package provided by sun will create a 24 bits jpeg file .The JAI can't create the gif files as the animation features of gif files .
    So anyone can teach me the ways of how to create a 256 color jpeg using java , or a suggestions that create gif file using java ?

    Here's how I do it (it's not based on a color theory or anything, it's just the first thing that came to my mind when I needed this functionality in one of my applications):
    I set up a table with the 256 most frequently appearing colors in the image. Sometimes, these colors are too similar, so I use a little algorithm that makes sure that the colors are satisfyingly different. The algorithm takes a parameter (the color dispersion parameter) and works according to the following pseudocode:
    for all colors in the palette do:
    differential = 0;
    differential = abs(oldColor.red - newColor.red) + abs(oldColor.green - newColor.green) + abs(oldColor.blue - newColor.blue);
    if differential < color dispersion parameter
    don't add new color
    If the new color passes this test, it is added to the palette. Depending on your needs, you may want to let the user select the degree of "color dispersion". If the palette doesn't contain 256 colors after this first pass, I decrease the color dispersion parameter by one and loop over the colors again (keeping the palette from the first pass of course). When this parameter reaches 0, there must be 256 colors in the palette, or the picture wouldn't need to be converted.
    Then make an IndexColorModel from your palette data and set up a MemoryImageSource. From this you can create your image and do whatever you want with it.

  • Acme GiFEncoder: java.io.IOException: too many colors for a GIF

    I have been using the Acme GifEncoder to save images as gifs. I have been using this quite successfully until today. For some reason it now gives an error when I try to use this in some circumstances. The exception is:
    java.io.IOException: too many colors for a GIF
    I am not sure why it will work in some situations and not others. If anyone can give any insight on this problem then I would appreciate it.

    Thanks for the reference to the quantizer. I will try it out and see if it works.
    That is going to lead me on to have a bit of a rant about GifEncoders. I realise that gifs are limited to 256 colours. It is ridiculous that a GifEncoder would not limit the number of colours for you. If you have an image in another format such as jpg that does not have a limit the number of colours, the encoder is not able to convert it into gifs unless it has the number of colours reduced. As far as can tell this should be an essential function of the encoder, unless anyone can tell me differently.
    Also if anyone can advise me on the Acme JpegEncoder I would appreciate it. It does not seem to work in any shape or form. I am not trying to do anything in particular with it now, so I have no code to show. I did try to use it before and it did not seem to work, so if anyone knows how to get it to work that would be great.

  • Apply hue/saturation on rectangle fill color

    I use photoshop as a vector tool and need to know if adjustment can be apply to vector shape seelction.
    I watch a youtube tutorial where hue/saturation can be apply to selected area using lasso tool and save selection in the channels tab . I try to do the same thing on a rectangle shape  but using warp tool for selection . But when select menu-> Image-> Adjustment -> ( only variation is enable /selectable) . I can't select hue /saturation menu item ?
    Is there a way to apply hue /saturation in this case in photoshop CS6 ? .
    Can we apply effects ( adjustment setting ) in all shape ( vector)  in photoshop CS6 ?

  • Hue/saturation changing on loading in LR1

    I've got currently 3 collections defined in LR. One collection of JPG files has got a strange habit: when opening a picture in Develop mode, the first view, while still loading, is fine (and the same as in Photoshop; I've only imported the pictures, I haven't made any edits to the pictures in any program). However, when loading is completed for that picture, saturation has diminished significantly, making the picture dull. In the preview screen in the left panel colours are ok, it only happens on loading the picture.
    Making it even stranger: the history panel does not show any editing, so undoing is not possible.
    What's going wrong, or have I changed a preference or setting or so resulting in this behaviour - and even not showing in the history?

    Thanks for the response. Will check the setting tonight.
    I just started last week with LR, but imported my collections all in the same way. So, I would expect the same behaviour. But, I will check, who knows what I changed in between two imports.
    Strange thing however is that, assuming I'm not rendering previews, the look of the pictures is quite bad after it has loaded. And typically as well: when asking LR to auto set WB and exposure etc for all pictures in this collection, most come out even worse. For the other two collections LR did a good job (one JPG, one RAW collection).

  • Too Many Color Correctors

    I added the color corrector effect to a piece of video on my timeline. I wanted to compare that to another color idea I had, so I added another color corrector effect on the same piece of video. Now, when I click on the video clip, color corrector and "color corrector - 2" are in the filter tabs. How can I eliminate "Color corrector - 2"? If I add another color corrector, it's called "Color Corrector - 3". Now that I decided which color I like, I want to clean up my tabs.

    Thanks, Tom. To be more specific for future users, just go into the Filters tab. Right click on the filter you want to remove and click "cut". This will remove the filter.

  • Replace color and hue/saturation?

    Is there any real difference with using hue/saturation and replace color to change the color of an item OR is it just two ways to do the same thing?

    If you did a hue/saturation change then both the blue and yellow would change according to the sliders that you use.
    That would apply if you edit the Hue/Saturation’s Master (alt-2), but if the Colors are sufficiently different one could influence only the Reds (alt-3), Yellows {alt-4) etc.
    And that’s naturally best done with an Adjustment Layer.

  • Using Hue Saturation to change color of shirt not working

    In CS5, I tried to make a selection of a white shirt and used Image > Adjustment >Hue Saturation, though when I drag the Hue slider, nothing happens, only a little bit of pixels of color change. Why is this.

    1. So this is simply the wrong tool to change the color?
    Are you familiar with the geometric representation for the HSB- or LCH-model?
    The straight line connecting white and black is the axis that’s totally neutral, so changing the Hue or the Saturation/Chroma has no effect on points located thereon.
    You can still use Hue/Saturation to colorize neutrals by checking the Colorize-box.
    Or create a Solid Color Layer of the intended color and set it to Blend Mode Color and use a Curves Adjustment Layer to adjust the Luminance below that.

  • Changing hue/saturation

    I make a selection and choose Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and it seems the colors are completely off when I have the colorize option selected.
    Should this checkbox not be selected when changing colors this way? I know that this could also be done with an adjustment layer, I am just curious why the colors seem off.

    If your goal is to keep a full range of colors, but skew them on the spectrum, you'll want to make sure Colorize is turned off.
    Colorize works by taking the average value (pure grey) and setting it to be equivalent to your new color (in the Hue/Saturation sliders). This then gets tinted and shaded (using the whites and blacks in your document). Essentially, Colorize fakes a dutotone image (the only colors will be the one you select + black).

  • Mplayer too dark, Equalizer(Contrast,Brightness,Hue,Saturation)

    After some research, I found a solution, for both problems.

    Open a Filemanager as root, and go to /etc/mplayer and create a file called mplayer.conf, and paste this code inside.

    Notice I changed the 3rd default value in eq2 from 0.0 to 0.1, this will appear as 10 in the equalizer.
    This 10% increase in brightness gave me a brightness, similar to watching the same video in VLC.

    since front row just hijacks dvd player and such you should be able to change it in dvd player's preferances. are the tv shows from the itunes music store?

  • Contrast and color saturation way too heavy when viewing the movie in FCP:

    When I view the clips on the same Mac they look neutral (outside of FCP). But when I drag them into FCP (6.06) it looks like my film already has been color graded (sort of). Too much saturation and too much contrast (the blacks are pretty solid). When I export the film it looks like it did in the beginning (neutral and low contrast). How may I adjust the preview contrast and saturation in FCP to show it more neutral (or like the clips are suppose to be)?

    Because it isn't designed to be used in such a manner. You can't do this with ANY EDITING APP. Not Avid, not FCP, not Premiere, not Vegas, not Media 100. NONE of them do this. They are designed to just show you what you are working with. If you want proper monitoring, you need the proper gear.
    And why is there a mismatch of gamma in the first place?
    I can only guess. And my guess is so that you can see into the shadows more, in case there is something in the frame that shouldn't be. A person, a light, C-stand...whathaveyou.
    Why could they not just have the same gamma for the finder QT and FCP?
    Again, I can only guess. I am not a programmer. Because they wanted to make sure that you can see the image on ANY computer monitor, because there are so many different types of computer monitors, settings for those monitors. Look at a computer store and all those monitors...they all look different. But again, that is only a guess.
    But would a calibrated monitor like Eizo SX2761 which is mostly for Photoshop working (stills) be good enough in a combo with for example MATROX MXO2 MINI?.
    I doubt it. It is a COMPUTER monitor, and balancing for photo work and video work is VERY differnt. If you use the Mini, you need an HDTV at least, and a GOOD one. Or the regular MXO.
    Or do I also have to buy a tv / HDTV?
    Yes...you'd need a VIDEO monitoring device, like a TV.

    Changing your Apple ID to your current, working email address will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address.
