Huge combo boxes in JFileChooser/JList text truncated in 1.4.0

Hi there,
We have an application which works fine on Sun JRE 1.3.1
Recently we started supporting Sun JRE 1.4.0
But we have some problems with GUI in Sun JRE 1.4.0
In the JFileChooser dialog the combo box for Folder name
and file filter is atleast twice as big as normal in when
using JRE 1.4.0. This seems to be happening only in some particular
machines. And if we run the application using JRE 1.3.1, on the machine which has problems with JRE 1.4.0, everything works fine.
Also we use a JList with a custom cell rendered in the application.
the cell renderer returns a JLabel component with "monospaced" font set in it. In some machines (same machines which has the JFileChooser problem) the upper half of each item in the JList is truncated. This also works fine is we use JRE 1.3.1 on the same machine.
Please help me if you have any info on these issues.
Any pointers to related issues on this forum or bug database is highly appreciated.
Thanks in adance

Hehe. Give it more time. Could you explain more about what you mean?
You have a form with the select combo box in it. The user chooses a value from the combo box. Then submits the form. You want to put the value of the option inside the sql statement right? Not the words displayed by the option, but the item you put in the value section right?
If so, its rather easy:
query = "INSERT INTO Table VALUE( comboType, \""+request.getParameter( "text")+"\"); The \" might not be necessary depending on how the value is stored.

  • How do you use the combo box to populate a text box

    I am a beginner when it comes to Java Script.  I have viewed many different discussions, look at a lot of "help" articles dealing with Acrobat 9 and Java Script, but only to be left confused and dazed.  I am hoping someone will be able to tell me how to write a script that will populate a text box that is on my form with the combo box selection's export value...
    Thanks

    If you want the text box to be read-only, just set it up with the following custom calculate script:
    // Set this field value to the value of the combo box
    event.value = getField("combo1").value;
    but replace "combo1" with the actual name of the combo box field.
    If you want something else, post again with more information.

  • Problem with Combo Box in a Dialog Box

    I have a dialog box that includes a combo box.
    For some reason the combo box shows up under the first text box. In other words, the combo box is not separate from the first field. It has the following:
    ComboBox with Sequence showing, then Enter Identifyer
    Textbox URL
    Textbox Enter Resource 1
    Textbox Enter Resource 2
    Textbox Enter Resource 3
    Textbox Enter Resource 4
    Textbox Enter Resource 5
    It's putting the combo box in the first text field...it should be
    ComboBox with Sequence showing
    URL Textbox
    Enter Identifyer Textbox
    Enter Resource 1 Textbox
    Enter Resource 2 Textbox...

    Seems the problem is in your DialogLayout2 class which must be in package dl. I tried a grid layout and got something that looks like what you described. I laid out pp with a gridbag layout.

  • Question about using the Combo Box feature!

    I have a form that I am trying to create for our company that will allow our field nurses to select what they need and print it more effieciently.  The problem is that some of the selections are too long and I can't get the Combo box feature to allow them to be printed on multiple lines:
    I have spoken to my supervisor about redoing the form to look like this:
    But in order for us to meet state guidelines it has to be formated like the first because that is the state form given to us.  I want to be able to either:
    A) have the combo box multi-line auto text sized so it will get all the information into each box
    OR
    B) create text boxes at the end of the form that auto enteries the selected data from the second picture into boxes that look like the first picture.
    Is there any way to do either of these?

    A) No.
    B) Yes. Create a text box with the following code as the custom calculation
    script (assuming the name of the combo is "Combo Box1"):
    event.value = this.getField("Combo Box1").value;
    That way, when the user makes a selection in the combo-box, the value will
    also appear in the text box. Just make sure to make the text box read-only
    and set the combo-box to apply the selection immediately.

  • Combo Box Selected Data

    I have a combo box called class_cb, I am trying to use the
    combo box in a maths formula.
    I am trying to set that if the active selected combo box data
    = 1 then a text area = given number, if data = 2 then ....
    I can get flash to recognise the change i just can't seem to
    get the statement
    "if selected combo box data = 1 then text area = 5" to work,
    the text area defaults to the first value and changing the
    combo box item and pressing calculate doesn't change the
    value of the text box.
    Any help would be appreciated, thanks

  • Flash ph mysql combo box

    hey. need some help please. ive managed to get info from a
    mysql database into flash in a combo box. i have a text field and i
    want it to load in the corresponding data when a new title is
    selected in the combo box.
    any body help please?
    Matt

    You use the
    ComboBox.change
    event to respond to the choice. There is a good example at the
    link in the last sentence.
    As far as what you do in the change handler depends on your
    data:
    1. You can download all that data when you download the items
    for the combo box. You can store the values related to the item in
    the combobox in the data parameter. See
    ComboBox.additem.
    For example: comboBoxInstance.addItem({label:label[, data:data]}).
    Then using
    ComboBox.selectedItem
    you can get the data and populate other items in the change event
    handler.
    2. You only have key values stored as data in the combobox
    item. Then in the change handler you go to the server and fetch the
    data selected and then populate the other objects.
    The first way is preferable if the amount of data is
    reasonable because it requires downloading all the needed data for
    all the items all at one time. The second way is necessary if the
    data is excessive to be downloaded all at once.

  • Use Combo Boxes and Datepart "m" and "y" to filter forms and reports

    I am trying to build a Form to filter through Sales Order Records going back up to four years to find purchasing patterns of  customers and to find more potential sales.  I am using a simple main form, with 2 subforms joined on the Sales Representative
    [accntrep], one which show current orders for a given month and the other orders from past months and years.  I've got 3 combo boxes, 1 to select sales representative, 1 to select a month using date part and 1 to select a month.  This would be very
    flexible in easily searching any month in any year of the recordset.  I know I will be using something like "DatePart("m",[Date])=2 And Year([Date])=Year(Date())-4" (Feb 2011) to filter my records, but I am having troubling writing
    the procedure just right.  I am using 2-column combo boxes 1 column for text i.e (April, May, June etc.) and a second for the Date Part Expression.  I think I need to concatenate the values into the filter, but I cannot come up with exactly how to
    get this done.  Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    js

    If there is any doubt in your mind then I  will suggest a sanity debug trick; temporarily add 2 textboxes
    in T1 put its control source: =ComboBoxNameMonth
    in T2 put its control source: =ComboBoxNameYear
    don't put what I typed - put in their actual control names for those 2 comboboxes
    this way you can see what is actually the value of those combo boxes... depending on what they are bound to - those values may not be what you are expecting them to be.....obviously alter the properties of the comboboxes until they have the values they should
    Am a little unclear on filtering your records in regard to how the data is not structured whether for example: Nov 2015 is in 2 separate fields or a single field like 11/2015 or what - not sure it is a true date field or possibly a text field...so
    the next part of this depends on the data structure.

    hi,
    as i mentioned, you would require to use a custom renderer for this, for this
    //Class subclass the JFrame and has a JList in it
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.util.Vector;
    public class ListRendererTest extends JFrame
         private JList lstMenu;
         private DefaultListModel defaultListModel;
         private JScrollPane scrollPane;
         private Vector listVector;
         public ListRendererTest()
              init();
              addComponents();
              showFrame();
         public void init()
              lstMenu = new JList();
              defaultListModel= new DefaultListModel();
              lstMenu.setModel(defaultListModel);
              scrollPane      = new JScrollPane(lstMenu);
              listVector = new Vector();
              MyListData m1 = new MyListData();
              m1.setName("Rakesh");
              m1.setOnline(false);
              listVector.addElement(m1);
              m1 = new MyListData();   //represents each User instance
              m1.setName("Makesh");
              m1.setOnline(true);
              listVector.addElement(m1);
              for (int i=0;i < listVector.size(); i++)
                   defaultListModel.addElement(((MyListData)listVector.elementAt(i)));
              lstMenu.setCellRenderer(new MyListRenderer());  //set custom renderer
         public void addComponents()
              getContentPane().add(scrollPane,BorderLayout.CENTER);
         public void showFrame()
              setTitle("List renderer test");
              setSize(300,300);
              setLocation(200,200);
              setVisible(true);
         public static void main(String args[])
              new ListRendererTest();
    }The above class is the Container which houses the JList in it, it uses two other classes, MyListData which is used to represent each user instance ( username, and information about whether he is online) and MyListRenderer (custom renderer).
    // Represents each user instance //
    public class MyListData
         private String name;
         private boolean online;
         public void setName(String name)
              this.name = name;
         public String getName()
              return name;
         public void setOnline(boolean online)
              this.online = online;
         public boolean isOnline()
              return online;
    //custom list renderer
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class MyListRenderer extends DefaultListCellRenderer
         private MyListData myListData;
         public Component getListCellRendererComponent(JList list, Object value, int index,  boolean isSelected, boolean cellHasFocus)
               myListData = (MyListData)value;
               setText(myListData.getName());
               setBackground(myListData.isOnline() ? Color.red: Color.white);  //check if online, if so show in different color
               setForeground(isSelected ? Color.blue : Color.black);
               return this;
    }hope that helps.

  • Show text box from one combo box selection

    Total newb here and need help.  I tried searching for a javascript to copy/paste, but without any luck.  I am using Acrobat Pro 9.2.0.  If you could help me out with the javascript or with directions on how to make the following be accomplished, I would be greatly appreciative.
    I am creating a fillable PDF and currently have a combo box that is labeled "Internship Satisfied By" with the options of "TCoB PDP", "MRKTNG 4185", and "Other College".  I would like a hidden text box (where the end user can fill in to explain) to become visible only when the end user selects the "Other College" option, but stay hidden for the other selections.  The hidden text box is labeled "Internship Explained".
    Thanks in advance! Jarrod

    Use this code as the combo box's validation script:
    if (event.value == "Other College") {
    getField("Internship Explained").display = display.visible;
    } else {
    getField("Internship Explained").display = display.hidden;

  • How do I populate the choices in a Combo Box in a PDF Form from an Excel spreadsheet or text file?

    Pleasel let me know if there is a way to copy and paste choices for a Combo Box from an Excel spreadsheet or text file.  I have over 250 values I'd like to add and don't trust my typing!
    Thanks for the help!
    Ken K. - 2191

    Yes, using the field.getItemAt method: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.745.html
    E.g.:
    var aItems = [];
    var f = getField("combo1");
    for (var i = 0; i < f.numItems; i++) {
        aItems[i] = f.getItemAt(i);
    If there are export values you need to decide how to use the optional bExportValue parameter.

    From the Q&A here, most of them uses the function similar to this "=[Combo0].[Column](1)" to show the data in the text box, but this would require the combo box to list a whole bunch of details if i were to add in more currency values to the
    table. Is it possible to not show this information in the combo box, but still populate data in the textboxes base on a selection on only the "month" and "year" in the combo box.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to show only the month/year in the combo box, we can choose the date, and it will display the value of USD/SGD/BAHT based on the month/year.
    If it is, I recommend you try the steps:
    Create a form based on your data source table>Add the combo box>combo box wizard>Find a record on my form based on the value I selected my combo box>Add mouth and year to selected fields

  • How to Add/Concatenate to a text field, values selected in a combo box

    I have a combo box form field that allows the user to select a value from a list and click on an Add button. The Add button should add/concatenate the vaue selected to a text field in order to create a list of values selected. I'm not sure how to do this using Javascript in Acrobat? I know I need to add the javascript to the Add button's Mouse Up action. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Thanks so much - it works!

    Let's say the text field's name is "Text1", and the combo is called "Combo1". You can then use this code as the MouseUp script of the Add button:
    var f1 = this.getField("Text1");
    var f2 = this.getField("Combo1");
    if (f1.value=="") f1.value = f2.value;
    else f1.value = f1.value + ", " + f2.value;

    Hi Dylan2412,
    According to your description, you'd like to pass the ComboBox.Text to the second form's TextBox.
    In Form1:
    private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    Form2 f2 = new Form2(this.comboBox1.Text); //pass the comboBox1.Text
    f2.Show();
    In Form2:
    public Form2(string s) //get the string;
    InitializeComponent();
    this.textBox1.Text = s;
    You could get the comBoBox refer to this sample above.
    If you have any other concern regarding this issue, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,
    Youjun Tang

  • I need a combo box with 4 values to choose from which will populate a text box on the form with text related to each combo box selection

    For example:
    Combo box choices:
    apple
    tomato
    squash
    Pumpkin
    The text box depending on the selection above would state the color:
    Green        (if Apple was chosen from the combo box
    Red           (if Tomato was chosen from the combo box
    Yellow       (if Squash was chosen from the combo box
    Orange      (if Pumpkin was chosen from the combo box
    I am very new at this and have spent hours looking for an answer.  Thank to anyone in advance who can help!

    Place each value as the export value of the options in the combo-box and then use this code as the text field's custom calculation script:
    event.value = this.getField("ComboBox Name").value;
